To me? I'm sick and tired of having 2 rounds in the NBA. It has been like that since 1989. I'd like the draft system to have at least 100 overall picks. That means 4 rounds (120 overall picks). The last NBA draft to have over 100 overall picks is the 1987 NBA draft. So that there are a lot of drafted prospects instead of more that went undrafted. What do you all think? Add in more rounds of the NBA draft?
Tue Aug 11, 2015 11:19 am
I think we need a 13 round draft. I know it's unlucky, but 14 rounds is too many, and 12 too few!
Tue Aug 11, 2015 11:52 am
i vote we get rid of the draft and the salary cap and just let teams sign whoever they want whenever they want for as much as they want
Tue Aug 11, 2015 12:04 pm
You vote for the Lakers to win the title every single year?
Tue Aug 11, 2015 1:09 pm
There's really no point or advantage to it, so while it wouldn't exactly ruin anything if they did it, I don't think it's something that needs to be done, nor should be done.

Don't forget mulligans on free throws!

Most of the 2nd round picks don't even make the team and you got teams dumping picks in favor for cap room

This would be extremely stupid.
Average lifespan for NBA players is 4 years. A lot of them rarely see minutes on regular basis. Increasing quantity doesn't do jack for quality.
Increasing draft rounds for what? Undrafted players still get picked up as long as they showcase their skillset through lesser stages like Summer league, D league, international league and so on. Why should NBA and league pay for the cost to accommodate these players through drafting/contract process? That is just stupid. Undrafted players are pretty much sucky free agent players that belong to elsewhere until proven otherwise. No need to pay them and keep them around in hopes of big ass improvement which is highly unlikely.

21 rounds. That way I might as well get drafted (definitely not signed though lol).
Tue Aug 11, 2015 6:38 pm
I agree with the OP's idea.
Players drafted in the later rounds may not even play in the league but at least it will look good in their resume and for bragging rights.
"I was a 1st pick in the 21st round of the NBA Draft!"

You could really find the next Joel Anthony in the 21st round.

To be fair, some are simply overlooked for one reason or another. But yeah, most players who go undrafted aren't prime, can't-miss prospects.
Whatever the case may be though, players who go undrafted sometimes have an advantage over second round picks, and even first round picks who are "projects". No one holds their rights as with a drafted player, so there's more freedom to try their luck through other avenues. If you're a low second round pick that a team doesn't want to sign, and you want a shot at making the league, tough luck. You're not going to another team unless your rights are traded, or renounced. Better to be undrafted and keep your options open.

I don't think an extra draft round is needed, the talent drop off in the 2nd round is already pretty high so players taken in the 3Rd probably wouldn't make the roster plus we already have the DLeague and there draft too.
Tue Aug 11, 2015 7:46 pm
2 rounds. 3 would be pointless since after the 30th pick and some other busts in the first round, no one's going to be able to stick to a team anyways.
Tue Aug 11, 2015 7:47 pm
Sure most undrafted players are never heard of, but then we have players like Raja Bell, UD, Wallace...
Tue Aug 11, 2015 7:51 pm
there's summer league for them. No need to panic.

I think you think something like in NFL. Well in NFL there are million positions, abd you need at least 2 players on every position, so thats shy they have a lot of rounds.
In basketball, roster max is 15 players, so I think this is a non sense.
Maybe it makes more sense to make 4 rounds * 15 players
Secons of all, I don't know how much NLSC have members, but I am sure you won't find a lot of people here...
Third of all, I don't think Adam Silver is on NLSC

We need more draft picks like Carl Lewis, dammit!

No wait, I'm secretly David Stern...at least according to the people who used to email me asking me to do something about the officiating in the Playoffs.

I think I am fine with 2 rounds. Most teams trade away their pick anyway for established players. At lot of times most teams do not want to tend to many rookies in any given year, teams want players which will make immediate impact. Also, undrafted players that find some moderate success make excellent fluff pieces for sports columns. And I think we need more of those feel good fluff pieces so we can have decent thread conversations here. lol
Anyway here is my all undrafted team:
C- Brad Miller
PF - Ben Wallace
SF - Andres Nocioni
SG - John Starks
PG - Avery Johnson

Andrew, I've been on this forum since 1998, so this is already my second account. And since starting here I have always been curious is there ever been
ONE female in these forum?
Also, NLSC is like celebrating the big 2-0 next year, after rigging the NBA in your Adam Silver persona, can you get Lutz to drop by and say hi?

There's been a few ladies. We have at least one active presently, in fact.
We would like to do some stuff to mark our 20 years in existence next year. I'll reach out to Lutz, for sure.

It's kind of a Faceless Men from Game of Thrones type of situation, actually.
