Gary Trent to The Bulls

The Bulls have reached an agreement with free agent power forward Gary Trent. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Trent, who spent the past three seasons with the Timberwolves, is expected to sign a non-guaranteed deal and join Chicago for a physical exam on Friday.

Trent, 30, has averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds over a nine-year career that has also featured stops with the Trailblazers, Raptors and Mavs. He joins a somewhat crowded Bulls frontcourt that already includes Antonio Davis, Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler and Othella Harrington, but Trent gives Chicago added flexibility in case of injury or trade.

An effective low post scorer with a soft touch, Trent owns a career shooting percentage of 50.1 percent. He also brings added toughness and a veteran presence to a young Bulls roster. "Gary wanted to be in Chicago," said his agent, Andy Miller. "He felt it was a great opportunity to join a team that's rebuilding and in need of his services. He also feels confident that he fits well with Coach [Scott] Skiles' mentality. He's a grinder, a tough guy, a lunch pail guy."

Last year Trent averaged 5.6 points and 3.2 rebounds for the T'Wolves as a backup to Kevin Garnett. Minnesota had expressed interested in re-signing him, but Miller said Trent viewed Chicago as a better career opportunity.

He and KG are best friends but in reality, that is really all he was. He was only there last year because we couldn't find anyone else and the injury bug was bitting us.

It's always sad to see a guy go after being here for a little while but I'm not upset. There are better players than him out there on the market still.

He had some good performances at the start of the season off the bench when he got some good minutes. Could be a good handy pickup for the Bulls just look what happened with Hoiberg and Hassel the other way around.

I remember that when he was in Portland he found solutions to improve his game and his skills, and he finally noticed that if he didn't improved that much, it was because he wasted too much time on videogames

Not the kind of player the Bulls need to get out of the NBA basement, but a decent insurance policy if one of the other frontcourt players goes down with an injury. It can't hurt anymore than having Antonio Davis on the roster.

Don't the Bulls already have a little too much PF's on their roster?

They do, but Davis will probably be backing up Curry at centre. Trybanksi's the only other natural centre on the roster at the moment and I don't relish the prospect of him being the second string man in the middle.

Oh god...

The Bulls need this size down low, but Trent isn't the kind they need. The Bulls need a player with bulk and height...AD, TC, Trent, Harrington cannot fill. Only Treb can, and he's a...scrub. Trent's there for the toughness, but I doubt he'll do much. I seriously thought Pax/Skiles were over these hard workers who can't do jack squat on offense like Ronald Dupree, Linton Johnson the Third...

Gary is very effective on the offensive end, that isn't his problem. He is a liability on defense and is such a damn ball hog it's not funny.

That's exactly the problem. "An effective" scorer...". You're not a ball hog and an effective scorer.

for your information Trent should be waived soon as the Bulls were disappointed at Trent's behaviour towards younger players and that he wasn't in shape
