2nd most versatile player in the league?

playing more than one position does not sololy qualify someone as most versitle imo. its the ability to do anything on the court that can give someone that crown imo. kg does alot for his team he is a very rounded player. few have mentioned odom and i would have to agree there also.

Grant Hill could be the most versatile player now if he was not injured.

Except KG, I will mention Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol.

Dirk Nowitzki,

A 7 footer who can knock down threes with more consistency than most guards. Has a low post game and is developing his shotblocking skills and low post defense. He can handle the ball extremely well for his size and he is still learning. So Garnett and Nowitzki, It is tough to deside. Garnett being the better defender and Nowitzki being the outside shooter.

I can't wait until Nowitzki develops into his full potential. He is surely going to be something to watch out for. I read an article in slam once where McGrady, Duncan, and KG were interviewed and when asked 'who is the hardest player to guard?', both KG and Duncan said Dirk and Elton Brand.

Why KG?He plays only 2 pos.?

KG played PG in the Lakers series. He can play all 5 positions.


I think it has to be Lamar Odom. He can almost every position on the court and has superb handling for his height.

I hate to say this, Tim Thomas is kind of verstile too.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Antoine Walker? With the Celtics, he played at least four positions -- PG, SF, PF, and C. I know so many people call him overrated all, but I think it's gotten to the point where he's underrated. His decision making skills need some work, but this guy can run the point, shoot the three with consistency, and demand the ball down low. His passing skills are great for a 6'9" player, and he provides great leadership to any team.

Oh, I forgot. LeBron is pretty versatile too. PG,SG,SF for the Cavs this year. He has great vision, good ball handling skills he needs to work on his shot but that will come.

I don't think playing multiple positions means versatile unless you get the stats... I don't know Curry's stats off the top of my head, but I don't think he should count unless he has at least 5 RPG and 1 BPG playing at center.

Toni Kukoc, anyone? I know for sure that he was a 6'11 point guard here in EU and he played on that position on several ocassions with the Bulls. And with being that tall, that talented and 6th player it's almoust impossible not to play every position on the team.

no you don't. you nominated him as the second most versatile player and even defend him when someone said Odom played multiple position and you said:

and even said curry played decent in C and PF position.

I'm going to step in here and try to fix Rens.

Michael Curry sucks. He is not even close to the most versatile player in the league.

First of all, even when he was younger, he had absolutely no offensive game. He was known as a defender. He's 6'7 or thereabouts and KO used him to guard PFs now and again. He has an incredibly limited skill set and he's degraded physically. He's got rock-bottom rebounding skills and for all of his "great defence," he produces almost nothing in terms of blocks and steals.

According to 82games.com, the Raptors were -6.5 with him on the court, compared to -1.4 otherwise.

No jump shot. Even his eFG% is below 40%. Doesn't draw fouls. His hands rating is 6.6, which is bad. He scores less than a point per scoring opportunity and while his TS% is 45.3%, he is quite clearly a miserable offensive player. His efficiency rating is +2.79. His jump shot percentage is under 34%.

His offensive ineptitude counteracts any skill he might have on defence, which was hard to see while he was playing with the Raptors.

When someone makes you play 4-on-5 ball offensively, he is not even remotely close to versatile.

gotta say lamar odom, aside from kevin garnett and maybe tim duncan i haven't seen anyone that can handle the ball as well as him for that height.. pretty sure he can play all 4 positions, questionable for the 5 .. but yeah lamar odom for me

It's obviously Michael Curry, he played all but PG, and if you give him 48 minutes a game he can get 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 0.5 blocks, how many players can actually do that....and all this while playing good hacking defense.


After Curry it's Lamar Odom, Antoine Waker | Chris Webber, All those SG's that have their big numners, and Jason Kidd, Steve Francis, and Gilbert Arenas. Shawn Marion would be if he was a better passer and ball handler.

Webber's a good passer and can hit the outside shot, so I think he'd be a good choice.

I also agree with Odom, only he's not thick enough to play the C.

I was also thinking o Kidd as in terms of stats. He rebounds the ball well, is the leagues best passer, can shoot, and has defense. He doesn't play all 5 positions though, if we're thinking in terms of that.

I'd probably say KG, Nowitzki and Odom if we're looking for someone that can play a wide variety of positions..

I'm nominating: Michael Curry.
Played SG, SF, PF, C for the Raptors last season. Did it all, defending star PFs on a west coast trip! Actually the Raptors had a better record when Curry had played PF or C than they had when he played SF!

I don't recall Curry playing C for the Raptors, although I do remember KO loosing about half his brain and having Curry guard PF's like Brand. But you know what, I'll play your game. Boris Diaw is the most versatile player in the NBA. He played every position, including center last year. I cannot believe nobody has mentioned him. He's like a jack of all trades (except for shooting) and a master of none (except for defense and passing). He is the most versatile in the league.

But seriously, I think 2nd would be Odom, followed by Antoine Walker...and then it gets a bit more tricky.

Diaw didn't play PG or C though.

I think LeBron James will have a chance at becoming the 2nd most versatile player, he's already 6'8 230 or something like that, and he looked pretty strong at the Olympics.
