Duff Beer Banned in Australia

They're at it again...

It’s a sad day for Australian Duff Beer lovers - the popular drink is being pulled from our shelves.

Springfield’s favourite beverage made it’s way to our shores back in May but it’s now been found to be in breach of the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code.

Basically they’re worried that it’s association with The Simpsons will make it attractive to young kids.

A board representing the code released the following statement:

"The association of The Simpsons with the product name and packaging is so strongly entrenched in Australian popular culture that the name and packaging will draw the attention of under 18 year olds. Measures to market the product without references to The Simpsons characters or images cannot be effective to overcome the strong and evident appeal of the product material to underage persons."

Meanwhile, sponsorships allow the prominent advertising of beer brands on sports uniforms, notably rugby league's State of Origin jerseys, something that "underage persons" are certainly interested in.

Wow, I didn't even know it was a real beer! I thought it was just a made up beer for the simpsons, which totally makes me want to give it to underage people more :P jk but now I do want to see if it's halfway decent

Tried it for the first time in Australia, bought a carton. It was actually pretty good and cheaper then most beers.

I thought it was alright when I tried it, more a novelty than anything else.

I kind of wish I did try it. It's just unfortunate that I think canned beer is one of the most disgusting drinks I've ever tasted, particularly when it starts to get warm.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of tinnies. If it's not on tap, bottles are far preferable to cans.

I'm pretty sure if can, tap, and bottled beer of the same brand were poured on a glass, settled at room temperature for a few minutes and you guys were to drink it not knowing the container it came from you wouldn't know the difference.

I'm pretty sure if I didn't know what source my glass of beer came from, how it tastes wouldn't be my major concern. In fact, it'd probably be a moot point, since I wouldn't drink the beer in the first place.

Order then served by a waitress then, preferably with a nice rack.

I ended up buying a slab from Dan Murphy's. I've actually never tried Fosters so I can't comment on that comparison, but like I said...yeah, it's alright.

I think I would, but we have largest estimated annual beer consumption per capita in the world, so there's that :D
