Kirilenko is a freak

Postby Matt on Sun Nov 07, 2004 3:25 pm

3 games.....21 blocks....that's 7bpg, and he won't maintain that average but damn this guy can block

i hope he wins DPOY cos IMO he's the best defender in the L....last season he was playing crazy D against Garnett, Duncan, KMart, R Wallace, J Oneal, Gasol, Nowitzki etc and on most nights he gave up significant weight

imagine him playing alongside Ben Wallace....it'd be a swat-a-thon

Ya, Kirilenko may be arguably the best all-around player in the league. He is an amazing defender, maybe the best in the league. He just needs a consistent shot and he's got it all.

agreed.. kirilenko is like a mix of ben wallace/ron artest/bruce bowen.. the guy's simply a freak of nature.. imagine what would happen if he bulked up somewhat, that'd be nuts

ak47 doesnt need to bulk up that much, especially if he's playing SF. his plastic man like build gives him an advantage. those block totals are pretty sick

He's on my fantasy team thank god. I've won blocks every day he plays with him, rasheed, emeka, dwight, and jermaine.

He is a stellar player. I got a chance to watch the first game and he was always at the ball. And there was another block he made but didn't get credit for too.

"We have a tendency to let people go where they want to on defense because we want to block shots," said coach Jerry Sloan, who complained about Kirilenko's unconventional habit of allowing his opponet to get past him, then poke the shot away from behind.
Still, Sloan appreciates Kirilenko's overall game, and the fact that he doesn't have to score to affect a game. The Russian forward made only three of 13 shots against the Nuggets, for example, but grabbed five offensive rebounds, made three steals and handed out three assists.
"That's who he is," Sloan said. "People think Andrei is going to get you 25 points a night, [but] that's not his game. Probably never will be. It's nice when he gets 20, 25 points, but that's not who he is. And that's where he gets in trouble, when he tries to be somebody he's not."

Kirilenko is mean, trying to embarass all the other players.

This guy is was all over the court today against Denver. Utah is an amazing, well-coached team.

But man, Kirilenko gets a block against Melo that goes straight to Boykins, and then intercepts the pass thrown to Camby...His game is all about energy, I could see Utah getting deep into the playoffs.

With that game, he's "only" averaging 6.5 blocks per game. If he keeps up this kind of pace all year he'll have a good shot at breaking the record for blocks per game in the regular season, coincidentally set by a former Jazz player (7'4" centre Mark Eaton, 5.6 bpg back in 1985).

maybe we should tweak the nba sliders just like NBA Live 05 too much blocking.

hey maybe AK47 play live 05 and was inspired to see more blocks.

Utah can be happy for having him locked up with a longterm extension, right before the season started.

Don't worry Matt, we can stay on Kirilenko-watch for the rest of the season... I'm sure he'll get a whole heap of blocks in the future
