Harrington and Jackson swap teams

Postby Matt on Fri Jul 16, 2004 5:23 pm

The Indiana Pacers and Atlanta Hawks completed the trade Thursday which will send Al Harrington to the Hawks for a freshly signed Stephen Jackson, ESPN is reporting.

The trade helps both players, with Harrington tired of coming off the bench in Indiana and Jackson looking for security.

"Al made it very clear that he wanted to start," Bird said. "We had an opportunity to pick up a young man who fills a need on our team and we feel very honored. If you're going to get rid of somebody good, you better get somebody good in return and we did that."

Jackson, who averaged 18.1 points for the Hawks last season, can provide the consistent perimeter shooting the Pacers lacked last season.

"This is definitely the place where I wanted to be," Jackson said. "Just finally being able to be a part of it, being secure, being able to take care of my family and that I have another chance to get a championship, it's an ideal situation here. This is the perfect opportunity for me and I'm in the best position I could be."

I guess this makes the Pacers more dangerous now. That's 3 East teams that have made significant upgrades (Pistons, Pacers and Heat) and 2 that last some real talent (Nets and Cavs)

Pretty good deal. Harrington wanted out and the Hawks were able to get something in return for Jackson rather than simply losing him to free agency. As far as talent and fulfilling needs go, it isn't too bad a swap either.

It was...but this time it's official :D. I think both teams got a steal actually, SJax played very well during the season while the Pacers unclogged their 3/4 spots.

i like this trade for both sides as well. harrington gets his chance to prove he's more then just a valuable reserve and indiana was able to fill in a need while getting rid of disgruntled player

I had the same idea's, I would pick Jackson to start over Miller any day. (Miller of now that is...)

But I don't think it'll happen, the Pacers are all loyal to Reggie & vice-versa, he'll start.

That's what I think as well. Miller won't play much...maybe 20 minutes, a lot coming in the 4th. They'll save his legs for the playoffs and crunch time. I think Artest will play 38 mpg, leaving 38 mpg for Jackson, which I think he takes 28 of and gives the remaining 10 to Jones.

coz miller carry the team in his whole career. now it pacers time to give what is due to miller: respect and loyalty. as long as miller want to start they will start him even they have one of the best SG (T-mac, AI, Pierce and the one in lakers uniform???)

I agree with Mitcchy_Boy.
As long as Miller will stay in Indiana, he will start every game even if he plays only 10 minutes/game.

Yeps, that's the only reason Fgrep, respect & loyalty.

I wouldn't start Miller > Jackson, but you know Bird & Co...even if it is 10 minutes till a sub.

Miller will probally start but I really don't think he should.

Jackson probally would be a benifit for the team, in my opinion.

Yea I know, but he's got enough respect and loyalty, they're signing him while he's old, he stepped down last year in terms of taking shots, and he should step down to the bench now for the better of the team
