It’s exactly what bikerjimuk says, it’s something 2K has never fixed. I explained to BuckCity how to solve that a few months ago, and he made a thread explaining how to fix it: viewtopic.php?f=291&t=116327
Anyway, with the new roster editor you can easily make the player display the portrait (action photo), since by default players have two values: one that refers to the team they belong to, and another to the team they are assigned to. As soon as a player is traded to another team like in your case, Butler compared to the day-one roster — he still keeps the Miami Heat value, and since there’s no match with the Golden State Warriors, the portrait stops showing.
With the roster editor, you have the option to “Match Portrait Team” with “Current Team” through the three-lines icon in the lower-right area. I uploaded a tutorial to my YT channel.
