State of the PC "niche" market

Sun Sep 17, 2017 12:51 am

Just checked the state of the game on PC and found this interesting.

Right now there is over 21000 concurrent players on Steam with estimated owners to be 35703 (±6851). That is a pretty solid number and just the sales of the game should be over 1 million USD easily even if we go pessimistic with the estimates.

So while we might be "niche" in comparison to consoles, it's good to put things into perspective and remember that we are million dollar market too.

I hope it keeps growing on PC. I was worried about the future of it, partly because the game tends to get review bombed on Steam over minor issues. I know it doesn't matter that much, but I still fee like it's a bit unfair. No doubt we'll be an afterthought compared to consoles, but as long as I have the option to play 2K on PC, I'll be a happy customer, no matter the amount of whiny complainers that nitpick the game to death.

While yes, Steam reviews are kind of a flawed and get regularly bombed over stuff like developer threatening to use DMCA claim to take down content they do not agree with anymore (but were fine when it got them publicity), I'd say that 2K18 has fundamental issues that aren't exactly minor.

If you want to play MyLeague or Play Now then there are only minor (in comparison to rest) issues. If you're into MyCareer/MyPark/Pro-Am then there are things that customers should know beforehand.

It can stay alive if 2K shows at least SOME effort to keep the cheat engine users out of the game. Or at least keep them from coming online with their bs.

Most of the negative reviews I read were not over minor things, and many were talking about issues I had with the game from 2k16 & 2k17, so it appears they are not interested in fixing past issues, just adding more and more nonsense that has nothing to do with basketball. I'm talking about career since that's all I ever played.

If you look at the Steam-Forums it seems like its 95% Chinese Players. The thing is I really dont care about how many players play on PC since all the Online Modes except maybe QuickGame are pretty bad and are just made to milk fucking Money for Virtual Currency out of People.

And TakeTwo would never stop making a PC Version since they put so little effort into it that it really does not cost them a lot of money.

I wasn't reading the Steam forums. I was reading the reviews on the Steam 2k18 store page.

Yup, last year broke me. After 20 years of PC ball gaming. I finally bought a crummy console because I was sick of having my team ball winning streaks broken by bs cheaters. Sure, I had a 1900-750 win-loss record. But 70% of those losses were to nonsense 8fters launching half court 3's after ankle-breaking me. I was so sick of chasing people 3x faster than me and so sick of accusing people of cheating. So many borderline people that I got into online arguments with. This year, if I lose, I know it's cause the other team flat out beat us.

F 2K for not fixing this simple problem. I am giving up a monster Pc that I built just for this one game in order to play cheat free.
