So Shaq posted in his instagram that the Lakers' all-time 5 will beat the Bulls' all-time 5 by 50 points. What do you guys think?
Lakers:
PG - Magic Johnson
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Elgin Baylor
PF - Shaquille O'Neal
C - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Bulls:
PG - Derrick Rose
SG - Michael Jordan
SF - Scottie Pippen
PF - Dennis Rodman
C - Horace Grant

i am wondering why he used horace grant for center. also i think the bulls would win just on chemistry alone. biggest problem for them would be kareem but i dont think he is enough to put them over the top. bulls take 4-2 imo

If we want to really be serious about this, I think that it should be an 8-10 man rotation to address position issues where players are forced to play out of position just to force a first 5. This is how I see it. I think it makes it more interesting for me. Now to get someone to make the rosters and sim this for us.
Bulls:
C- Cartwright
PF - Grant
SF - Scottie
SG - MJ
PG - Rose
Bench - Artis Gilmore, Theus, Kerr
Notable exlusions: Bob Love, Chet Walker, Kukoc & Rodman
Lakers:
C- Chamberlain
PF - Kareem
SF - Worthy
SG - Kobe
PG - Magic
Bench - Shaq, Baylor & West
Notable exclusions: McAdoo, Goodrich, Mikan, Wilkes & Scott

Shaq is a clever guy. He just knows how to make people keep talking about him.

In terms of individual talent, the Lakers' all-time starting five is obviously better from top to bottom. As Sauru said though, the Bulls would probably have better chemistry.

Did you guys seen Scottie Pippen's photo which he posted on FB/Insta?! SHAQ IS DOWN
EDIT: Oooooh, another one, guys you have to see!!!

of course the bulls would have better team chemistry. they only had 1 good team.

Not featuring the lineup that Shaq suggested, though.

they dont even need to have good chemistry, the lakers would be fighting themselves the entire game. no way those players all get along.
also i never really liked shaq as a player but his post career he has been nothing but annoying. he is like a kid running around screaming "LOOK AT ME. HEY GUYS LOOK OVER HERE. HEY ITS ME, GIVE ME ATTENTION". you were good shaq, everyone knows it but you were not the best and you honestly didnt even try to be so stop spending all your time trying to convince people how good you were

He was a bit like that during his career, too. That said, I also found him pretty funny and entertaining, but sometimes I'd just be left thinking "Come on, you're better than that" or "Jeez, grow up".

In terms of talent it's not even close, so I get where Shaq is coming from. Speaking about team chemistry isn't necessary.
Shaq always gives us things like this. Entertaining guy.
Tue Jul 21, 2015 8:08 pm
i still want to know why he picked horace grant for the center?
Tue Jul 21, 2015 8:10 pm
Artis Gilmore doesn't change the fact LA has the superior talent level.
Tue Jul 21, 2015 8:25 pm
player for player i pick LA 3-2. as a team the bulls are far better. going one by one LA blows away the bulls as kareem and magic have a huge gap at their positions. being a team game however the bulls win this match up. seeing as shaq was a member of the lakers in the 2004 finals i assume he has some understanding that this is a team game

Shaq can't play PF. That is stupid. Spacing doesn't exist for the Lakers anyway. They'd get killed by the Bulls' balanced offense left and right. Neither do they have legs to keep up with running Bulls.
Take out Horace and insert Noah in prime, the Bulls instantly gets buff both on offense and defense. Besides you can always turn to Hack a Shaq strategy. Sorry Lakers fans but I don't see how the Lakers could functionally compete with such crapply put together roster.

As much as I think this is an interesting thread I feel it will get out of hand quickly whenever there is a discussion about Jordan vs Kobe lol
However looking at the two teams I'd say the Lakers have to much fire power for the Bulls.
Tue Jul 21, 2015 11:53 pm
Obviously as stated by everyone, individual's combined worth would favor the Lakers. But when actual basketball is played, you can't stop thinking about chemistry issues for the Lakers. Everyone's literally high usage players and there is only one ball. Same reason Gary Payton and Karl Malone couldn't thrive as Lakers, it'll be one or two players' hero ball. Given that Kobe refuses to be effective without the ball, this team will imploe from within. And when did Shaq ever play PF? Two primary centers that has never played out of positions to share the floor together? This is closer to Dwight/Asik experiment than Duncan/Robinson. Neither Shaq and Kareem possesses Duncan's proven versatility. Besides, there is absolutely ZERO SPACING which is uber important in today's league. Nobody on that team is a good 3pt shooter. The Bulls defense can just focus shutting down 1 on 1 basketball, in which the Bulls will thrive because they literally have 2 of the best defenders at 2 positions, and rest of the Bulls are also top notch individual defenders from their respective era. 1 on 1 basketball will struggle greatly especially when you can't pass out to perimeter for 3 point shots.
However the Bulls are extremely balanced. MJ/Pippen/Rodman core alone made to be the best team ever in history. They're proven best winners both individually and team wise.
Shaq has become major annoying presence from day 1 he joined the ESPN team. He just wouldn't stop PR himself. Bring back Webber ffs.

I dont know about you guys but in this fight, Shaq won.

I agree with the previous points. Chicago is hardly a historically good franchise like the lakers. Most of their best players come from the same era lol
1-10 the lakers easily have the talent edge. I would have loved to stormin norm van lier and jerry Sloan go up against any of the best laker backcourt players

I don't know, Shaq's "burns" were all kind of the same and a bit lame/childish. Sure, he got the last word there, but calling Pip a girl? What is this, high school?
I mean, there was nothing on the level of "The Mailman doesn't deliver on Sundays", but I think Pip had the better calls there. Speaking of Pip talking trash, I remember back in the day Larry Johnson took a shot at him, saying that his best move was "Here you go, twenty three". Pip responded by saying something along the lines of "I've accomplished more in my career accidentally than (Johnson) has on purpose".

In the bleacher report 2k game, Lakers win
Thu Jul 23, 2015 7:47 pm
That Lakers team got too much alpha dogs in it, it would've imploded... Shaq was probably not that confident that any of the Lakers team he's with can beat any of the 90's Bulls so he just went that way... It's sad that a lot of people is still underrating the A-Train eventhough he's a hall of famer already...

I dunno. At least Scottie's responses were on point. Shaq's last one was pretty cringe-worthy. I think it was the response of someone who got burned.
