I have already checked the game files with a friend who has the game and they are all correct with the correct filesizes.
I really hope I do not need to reinstall the game since this would mean a 15 hour download.

Are you sure you have Service Pack 1 installed for your Win7?
Also, could you go to Event Viewer (open start menu and type 'event' into search field, program called Event Viewer should pop up), Go to Windows Logs>Application section and look if there's any details for that crash (note the time of the crash)?
