John Henson racially profiled at jewelry store

I actually believe mainstream media likes incite race war in this country. How many times have we seen public stirred up that led to unnecessary violence and division among citizens.

I read somewhere owner's shops being robbed more than couple times in recent years. And police claims they had probable cause. It's word against word. Sure, there's chance it was a foul profiling, but most probably came to that conclusion just from massive number of headlines from media.

Growing up, my parents told me the sad reality of life - no matter how much money/status a black person has, to many non-blacks you'll always be "just a n*****". Doesn't matter if you're a brotha from the 'hood, an off-duty cop/fireman, an average middle -class dude like me, a Wall Street broker, a professional athlete or the President. Eventually we get our (to quote Paul Mooney), "n***** wake-up call".

Dude don't say things like that. Obama did get elected President twice. There are still some low-lives who will always look down on others based on their racial/ethnic background but most people are forced to respect a person with a strong character.

And why do you quote Paul Mooney? That guy is nothing special. Be a strong principled person and people will be forced to respect you.

I'm an Indian in the US btw . Yeah some people might be racist but it doesn't matter as long as you do what is right as a matter of principle. You become stronger as a person and people are forced to respect it. That's true all over the world regardless of race.

Don't say things like that? Why not? It's the damn truth. Why sugarcoat it? The fact that my father & brother were cops didn't stop them from getting profiled when they were off-duty. It's reality, and we deal with it the best we can.

Obama being president hasn't stopped mfers from calling him n*****, pimp, thug or monkey, has it? Don't fall for the "post-racial society" nonsense peddled by the media. Race does matter, especially when law enforcement is involved. You can be of strong character, do the right your entire life and still get f-d up because you "fit the profile" (see James Blake).

There's a good reason why black American parents (even those who are in law enforcement), have to have "the talk" with their kids, particularly sons.

I agree, that "post-racial society" bullshit is just the man pretending that these matters don't exist. It's in place to keep us from speaking out, to keep us in line. About a month ago I was reading an interesting article about how the Asian "model minority" stereotype was created and is used to create division amongst minorities. That was an interesting point as it's something I've had to live with but never really thought about too much.

Maybe I had it easy growing up being taught to treat everyone as equals which I also think basketball helped me meeting new people from different backgrounds and races but I only see then as friends and teammates.

I always have used the quote "we are all the same race... The Human race!" And I pray that one day that's how the world sees it too.

Im sorry for disregarding your bad experiences. I agree with you there are some despicable people like that but let me tell you its not just whites. In India people get very discriminating towards blacks and dark skinned people. If it makes you feel any better then just think of it like the whole world has the same rules and heirarchy. Some of us face more challenges than others but we can just use it as motivation to be better individuals. The people who look down on your family members will not have honor in the eyes of God (I'm faithful) because they refuse to give proper value to one of his best creations.

Im not too surprised. Im aware of Castro system. Also my azn friend married east Indian girl. And believe me, my friend and the girl were threatened and she literally had to run away from her family in the middle of night. Is it cultural difference or racism? Many cultures like jewish, chinese, Japanese look down on intermarriage. But for some reasons, we are programmed to scream racism when white European supports marriage within their people. Also to Q, note Latinos are majority in California, whites are minority lIke azn in ur region. Average white person isnt racist and has absolutely nothing to gain from being racist. When Indian parents object to IR marriages its mostly due to cultural differences and not racial reasons themselves. Also arranged marriage is still the custom for a lot of Indian families and love marriage is said to bring dishonor to the family, especially if your daughter is involved.

Oh absolutely! My homies from India & Guyana told me the same things over the years. Seems in ANY society, the darker-skinned folks always catch more hell. I've experienced just as much bigotry from other folks of color (asians, indians, latinos) as I have from whites. Igorance knows no color. But my father taught us never use that as an excuse not to achieve. Best way to beat a racist is by being successful.
