It's back to Earth for the Lakers after that big win over the Spurs and Kobe's big milestone. Blowout loss to the Pacers, Kobe with 21 points on 8/26 shooting.

Meanwhile, Jabari Parker left the Bucks/Suns game with a knee sprain. Hopefully, it's not too serious.

I wonder, do the Lakers really want to walk this path and lose the first round pick only to help out other team? Rebuilding has to start sooner the better. Losing first round pick will push back the plan further back.

The Lakers will have to think twice next time they want to win 3 straight. Right now there are 6 teams with worse record and 2 teams with same number of wins as the Lakers. You probably want to finish the season with bottom 3 record to be safe. Don't expect this to be a fun season for the Lakers.

The Lakers have a terrible conflict of interest. The players (Kobe, Swag Daddy, Booz Cruise) seem more interested in winning games than the owners do. It's a strange situation in La La land.
I think that the Lakers would be wise to draft a sure thing instead of a prospect with high potential. If they REALLY want Kobe to be able to even have a shot at winning a championship, they would be wise to draft a Harrison twin, or a Justise Winslow. They need to start gathering reinforcements if they even pray to have a shot at a Playoff spot,

I don't think the Lakers can truly start to rebuild until Kobe hangs it up, because he seems to feel he should be the alpha dog until the day he walks out the door. Fair enough, but it leaves the Lakers with a weak pitch to top tier free agents: "Come to Los Angeles and play second fiddle to the guy at the end of his career, who's gunning his way up the all-time scoring charts at a sub-40% clip". If Kobe's not willing to take the Tim Duncan approach, then it's basically an extended farewell tour for him, and a rough ride to bottoming out for the Lakers.

What do you guys think? The real issue is whether the Lakers can get top 5 pick or pick is gone to other team. At this pace, they're more than likely to lose the pick and looking at possibly even worse season next year.

The problem is TV rating and jacked up ticket price. Are the Lakers management willing to go distance and sit key players so they can tank better or keep money rolling in for the short term benefits?

I have a feeling Kobe's not going to sit because he simply doesn't win you too many game now days(rather hurts the team) so instead coach probably will tinker and constantly mess up the rotation in order to tank. Or ofc there may come time when Kobe decides to hang it up and sit rest of season out with mysterious back injury. 3rd possibility imo is Kobe playing his ass off till very end and retire after this season, least likely.

One way or the other the Lakers will probably get their top 5 pick imo. Maybe the league simply will give it to them even if they finish far outside bottom 5.

TV ratings are irrelevant, the Lakers signed a 20 year, $3.6 BILLION deal three years ago. And the Lakers, like the Knicks, can always charge outsized ticket prices because of the people who go to the games just to be seen.

Though it'd be funny to see if the Clippers somehow became the dominant Staples team in that regard.

We think alike then. He obviously won't win another ring.

As for the scoring record...it's a bit to far out for him. Given his body the last few years and teh fact his percentages will continue to fall as the season progresses (so will his minutes) he'll be lucky to catch Malone.

I did read that Lakers brass were trying to get him to sign another extension beyond next season, which would have him playing three more years. Apparently he hasn't given them any such commitment or indication that he's interested in continuing to play beyond next year, but you never know.
