The Least Criticized Star

As we know almost every great player gets critisizes no matter how good they are or by what they do on and off the court. Even Michael Jordan in the late 80's was critisized that he shoots too much and can't lead a team (even though he proved them wrong). Kobe Bryant was also critisized about how many shots he takes and he should pass more and his rape trial didn't help either. Vince Carter we don't even want to get into the problems he has and same with T-Mac, Shaq, and now Yao a little.

Are there any players in your mind that stick out that receivede little or no criticism?

Some I can think of are Pippen, Bird, and Lebron James is off to a good start cause everyone loves the way he has started his NBA career.

Great topic, I'd have to go with Tim Duncan. Sure there are fans out there that think he's boring and don't appreciate his understated demeanor but generally speaking there ain't too much you can say bad about Duncan.

was thinking the same thing. people say he's boring but that's the most you'll hear. he has a good record off-court and he plays well on-court

Nah, I have to disagree with KG.

- criticized for not making it out of the first round for seven years straight. Some said he wasn't stepping up when it counted most.

- the fight with Wally Szerbs when he chased his around the practice facility with a dumbbell.

- a few months back when he punched Rick Rickert in the face during practice. A lot of people called him a punk for that one.

- and of course the infamous statement during last year's playoffs: "We're going to war, I'm loading the pump..got an uzi...couple of silencers in the joint..." That REALLY made some noise right there. Kevin's a great guy but he's definitely faced some criticism both warranted and unwarranted IMHO.

Yea I was actually going to say except for the whole punching the rookie thing, but his game isn't criticized much, Duncan you could say doesn't make free throws, but who really cares?

i'm not gonna state the obvious (tim duncan) but i'm going to go with manu ginobili.. rarely have i seen him get criticized (by the announcers that is) .. popovich gets on his ass all the time though for little mistakes, but who doesnt make mistakes? :wink:

Good choice, and he sort of flies under the radar doesn't he? I really respect his game.....

yup he's a pretty good defender (minus the d.fish 0.4 incident :lol:

) and he can score when he wants to.. but what he gets from greg popovich is NOTHING compared to tony parker :lol:

I'm going with Peja.. he never gets criticised for anything. Its usually "all webbers fault". he gets the credit of a superstar, but escapes scrutiny all the time.

i'm gonna add brent barry (seattle days) for never getting criticized.. he was always praised for being the consummate teammate and an all around player.. i haven't really seen him play in san antonio this year so i can't say

but prior to his championship-winning days, he was criticized for being a scoring champion but not an NBA champ (*cough* t-mac *cough*).. he was also criticized for not having a mid range game, and not knowing how to play defense properly.. well we all know how that turned out

i'm pretty sure manu ginobili is a star, not to the level of the tim duncans and kevin garnetts, but he's a star nonetheless. i'm pretty sure the opposing team's coaches don't forget about him when planning out their defensive strategy against san antonio.

What about "chocking in the playoffs"? Happens every year. Plus I'm sure he got heaps for not playing in the Olympics, only that wasn't American media. And Webber got plenty last season and Peja escaped because the Kings fell apart when Webber came back while people were talking about Peja as someone who could steal a couple of MVP votes.

Well, as far as personality goes, no. But in terms of basketball there's been plenty of criticism about being being _irk instead of Dirk on the defensive end and some have called him soft.....
