T-mac and KG

Postby Fresh8 on Tue Oct 26, 2004 6:26 pm

Who is better... and would you classify KG as a three?

I know that KG plays more PF for the T-wolves but he ahs the versitility to play 3 permanently... same goes for T-mac- he will prob play 2 this year but I see him as a SF...

So- if both are SF's who is the better individual player?

KG, they've pretty much put everyone on him.. wallace, o'neal, duncan, whoever.. but it doesn't matter, he still puts up those crazy stats on the board.. he'll find ways to get those 20-13-5 numbers

t-mac is good too, but he can be harassed into a terrible shooting night.. defense is not as good as he's capable of playing.

KG is underreated defensively, he never gets a case for DPOY when in reality, he should be considered and one of the top 5.

The following players got votes last season:

Ron Artest, Indiana
Ben Wallace, Detroit
Theo Ratliff, Portland
Bruce Bowen, San Antonio
Andrei Kirilenko, Utah

This would be my list:

Ron Artest, Indiana
Ben Wallace, Detroit
Kevin Garnett, Minnesota
Tim Duncan, San Antonio
Bruce Bowen, San Antonio (No matter how dirty he plays)

How can you not have Kirilenko on there? But ya, Ratliff is only on there because he is such a great blocker.

I think you mean a 4 and a 5...

When I think of good defense, I think of annoying person on defense. Andrei is good, but he's nowhere as annoying as Bowen is.

Anyone can be annoying on defense, the question is can they actually shut down their man. I'm not saying Bowen is bad, Bowen certainly deserves a spot. But Duncan?

Seeing as we are on the topic of KG Kirilenko shut down KG in two games the T'wolves played the Jazz, I mean literally shut down. Duncan got outscored and outrebounded by Garnett in all the games the T'Wolves played the Spurs. I know Duncan is a good defender but Kirilenko should be after Bown for the 4th spot.

1) Artest
2) Wallace
3) Bowen
4) Kirilenko
5) Garnett

Are you kidding?

10 points, 6 rebounds but that is the game where KG got ejected in the 2nd quarter. That couldn't be the game you're talking about.

23, 14 and 7 assists? I don't think that is shutting down.

17 and 12 if you call that shutting down ok.

21 and 17...once again I fail to see you're reasoning to "shut down".

in other words a game changer. definitely DOPY material imo. if you watched portland's games, especially down the stretch, you'd see how he pretty much shut down any shots coming in the paint. [/quote]

If you compare Garnett's stats against Utah to his stats against San Antonio you will obviously see the comparison to when Duncan is guarding him and to when Kirilenko is guarding him. Kirilenko no doubt in my mind is a better defender than Duncan.

I never said he was a bad defender but I think in order to win Defensive Player of the Year you have to shut people down. Ratliff doesn't do that, he blocks players coming in for lay-ups, dunks etc. But he is not a good one-on-one defender.

Duncan never guards KG and KG never guards Duncan. They don't want them getting into foul trouble. KG guards Rasho and Duncan guards Olowokandi.

So those stats aren't correct. They really only guard eachother near the end of the game.
