apparently Sam Cassell is upset over his contract and wants a contract extension. Sam didn't show up for media day today. The team says "same missed a flight" but his agent says "personal reasons involving his contrat situation".
Sam might hold out. Timberwolves don't need this.

Indications are he will report today.

You really can't blame him, he has to be the most underpaid player in the league right now:
Sam Cassell
2004-2005 Salary: $5,650,000
2005-2006 Salary: $6,100,000
After watching people like Brian Cardinal, Adonal Foyle and Derek Fisher hit the jackpot while you busted your butt, had your first All-Star season, lead the T-Wolves to their best season yet, heck I'd hold out too.

What "long term" plan, as he described it, does he really think he has as a prime member of the T-Wolves...? Realistically, he's gonna go on a major decline in a season or 2, so it wouldn't be wise for the Wolves to give him any contract extension unless it was for 1 season, 2 tops.
I feel for Sam, but it's too late in his career to be demanding top dollars.
I wish most of the nba players would realize that
even the young ones wit no talent

Sam isn't the player that will decrease that much because much of his game is that mid range jumper and his craftyness.
He has 4-5 good years left in him so I expect to see a 2-3 year extension in the works. Same with Sprewell.

If we want to play uptempo we throw Hudson out there but in the playoffs the game seems to favor more into half-court sets which plays right into Sam's favor.

One thing that upsets me in such situations - he signed that deal, so he better live with it. He knew exactly that he couldn't just get a payrise when he signed that deal a few years ago. He also knew how old he would be when that deal runs out and that it would be unlikely that he'll get another big deal at that age.
And 6mil a year isn't exactly peanuts. Sure, others earn more, even not so deserving players, but that's the nature of the business.

thats what always bugs me about holdouts. the player signed the deal, he didnt have to, no one made him. now here he is crying about not getting an extension. imo if the owner honors his part of the deal by paying you then you should honor your half of the deal and just play ball.

Wolves are one of the elite teams in the league and who knows what the NBA will look like 6 months down the road. Timberwolves could be healthy playing an injuried Pistons team in the finals or Spurs team. Injuries, chemistry and luck all play a role into winning a title.
Pistons beat Bucks.
Pistons beat Nets without Kidd.
Pistons beat Pacers without Tinsley or JO.
Pistons beat Lakers wiithout Malone.
I'm not trying to start anything but luck has something to do with winning the title.
Who knows who will have the luck with them in april and june?
As of now, I see it as 3 contenders with about 5-6 other teams trying to prove themselves as contenders.
Wolves, Spurs and Pistons are contenders.
Heat, Kings, Lakers, Pacers, Rockets, Nuggets, ect all have to prove something this season.
