2018-2019 Season Daily Discussion

Sat Oct 20, 2018 12:33 pm

Here's our traditional catch-all topic for daily discussion and random thoughts about the current NBA season, 2018-2019 Edition. Remember that we've got a whole section dedicated to discussing the real NBA so it doesn't all have to go in this topic, but if it doesn't feel significant enough to create a separate one, here's the place to post it. We can always split off discussions as need be.

To tip things off, anyone else catch the Celtics/Raptors game? At the risk of sounding very cliche, it had a Playoff atmosphere, great back and forth through most of it until the Raptors took control late with some big shots and big defensive stops, including a chasedown block from Danny Green and a couple of savvy charges drawn by Kyle Lowry. It's early days, but Kawhi Leonard is looking comfortable in Toronto, and certainly healthy. Ibaka may have rediscovered his form, too.

Imagine if we didn't have the Warriors or KD was on the Knicks, how beautiful the league would be this season. We would have had at least 10 teams gunning for championship.

Whoa, mayhem, dude. Rondo is a piece of shit going back over a decade and he was getting owned by CP3 tonight

Spitgate 2019: not an obvious loogey but probably more like a gleak so he could get away with it.

Thanks Q, been looking for the right angle of this thing for an hour now with no luck. Doesn't look like spitting to me. Maybe he made it rain because of that mouthpiece lol. Don't know if you guys ever tried one of those but you basically share the love with anyone stading in front of you, let alone in your face. But again, we are talking about Rondo.

Nikola Jokic becomes the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to register a triple-double while shooting 100% from the field. I know it's all too easy to place arbitrary importance on statistical marks/various accomplishments, especially players being the first/one of the few to tally certain numbers in very specific scenarios, but any day that you can put up 35 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, not turn the ball over while making every field goal and going 10/11 at the free throw line, and your team wins by 28, you've had a great game.

I was thinking the same thing; that Rockets/Lakers game was amazing. The league is kind of starting to feel like it did a decade ago.

What was Ingram so pissed about?

Yup, I think it was that Harden was owning him in this noobish, unstoppable way. Like real-life 2K cheese.

Obviously an extremely small sample size and I expect the numbers will come back to Earth fairly soon, but Joe Ingles is off to a ridiculous start:

He claims he's a better 3 point shooter than Curry lmao

Set shot he has an argument but off the dribble and overall, definitely not

Jingles is money.

Chris Paul had that coming for a long time.
I see no spit, the players around them would have reacted if Rondo did spit.
It's just Chris Paul pretend wiping his face so he could have a reason to gouge Rondo's eyes out.

Rondo deserved that for being a little bitch about getting owned by cp3 all game. He definitely gleaked on him

Probably being tongue-in-cheek, to be fair.

That moment a guy you went to high school with scores 17 on the Cavs and you don't even remember him.

Seemed pretty serious to me.

The Australian brand of sarcasm and humour is lost on the rest of the world. That's my take on those remarks.

Either way, his confidence has to be pretty high right now, with the way the shots are falling. If he keeps up this performance, he'll probably be a candidate for Most Improved.

CP is the victim here. Rondo was the instigator

Him or his Fanboys? ;)
CP for hall of fame but he is a prick. Hall of Fame prick too. Rondo deserves a slap too.

Glen Davis certainly isn't about to come to Chris Paul's defense on this one.

As for Rondo's thoughts on the matter...

Of course, Ray Allen might say the same of Rondo.

Steph Curry with 51 points and eleven three-pointers, all in three quarters of action. Hot take: he's a pretty good shooter.

Also, triple-doubles on both sides with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ben Simmons, with the Bucks beating the 76ers. Big numbers out of the gate.

i've caught the last 2 Jazz games. coach snyder is great. its sometimes remarkable how this team can put points on the board. Gobert is a defensive force but on offense but may possibly be the most uncoordinated player when he has the ball. Favors lost weight but can't shoot and Rubio is a big drag when he can't hit any shots.

Mitchell making some hero shots against the Rockets.

id rather see Crowder with the starters to space it out and give rubio the quick yank when he's miserable from the perimeter. just let smokin' Joe run the show

Is it just me, or is scoring way up this year? Seems like teams are regularly scoring 130 or 140 points. 110 points in a game is almost a given for any team in the league

It's not just you. Every team but the Celtics is averaging more than 100 points per game. A part of it is just the continued evolution of the game (the new offensive rebounding rule likely also contributes), but also the refs have been very whistle-friendly. I personally dislike these high scoring games, but that's just the direction the league wants to go in.
