NBA 2K23 Michael Jordan Edition Announced; Jordan Challenge Returning!

Announced by 2K, with IGN providing some additional details. From my front page bulletin:

On the heels of the apparent leak revealing that Devin Booker will be the NBA 2K23 cover player, we have official confirmation...of the face of this year's special edition! 2K has announced the NBA 2K23 Michael Jordan Edition, featuring His Airness on the cover.

Additionally, it's been revealed that NBA 2K23 will feature a revamped version of The Jordan Challenge. All of the original challenges will be included, albeit built from the ground up. Five additional games have been added, and the mode will also cover his accomplishments with Team USA.

There will also be a Championship Edition of NBA 2K23, featuring a signed Michael Jordan jersey on its cover. According to IGN, the Championship Edition will feature a year's subscription to NBA League Pass. No additional details on the price or pre-order bonuses are available as yet, but that information should be coming soon. Both editions will be available to pre-order from July 7th.

2K has also revealed screenshots of 80s MJ and 90s MJ in NBA 2K23, along with a teaser trailer that replicates his famous free throw line dunk from the 1988 Dunk Contest. According to a caption in the trailer, it features gameplay from the Next Gen version of NBA 2K23.

I think we will find out on July 7th what version PC gets when they open up the preorders.

As always, expect the least so you don't get disappointed.

No, this is literally the first bit of news we have about NBA 2K23.

With that being said, I'm inclined to agree with jmmontoro's advice. NBA 2K22 didn't follow the precedent set by NBA 2K15 as far as making the Next Gen jump at the earliest possible iteration, so I'm keeping my expectations low until we hear otherwise.

if that's the case then i think its time for me to not buy the PC version until the current gen is ported i don't want an nba 2k games on PC with the roster update it's a waste of money.

well that sucks; then current gen mods (2k22, 2k21) better works on 2k23 then. Will wait for cheap sale.

Very excited to hear that the Jordan Challenge is returning, it was by far one of the best additions 2K ever made imo. I caught a few things within the teaser video shared on Twitter:

- The 1988 All-Star Game in Chicago is included with a completely new stadium layout, and 2K has clearly put as much love within copyright limits as they could
- Footage was shown featuring the Bulls facing against the Hawks and Lakers in the late '90s. This could indicate Game 5 of the 1997 Eastern Conference Semifinals where Jordan dunks on Dikembe Mutombo, and the December 17, 1997 game against the LA Lakers where Kobe Bryant scores 33 points without Shaquille O'Neal present on the team will be included as new challenges
- Jordan's cyberfaces have been updated. This is big, as he always looked a bit strange once the PS4/XBO versions of 2K14 launched.

Unfortunately, I'm also disappointed that the PC version will not be upgraded to the next-gen version. It was good news at the time when 2K15 would make the graphics jump for PC players, as they could play the same version as everybody else. While I completely understand that having a version of 2K23 may be better than having no version at all (NBA LIVE 09 and later being an example on EA's part), it's still unfortunate nonetheless. Here's to hoping that the mods from 2K21/22 will be mostly compatible. I'm not a big fan of the gameplay changes 2K has been implementing with their motion system, badges, etc., but the inclusion of the Jordan Challenge might actually get me to buy another 2K game again.

I've wondered that as well. The Dream Team has historically been something that Charles Barkley makes an exception for as far as his stance on being included in games. Or perhaps 2K has finally agreed to make the donation that Chuck has been admirably pushing them to. It's a possibility, at least.

Apparently a college challenge will also be included. If so, it probably means North Carolina will be a school that you can play for in MyCAREER as well. All subject to confirmation of course, but again, a possibility.

Hopefully it will be an improvement, and there are definitely things that have my attention. But yeah, he's going to say that every year, and the game hasn't always lived up to the hype.

More details coming in August according to the official NBA 2K Twitter, so once again, it'll be a compressed preview season that really gets underway a month after pre-orders are open.

Madness is to repeat the same mistake over and over again and think the result will be different.
I dont expect anything else than a 2k18.5 - or to be fair a 2k21.3- version for PC.

NBA 2K23 with Jordan Challenge and the Euroleague/Eurocup patch: it will be my last nba 2KXX for a long time.
