Copeland signs with Bucks; Jackson retires

Fri Jul 24, 2015 6:03 pm

Free-agent forward Chris Copeland has agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, league sources told ESPN.com.

Formerly of the Indiana Pacers, Copeland joins the Bucks after his 2014-15 season ended April 8 when he was stabbed outside of a New York nightclub.

He underwent surgery for knife wounds to his left elbow and abdomen. In addition, a source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN's Chris Broussard that Copeland fractured his elbow.

Copeland apologized for the incident and spent much of the offseason rehabbing the injuries.

Stephen Jackson, who once was suspended for punching a fan and won one championship while playing for seven teams during his 14-year career, is retiring from the NBA.

The 37-year-old Jackson averaged 15.1 points per game while playing for the Nets, Spurs, Hawks, Warriors, Bobcats, Bucks and Clippers, with whom he last played during the 2013-14 season.

He won his lone championship ring with the Spurs in 2003.

Jackson was suspended for 30 games -- and charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and battery -- for his part in the "Malice in the Palace" brawl in the stands during a Pacers-Pistons game during the 2004 season.

Jackson, who had followed Ron Artest into the stands during the incident, had claimed that the fan had used racial slurs. In all, nine players were suspended for a total of 146 games, and five players and seven fans were charged with criminal offenses.

I could see Stephen Jackson going broke in the future, talented player but be burnt his bridges with every nba city he played in much like JR Smith.

Solid career for Jackson, controversial incidents aside. I wonder if Ray Allen will also be calling it quits after sitting out the entire 2015 season.

I thought he already retired?

Ray Allen was said to be thinking about joining a playoff team last year but decided against it and taking more time with his family

Which makes it sound like he's all but retired, though there's been no official announcement on it as yet.

Despite Stephen Jackson's personality, Popovich still likes him.

Yeah the first time around, when he was younger but Pops wasn't interested in him later on when Jax had left GS

I wouldn't exactly call 20 mpg in the entire season and playing all 14 games in playoffs in 2012 as Pops not having interest in Jackson.

I mean once he left...

Pops didn't jump at getting back after he left the Bucks sorry.
