Wolves sign Gugilotta

Postby Riot on Fri Aug 13, 2004 7:28 am

it's been reported on KFAN 1130 sports radio Minneapolis that the Timberwolves and Tom Gugliotta have agreed on a contract for the Veteran's minimum for 1 year.

This is a great signing, Gug's was great as a wolf *only all-star season* he isn't the same but he is still good.

It's not offical but look out for it.

Welcome back Gugs.

It's a great signing because it's your team signing him. Duh it'll be great to you.

Anyways, I'll reserve my comments till I know for what price he's been signed.

The Vet min...that's cheap.

Considering this guy is a former all-star, former wolf and 13ppg,7rpg career averages I say it's a good signing. He'll take over Gary Trent's spot as the 11th/12th man.

 I don't get it.

Vet's minimum. Not bad I suppose. He's no good anymore (he hardly ever played while with Phoenix) but yeah, perhaps he's a good person in the locker-room etc.

I just had a laugh because no matter who you sign as long as it's your team, it's always a great signing.

Oh, yeah but that is the way it is, isn't it?

Pff, I hate Divac, but I can learn to appreciate his passing skills. (I still hate him though. :D)

Just pry Lattner from the Mavs when he trade thing expires, and send KG to the bench!

When Googs signed with Phoenix prior to the 98/99 season, it seemed like a steal for the Suns but he's never been the same after health problems (I believe he began suffering epileptic fits in addition to some basketball related injuries). Still, he could probably give the Wolves a little help in limited time. At the very least, the signing shouldn't hurt them.

Googs meshed very well with Garnett. Could the Wolves be looking to move Kandiman? They haven't been happy with him.

I only seeing us tradin Kandi for another center. We're not ready to give up on Olowokandi just yet. He is working out with McHale and KG for 2 weeks this summer.

That should definetly do some good.

Celtics Sign Free Agent Forward Tom Gugliotta

The Boston Celtics today announced the signing of free agent forward Tom Gugliotta. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We're getting a very versatile player," said Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge who coached Gugliotta in Phoenix. "Along with his versatility, I think his physical and mental toughness are his greatest assets."

Gugliotta, known for his solid rebounding and soft shooting touch, was a 1993 First Team NBA All-Rookie selection. Selected sixth overall in the 1992 NBA Draft by Washington, Gugliotta averaged 14.7 points and 9.6 rebounds in his rookie campaign with the then Washington Bullets and would continue to improve eventually achieving All-Star status with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1997.

Yeah, that sucks. Oh well, like I said he would just be a 11th man or so. Just taking Gary Trent's spot. I wanted him back in minny but so-so.

He will be crying when Wolves win title :D

Celtics Sign Free Agent Forward Tom Gugliotta

BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Celtics today announced the signing of free agent forward Tom Gugliotta.

"He is a guy that can play a little bit of center in a pinch for Doc (Rivers)," continued Ainge. "He can play small forward, can play power forward. He can pass, he can shoot and create off the dribble. He's a complete basketball player. He really knows how to play the game."

The 6-10, 250-pound forward played two-plus seasons with Washington before being traded with first round draft picks in 1996, 1998, and 2000 to the Golden State Warriors for NBA All-Star Chris Webber on November 17, 1994. Gugliotta played in 40 contests for the Warriors over the remainder of the 1994-95 season where he averaged 10.9 points and 7.4 rebounds. Traded by the Warriors to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Donyell Marshall on February 18, 1995, Gugliotta turned in his best season as a pro in 1996-97, averaging 20.6 points and 8.7 rebounds, earning a spot on the 1997 All-Star team. He was signed as a free agent by the Phoenix Suns on January 23, 1999 and most recently was a member of the Utah Jazz after being traded by the Suns to Utah with a first round draft pick for Keon Clark and Ben Handlogten on February 19, 2004. The 12-year veteran saw action in 25 games with the Jazz, including 24 starts, and averaged 3.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per game.

A superstar at North Carolina State, Gugliotta became only the third player in school history to amass more than 1,500 points and 800 rebounds. As a testament to his versatility, in his senior year Gugliotta was the only player in the country to lead his conference in both scoring (22.5 ppg) and three-pointers per game (3.1). He also averaged 9.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists that year.

What I said earlier still applies, only the team has changed. He can probably give the Celtics a little help in limited time. At the very least, the signing shouldn't hurt them.

The Celts will be looking to give him some time at PF and C, he could help them there. Very unexpected signing. It's a nice deal to have him for the vets minimum.

I think he'll be too slow to play SF, maybe a bit on offense though, he does have a lot of range for a big guy.
