Is Shawn Kemp a hall of famer?

Postby VlaDiv on Fri Sep 10, 2004 1:37 pm

Only player from the 80s to come right out of High school. He had a great run of six all stars and powered a strong sonics team to the finals. He continued to play well in cleveland until 00. Then came portland where he truly stunk, and orlando where he just couldn't get it back together. He hasn't played since spring 03 so he might be done for good. Is he worth HOF?? I think so, you?

imo you need a full career to make the hall or atleast completly dominate is a self(early retirement, barry sanders, jim brown, sorry for football references) or injury shortened career. kemp didnt really totally dominate and he has done nothing for awhile now. imo he in no way deserves to make the hall of fame.

btw did dominique make the hall? will he? if he has not and wont then this question is just rediculous.

I dont think Kemp would make the NBA all-star team. Actually for me, his name doesnt stand out as much as PF's of the 90's like Karl and Barkley's names do.

Maybe he'll be considered but as Sauru says... he really needed to have played a whole career...

Behind them, he was probably the third best of the 90s. I'd say he deserves at least consideration. Just the fact that the end of his career was a mess should't overshadow his great years before that.

He wouldn`t fit for the HOF.
There is more great players than him.
Besides Kemp has had up`s and down`s too much, he`s not balanced,he has got many injuries too.

i agree with Rens, he does deserve consideration to be in the HOF. saying Kemp wont fit for the HOF is like saying Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill is not fit for the HOF.

I totally agree.

If Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill and Shawn Kemp are fit for the HOF, then why not ... Glen Rice?! No no no.

Dominique Wilkins deserves this consideration. He was an exceptionnal scorer and athlete during all his career.

personally i think the nba has been giveing nique the shaft for along time. wtf was he not named one of the 50 best back when they did that at the all star game. no way shaq belonged there over dominque. he does now, but not then. also they left him off the original dream team. it still bugs me to this day that they put laettner on that team, want a college kid? put shaq in there. you hardly ever hear dominiques name mentioned anymore, he could play. he constantly was carring around a crap team trying to bring them somewhere, though he never did. maybe thats why you dont hear from him much or why he never gets the credit he deserves.

wilkens reminds me alot of barry sanders. both did amazing things and both were forever stuck on shit teams, and now after both are gone they dont get the credit they deserved. sure sanders gets alot but espn left him off thier top 10 of all time football players list, and that was just insulting to me as a fan of the game.

Shit he could play. I remember when the Hawks played the celts (early 90's playoffs) when Nique and the birdman kept exchanging 3's. That was a kickass game.

He deserves to be in the HOF, he is the "Human Highlight reel!!!!!!"

If the Hall of Fame took every "what could have been" player into considersation, it'd be even more watered down with players who probably shouldn't be there.

Penny Hardaway and Shawn Kemp are not in the category of "what could have been". you and I know that they have been to the finals. you and i know that in the 90's they were in the top 5 in their position. A player like Len Bias is someone that should be in the category of "what could have been".
we all saw Grant Hill in his prime, same goes with Kemp and Penny. They deserve to be considered in the HOF.

as for Nique, i agree with this
personally i think the nba has been giveing nique the shaft for along time

he is one of the 50 greatest players of all time.. its a shame that he wasnt considered as one...

Len Bias couldve made life a living hell for us laker fans... he was gonna give Boston the big boost... as a basketball fan, its sad to think how good he and the celtics wouldve been.

I dont really know much about the goat...

Penny and Hill had a few great years and then got injured. Shawn Kemp basically had a great career but played a bit too long. Definately not the same cases.

I think he deserves consideration, but I think he'd be a "by the skin of his teeth" Hall of Famer. Had his career not suffered such a decline he'd have a stronger case, stronger still if he had a title or two next to his name. But as it stands, he'll be very lucky if he's enshrined in the Hall. As much as I like him, he just didn't quite reach the level to be considered a definite HOFer.
