Question for modders regarding cheat engine or another tool and cyberfaces

Thu Nov 02, 2023 10:36 am

Would it be possible to use cheat engine or another tool to assign cyberface ID's to created players? Like right now i know i can replace one of the Kobe faces with a Charles Barkley mod by changing Charles' ID in the mod folder but I don't want to replace anyone. I'm not really familiar with cheat engine, but was thinking of a workaround since we don't have past tools.

You can´t. Even if you managed to assign an ID to a player with a generic face via ce, it wouldn't work. The 'hook' plugin is essential for adding new IDs because without it, the default mods folder only works with existing files.

That sucks. So pretty much i would have to stick with re-numbering/replacing current faces. Do the generic players used to fill out classic teams have a cf number? If so, what are they please?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

So are we just accepting that we play 2k23 forever ad infinitum as no one else is capable or producing the necessary modding resources? Does anyone know of anyone else trying or projects we can support/donate to?

Assigning a CFID to a created player is possible, there is no tool that is openly available. I don't have any other info on the subject.

No, those players have the face ID 1.

Is this tool just hidden behind a pay wall?

I'm looking to create some retro rosters so would be willing to donate/pay if something was available in some capactity?

No, Looyh is not working on a roster editor for 2K24.

Just stick to 2K23 if you're interested in retro or other projects that require a ton of customization beyond the base game. 2K24 is simply not going to have the same retro resources and flexibility as 2K23.

Most of the retro resources for 23 work just fine in 24. Cyberfaces, shoes, jerseys, courts, etc. The issue is people just want a Roster Editor for their own projects and to access the hidden retro content, players and teams from the Mamba Moments. There are players in that mode that are not available on 23. So people can be a little more accurate with their roster projects. Yea they could stick with 23, but as many of us have pointed out including Shuajota, the gameplay is much better, smoother and cleaner than on 23. Not to mention the camera angles are way better this year too. That's why people keep asking for a roster editor. They don't want to stay on 23. And I'm sure Looyh could easily and fairly quickly pump out a hook and editor like he does every year. His explorer was available immediately upon game launch, which tells me he's got crazy skills. People are willing to pay/donate for that program including myself.

My statement was honestly more of a warning than anything, in that I personally am going to be putting out a bunch of retro stuff for 2K23, a pretty significant portion of which will not be directly compatible with 2K24. It would need to be ported, and it won't be, as looyh and I are probably the only two people capable of doing so, and it'd be so much work that I'm certain neither of us will. Even if looyh eventually releases for 2K24 every tool that is useful for retro on 2K23, the newer game is always unfortunately going to be a tier below in terms of retro resources and functionality.

Fair point. But how about letting someone else who may have coding skills take a shot at releasing his hook and editor? I know a lot of modders who no longer update their tools turn them over to other modders to continue said work.

Agreed. Why not allow other modders atleast a tutorial on continuing a hook/roster editor? It's sad of the monopoly I'm witnessing. The narrative well hopefully change, and modders will collaborate more, especially on a tool that reinvents the game. What is 2K24 with no custom rosters, drafts, retros, etc.

Although no modder has any obligation to share or provide tutorials on their work or code.
I agree that it would definitely be better for the community overall if the knowledge to create those resources was more open. We have so many cyberface and other visual enhancement mods because of people sharing their knowledge jaosming and TGsoGood just to name a few

its wild to me there appears to be only one dude on this planet who knows how to make the roster editor for this game

even in the past, there were only a handful of people even willing to try and help find new values or put all the knowledge into 1 tool.

The bigger issue with 2K24 is the Denuvo/ DRM aspect makes it hard for people with and without knowledge of how to change game values or make tools. Even if we get some success, the game will crash and/ or new patches render the progress useless.

Another issue is 2K24 "supports" mods officially/." but 2K didn't give us an official way to extract or edit the game files.
They didn't announce there would be a mod folder. They didn't even release any official documentation on how the mods folder is supposed to be used.
Sure we figured it out through our own previous knowledge but how can you officially provide a community feature that you don't explain to the community through official channels.
It also brings to mind ingame features like scenarios on PC. The feature was added on PC but never worked properly.

This I totally agree with. You gave us official mod support, but no tools to create said mods. I've been saying that since I found out it had official support. I was thinking about asking why we don't have tools or if they can provide us with any tools, but have no clue how or where to ask.
