The Kings are retiring Shane Heal's jersey number:

No more 23
Thursday, October 7, 2004 - 01:25 PM
NBL, Sydney Morning Herald

The Sydney Kings have announced that they will retire the number of former captain Shane Heal at the team's opening home game against Melbourne on Wednesday 13 October.

Heal's number 23 singlet will be retired by the club in the ultimate honour for the former Kings firebrand, who led the team to their first-ever championship.

A custom-made, banner-sized jersey will be raised to the rafters of the Sydney Entertainment Centre, where it will sit permanently next to the Kings' pair of championship banners.

Following the ceremony, no other Kings player will ever be allowed to wear Heal's number 23.

"The last game I played for the Kings we won the first-ever championship, which for me was the perfect way to finish my career with the club," Heal told the Sydney Morning Herald's Michael Cowley. "Now, to think that my singlet's not going to be worn again, it's a huge compliment."

The ceremony will be a fitting end to Heal's stellar career and the sharp-shooting guard says he is unlikely to ever feel the urge to return to the Philips Championship.

"I find it hard to categorically say I'll never, ever play again, but my feeling is right now that I doubt very much that I'll ever play again," he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"To be honest, I'm not missing the training and I don't think that I will play again. It's good to be finally having a break, spending time with the family, pursuing some business interests, and just taking a rest."

"I'm sure in 12 months' time I'm going to want to have a lot more to do with basketball, whether at a junior level or coaching or media or whatever, but right now I'm just enjoying watching it [on TV] and not doing a lot more with it."

At the same game, fans will also see the official raising of the Kings' second championship banner prior to tip-off.

Also, Detlef Shrempf and Luc Longley are going to be guests at the next Tigers game, along with the Laker Girls. Would make a nice change from big nosed Greek girls and stuff I suppose.

I knew they'd be decent this season, they've recruited way too well to be mediocre - horrible again.

Well... Bullets update: They are at 1-4...

What do u think Dragon?

And the Hawks are 4-0 with Wildcats, razorbacks, 36ers and Kings all doing well...

I guess Brisbane are still confident they can play well.. i hope they do- they play sydney next... wait it looks like they won 111-105!

2-5 is terrible for the Bullets and to lose again by over 20 :?

My 1st's are going great if we win on Saturday we get outright GPS premiership and my 2nds are doing well too (I coach 2 teams) won 4 drew 1 lost 2.

dont u guys have overtime to play???

Anyways- our team had a 'miracle' season, after losing to the best team in the comp, we thought we would come second. But the best team lost their best player over the holidays and lost two straight... and we are back in first. One more game and we win the premiership!

We play away at St Edmonds who beat our A's last year by 20 in the last game of the season... We played them in an exhibition type game and only won by 3... we didnt have full teams for that game. Hopefully they have the same team as the other day- but we're all up for a challange.

The team tying first is playing the worst team in the comp- we beat that team by 50...

basically- it's do or die. If we win, we'll tie for first, if we lose we come second! lol

Good luck to ur firsts- hope u beat bgs... then i can rag my friends...
