I started getting into the NBA around the time that Kemp has begun establishing himself as a star player. Whilst I wouldn't probably pick him ahead of Barkley or Malone, he was definately a quality player.

(Remember the Reebok shoes? The ones that looked like a zebra crossing?)

He had some spectacular highlights, heaps of alley-oops. Regularly the Kemp-Payton 'oop would make it into NBA Action (yep, australian's didn't get much NBA on TV back then and NOTHING now). I also remember the dunk contest where he pretty much blew it. Did he only make one attempt? I'm not sure.

My favourite one was an alley oop from Payton when after he dunked it he grabbed the rim for a second and pointed at someone in the crowd. Don't know why, but I guess just being able to do that is pretty spectacular.

Cheers
Mick

Weren't those Reebok zebra-style shoes by Shaq? I had a pair, he brought out a whole range of weird white/black shoes...

I believe those were Kemp's shoes, the Reebok Kamikazes.

That actually sounds like one of his attempts in the 1994 dunk contest...maybe that's what you're thinking of? In any case, I remember the dunk, it's another one of my favourites.

There was also a dunk from his rookie year, from a game against the Clippers. It's one of the top 10 dunks on the "100 Greatest Plays" video/DVD. He took off from about the dotted line, brought the ball down to his waist then brought it back up for a reverse dunk, in traffic. A far cry from the Kemp who played for the Magic in 2002/2003.

One of the best plays I can remember was that massive dunk right in Chris Gatling's face. The one where he pointed at Gatling on the ground afterwards. Apart from that the dunk on Antonie Carr and the reverse that Andrew just mentioned are up there.

The Reignman was awesome along side Payton on the 96 Sonics team. To bad he turned into Shawn Hemp and became overweight and sucked

It was Gatling. I just saw that dunk on one of my highlight tapes from the 90s.
