No more Duncan in international play?

Postby Riot on Mon Aug 30, 2004 12:08 pm

Tim Duncan -

"I'm going to say it nicely," Duncan said. "It hasn't been fun." Asked about doing it again in 2008, Duncan said, "I'm about 95 percent sure my FIBA career is over." Asked what he learned from the experience, Duncan said, "FIBA Sucks"

I don't have the link but it's crediable. If that is true, which I think it is, I hope he isn't for real. I hope all the NBA stars come out to play in 2008. I mean everyone, and start practicing and getting together a 1 year before the 08 games. Why? So we can friggin dominate those fags.

Oh yeah, AI and Melo said they want to play in the 08 games.

As much as I hate AI, i'm starting to respect him more. He gave his all in the olympics. So did Odom, when we lost to Argentina Odom was running around with 30 seconds left trying to win. Him, AI and Marbury we're tryign 100%.

I hate it that the whole world hates our men's basketball team, all our teams. God, get a life. Yes, you beat us. I hope you're happy. You beat an American team with their hands tied behind their backs. Just wait till 2008...Just wait...I beat everyone will come out just to domiante. Just to show who is the boss.

I think alot of the stars are going to regret not going to the Olympics. KG, Shaq, JO, Brand, Kidd, VC, ect. I think they missed out on a chance to win gold. To make a difference.

i would not say they beat us with our hands behind our backs, they beat us fair so we gotta give them credit. now i think that not winning the gold is gonna turn out to be a very good thing for USA basketball. this will probably have them jerks totally rethink everything about the selection process. maybe they will get players who can gel better instead of the biggest available names who are willing to go and the top college player.

don't blame duncan for not wanting to play anymore.. the refs FUCKED with him royally the last couple games of the tournament, calling ridiculous fouls.. especially that one game where he fouled out, i think against argentina.. i'm not saying the refs caused USA to lose because argentina was definately the better team, but for christ sakes just let them play..

ai and odom should definately be praised for their work in this tournament.. they busted their ass for the team and you gotta respect that

Duncan needed Kidd bad! and Shaq too!

poor him...it was Duncan vs. the refs. They killed him with all of the calls!

And Shaq, Kidd, KG, etc. as u said before should all be shamed for not paricipating.

I never liked Iverson but his performance in the Olympics makes me think he's a great player!

I think they don't give a fuck.

Now Duncan is saying he won't return...he should have adapted to Fiba rules instead of complaining. Apart from a few calls the refs just followed the rules.
Don't get me wrong Duncan is a great player (Mvp imo) but im surprised he reacts like that.

Dont get offended man, nothing personal but what you said is BULLSHIT IMO

no- i'm not offended... but I dont think what I said was bullshit...

But whole USA team needed Kidd and Shaq. But not Duncan. Duncan is special. He doesnt need Kidd or Shaq to get that trophy.

They were trying to get medals...not trophies. And if Duncan is so special why didn't he win... no three point shooter???

Well...thats actually true but IMO Shaq and Kidd would have been more important and first priority. Shaq will always draw a double team. Kidd can pass the ball. I wasn't saying that Team USA shouldn't have three point shooters.

Don't get me wrong there. I know their problems

I was just saying Duncan needed Kidd/Shaq for this Olympics with the inexperienced squad they had. Sorry for not making my points...but what i said wasnt bullshit and everyone is entitled to their own opinion!

And I'm not dissing urs either!

And with ur team?

C-Brad Miller
PF-Duncan
SF-Ray Allen
SG-Michael Redd
PG-Allen Iverson

Ray Allen wouldnt have gone to Athens... might as well put Ron Artest in there! :D

Wow, Duncan is a straight up gangsta yall....he said "sucks"...WOW

The US should stop whining, they think that they are the only country out there who plays basketball, so it should be played under their rules. International basketball is so much different then American basketball and he/they should know that instead of bashing the refs for being to strict or whatever. I do agree that some calls on him were lame, but hey...learn from them, if I would get called for fouls all the time, then I would just stop doing the thing I did and just adjust to the game, thats something they didnt do. He gets my respect for giving up his summers to play for the US team, but dont quit as a whiner.

Oh, I bet they do. Most of them won the medal in 2000 but the experience and the chance to do something for your country is something they will miss out on. The olympics is a great event. I'm sure Shaq, KG, Kidd, JO and others are all ashamed they didn't go. As a huge KG fan I'm dissapointed he didn't go. Somethings are more important than the Olympics and I know that (getting married is a big thing too in his life and VC's) but come on...I know that's not the only reason you didn't go. The wedding was in June and the Olympics were in August.

In 2008 I expect team USA to dominate like the 1992 team. I really mean it. Nobody took these games seriously besides AI and Odom and sometimes Duncan. I'm upset with Duncan right now. He went, I liked that, but don't whine your ass off when you just won a bronze medal.

Bronze is good but gold is the only winner.

USA Gold in 08.

 no offense but you sound offended there, haha

but yeah i agree with what homer said, they didn't really need kidd there.. i don't think he would've helped the shooting woe's that they had

shooting-wise, marbury > kidd

he needed shooters like barry, redd, bowen to spread things out a little to make it easier for the US and a lot tougher for their opposition

I'm probably the biggest Starbury fan on these boards so this isn't a biased statement. Starbury's shooting strength is putting a move on you then just pulling up in your face. JKidd shoots better on the open kickout. So as much as I love Starbury and think he belonged in Athens. Kidd is a better fit for the team and I would choose him over Steph. However I would take Steph over Dwyane.

Boomers for gold in 08!

Well mayby not gold, But I hope they medal. There's some excellent young prospects in Markovich and Bogut.

Its never too early for me to make an idiot of myself, so here are my fearless predictions for the 08 us team:

Centre:Jermaine
Power Forward: Amare
Small Forwad: Melo
Shooting Guard: Lebron
Point Guard: Iverson

(I've made some assumptions on which players will decline.)
Wade
Vince
Marbury
Chris Bosh
Eddy Curry
JR Smith
Ben Gordon

Post who you think will make it in 3 years (not who will make it now), then we can check back in 08 to see how wrong we were :proud:

I'm guessing there'll be some draftee's in there at some point, Chris Paul and the like. Andrew Bogut will get $$$ to become a US citizen when Duncan bores himself into retirement.

I think USA lost to other teams beacuse the "Dream Team" was formed almost by rookies (LeBron, Anthony, Wade, Okafor).
