Lebron: Already better than Kobe?

I know that it's early on in the season but this kid really impresses me...

Lebron and Kobe are both scoring roughly the same but Lebron shoots with a much better percentage... He's rebounding and passing better and his team actually has a better record(4-3) compared with the Lakers' (4-4). He's also blocking and stealing more.

Kobe will probably start stepping up and perform better but I believe Lebron will be a much better player than Kobe ever was in the next 2 years.

LeBron's already a better leader, and his supporting cast isn't close to Kobe's.

Wed Nov 17, 2004 1:07 pm

lol i was speaking to one of my friends who is a kobe lover..
he told me to wait till LeBron hit's the sophmore year slump

Wed Nov 17, 2004 2:14 pm

Talk about hype. To say that lebron is a better player becuase of 8 games this season is a crock. Is Kirelinko a better player than Tim Duncan? Is Ray Allen better than T-Mac?

Wed Nov 17, 2004 2:28 pm

Would yes be the right answer?

Wed Nov 17, 2004 2:57 pm

No it wouldnt riot.

Oooh so what Lebron has had a great week or two, quit jumping to conclusions. Wasnt it just last week the Cavs were 1-3 and people were doubting Lebron?

Wed Nov 17, 2004 2:59 pm

No, it wasn't. No one expects big things from the Cavs yet, and LeBron was still leading the league in scoring.

Wed Nov 17, 2004 3:37 pm

What Lebron has shown me is that he is learning how to play the game right within the team plan. His shot selection has been great this year and it's showing in his FG%.

Wed Nov 17, 2004 3:57 pm

im convinced that he'll be better than kobe
when kobe was 19 he didn't have the same maturity like lebron does now.. i think lebron is a better leader and he makes smart decisions.

just use the game against the suns for example when they were down three with 2 seconds to go, he got doubled but he had the presence of mind to dump it out to ilgauskas to nail a 3, instead of forcing up a shot. i remember a couple years back when the lakers played golden state (where both kobe and antawn jamison erupted for 51), numerous times when his team was down he would attempt to force acrobatic layups only to get stripped several times by bob sura.

in the end though, i think what it boils down to is trust.. during crunch time, lebron still has faith in his teammates while kobe thinks he can do everything himself. not hating on kobe, but this is how i see things

Well Lebron has 2 good PG's, a good center, and Gooden just needs more consistency but is doing good, not too bad a suppoting cast.

Kobe has Odom and Caron Butler, but saying his supporting cast isn't close is laughable.

Kirilenko isn't even playing better than TD right now, and Ray Allen is tearing it up, he likely have a better season statistically, but Tmac is in a different situation. LJ and KB are in the same boat.

Kobe isn't doing too good right now, he's averagin 0.75 steals per game, his assists are down, his shot isn't falling, but his rebounding is good though, and he's getting to the line.

If Lebron keeps it up he'll make himself very comparable to Kobe, and even arguably better, and if he continues to improve, but next year he'll be the best swingman, not best guard because Wade could have something to say too. If Lebron keeps these numbers up, Kobe would have to exceed his career highs in everything but points and assists, just to keep up.

Also Wade is also tearing it up, but not playing as many minutes as LJ, but in terms of efficiency per 48 minutes Wade is killing, and another name slipping through the cracks kinda is Manu Ginobili.

He's .8 eff points less than KG in efficiency per 48 mins, and is averaging 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.00 steals, 0.50 blocks, 3.33 turnovers, 54.2% FG, 50% 3PT in 30.0 minutes, obviously the numbers will slip a little because his FG% is unusually high, but you never know. He's killing right now though.

Wed Nov 17, 2004 7:29 pm

Manu's number will fall once Spurs start playing teams that have good defensive players to put on him

Go LB!

Wed Nov 17, 2004 9:55 pm

LeBron is playing better then Kobe at the moment, but he is NOT a better player. He might be in the future but not right now. Ronald Murray was also better then alot of good point guards early on during the 2003/2004 season, but he didnt finish the season as well as he started it. Its to early to say hes better.

As Kevin said, LeBron's been playing this well since the beginning of the season. People doubted the Cavs, no one doubted him.

Lebron's amazing, u cant really compared him and Kobe cause their different players. Kobe's just the flash and dash type of player while Lebron is just that "MIRACLE MAN" type of player.

Lebron will have big stats, hes talent is so much that he can keep it up unlike if it were Carmelo Anthony who was averaging those numbers. Kobe is scoring so much cause hes jacking up shots cause nobody else can play consitantly on his team, Odom is playing like his Clippers days again n Butler is gonna be a bust.

Lebron will have 25-8-7 season avergaes and kobe will have 27-7-7 ...
oh yeah n the other thing is, Lebron doesnt go around the team saying he wants this player out and his coach out....thats what Kobe's main weakness is, hes become just another greedy player who wants his own team and have big numbers and of course try to be called "GREAT" by leading a underdog/pretty screwed up team.

If Lebron had Shaq, oh man the Cavaliers would be unstoppable by now or at least by next season....

yeah u cant judge by 8 games, but Lebron is miles and miles away ahead of KB8.....talent wise, personality wise, b-ball IQ wise n well prolly Lebron's the better father too

Thu Nov 18, 2004 5:15 am

For a fact,he's a better leader. But give him another year or 2 and he could be the best player overall.

Thu Nov 18, 2004 5:39 am

How is that Kobes weakness? Did Kobe tell the Lakers managment that he wants this and that out? No he didnt

i think manu's playing out of his mind! i think his numbers will still occasionally be out of this world since tony parker is very very very inconsistent.

besides, who else is going to pick up the slack when TP's off and duncan's being double-teamed?

Did you read Phil Jackson's book?

As for the topic...Lebron is obviously better than any 19-year-old that's ever played. I think the Lakers would have a better record right now with Lebron and the Cavs would have a worse record with Kobe. Lebron also knows the game better than Kobe. But...Kobe's a better shooter, a better post player and a better defender.

So they have different strengths...but is Lebron better overall? Don't know. I do know that if I was the Cavs I wouldn't take any trade offers from the Lakers.

No...did you?

I did read articles with quotes from people inside the Lakers managment and even from Shaq which said that it wasnt Kobe that told the Lakers to get rid of them.

Thu Nov 18, 2004 10:25 am

Yes. Kobe basically forced Phil and Shaq out.

It looks like Dunleavy said Lebron was overrated and Newble kicked him the chin

Thu Nov 18, 2004 12:49 pm

^^^wow, looks like LB now has oncourt goons to kick ass, err i mean chin, if they diss him

Flip wasn't playing point, he was playing SG, the thing is that Lebron doesn't have a Ray Allen to come in and take his starting spot, and also isn't a bad defender like Flip was which was what really cut his minutes down.

oh yeah and Lebron's Kid doesnt have to say, "My Dad Had Sex With A Average Girl, Though He Could Even Have Any Other Hot Big Titted Bitch In Hollywood, Oh Yeah and I forgot my Mom, look at her if I werent her son Id screw her."

Kobe forced Shaq and Phil out......two people who are far more greater than he is and maybe ever will be, hes just jacking up shots now just like Iverson was doin last season and the seasons before...hes 39% from the field, having career lows in assists n well the Lakers are prolly the worst Lakers team of all time.

Lebron has just Ilgauskas as a regular contributor, Gooden one day plays like hes Top 5 PF, the next he plays like a guy that belongs in the USBL.....and who else??...Mcinnis and Snow?
