Big's wont shot long shots

Postby Wudlock on Fri Apr 13, 2018 2:29 am

I'm new here. Hi to everyone. My name is Pavle and my nick on this forum is Wudlock. I'm from Serbia.

During many years of playing NBA Live series I found this problem in NBA Live 2006 PC version.
Big's (Centers and PF's) shot only few long shots and threes if they controlled by CPU. They shot only if there is no other options and if running out of time.
In real life and in NBA 2K9 they shot if they have open shot, as it should be.
Did any of you notice this problem and whether someone has a solution?

Sorry for my bad English.

Back then, most NBA bigs didn't take a lot of three-pointers, so it's by design. It was accurate then, not so much now.

There is a field in the players.dbf file called THREEPTATT, which determines the percentage of a player's attempts that will come from three-point range. Changing that value (it's a percentage out of 100) will, in theory, allow a player to shoot more or fewer three-pointers when controlled by the CPU.

More information on the players.dbf file can be found here. The easiest way of changing that value is to open a saved roster with DB Commander, find the player you want to change, scroll across to the THREEPTATT, and enter a new value. Move to another cell (box) in the database to save the change automatically, close DB Commander, and load the roster in-game.

I can't guarantee the results will be perfect or even satisfactory, because a game like NBA Live 06 does have AI that's certainly outdated by current standards, and again, it was designed to mimic the style of play in the NBA as it was 12-13 years ago. But that's the attribute to experiment with.

Thanks Andrew on the answer.
I know and I believe that the problem in 2006 is that at that time basketball played like that. I'm trying to combine 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008 for years and to make them from 2006 that would be perfect. I tried to put THREEPTAT at 100%, but I did not get any results, more precisely nothing changed in the game. PF and C still do not shoot long shots and threes. So far, I have only managed to make some difference with sliders in the game. Otherwise I prefer to watch matches as a coach of a team (CPU vs. CPU). I will post the sliders in a forum so that others can try them out and point out some possible mistakes.
Thanks again.

That's a shame. If upping THREEPTATT and a player's three-point rating doesn't have the desired effect, there may not be an ideal solution.

Another idea would be to edit the team's playbooks so the CPU runs more plays intended for bigs who can shoot from range, but again, I'm not sure how effective that would be.

I tried everything that came to my mind in these 10 years and more since I own NBA Live 2006 and nothing helped.

Simply playmakers do not pass the ball to big players (PF and C) if they are not under the basket.

In NBA Live 2008, better distribution of the ball and better passing, although the main one is a single (or two) pass and shot.

I wonder if there is a chance for the playmaker to pass the ball to players (PF and C) when they are not under the basket?

If changing those values and the playbooks doesn't make a difference, I'm not sure much will. It's old AI, after all.

I changed the plays.dbf,
p1 field I put it all at pg, and left the remaining fields p2 and p3 empty.

Now I have shots from the distance. Not as much as it should be, but the game is now much better to watch.

The shots of C and PF are now much wider and more diverse.

With the sliders I put on the forum, it plays a much better and have more realistic look.

I noticed that in nba live 2003 the principle of the game is similar to what is being played today (runngun).

I also noticed that in dbf files there is a lot of things missing.
Is this the reason why players behave differently than in 2006?

Also in 2003, 2004 and 2005 there is a dynamic for offensive, in 2006 no.
Can the dynamics be made for 2006 and would it change the way the game is played?

A few values were removed and added over the years, yes. However, if a field is added to the databases for a game that doesn't use it by default, it'll just be ignored.

And what if I take away some fields (in DBF) from NBA Live 2006?
Will it change the way players behave on the field?

No, the game will crash if it can't find all the fields it expects to in the database.

Does anyone know how to make the playmaker pass the ball to the other players faster?

I noticed that if a playmaker gives the player a ball (for example, sg or sf) then they better passes the ball further, and the better the shots are (the more real).

I think it depends on how good your point guard is and his speed and quickness ratings and his fatigue he will pass the ball more if he is not that good so i would lower those ratings if u want him (the point gaurd) to keep the ball and dominate u should raise those ratings and then edit the playbook

Thank u sir (Y) and also the offense awareness should be 0 for players that are not stars and offense awareness for the star players should be 100 all great players offense aware should be 100 and players that are not that good should be 0 because a player wit no offense awareness will pass the ball more and give it to the players that have 100 percent offense. The players that are not that good defense aware should be 100 so if u catching my drift star player offense awareness 100 and if he is not a star his defense should be 100 so basically u should edit each player ratings awareness, fatigue, speed and quickness
