Better Performance For NBA 2K14

Postby PeterDaS4int1313 on Sat Oct 05, 2013 5:51 pm

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING
Ok so this post will show you have to get the:
1.HOW TO GET THE HIGHEST GRAPHICS POSSIBLE
2.THE MOST OUT OF YOUR CPU CORES
3.BETTER PERFORMANCE FOR ATI CROSSFIRE CARDS

FOR GRAPHIC CARD USERS PAY ATTENTION
You need a graphics card with at least 1024 gb video memory, if you have less i suggest you skip this part or you can try it.

this is my config settings

pay close attention to the maxtexturesize

I notice that the more I increased it the more the game looked better keep in mind if your card is not well cooled, It could overheat but if you have good temps or if you want to try it go right ahead

You will need to edit your config.cfg you can find this in your NBA 2K14 save folder, open with notepad.
PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP OF CONFIG.CFG THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK IF IT RUNS SLOW.

Code: Select all
VIDEOSETTING_ADAPTERINDEX = 0
VIDEOSETTING_WIDTH = 1920
VIDEOSETTING_HEIGHT = 1080
VIDEOSETTING_COLORDEPTH = 32
VIDEOSETTING_VSYNC = 1
VIDEOSETTING_REFRESHRATE = 60

VIDEOSETTING_STADIUMLOD = 1
VIDEOSETTING_CROWDDETAIL = 2

FOR ATI CROSSFIRE CARDS

Code: Select all
Get better performance up to 60fps in crossfire this will work with almost any game.

First off if u have amd processor thats multi core, dual or quad etc.

Download amd dual core optimizer for smoother gameplay.

make sure you update ur ati graphics drivers along with the amd profiles this is important.

if you have a creative x fi platinum sound card or extreme music sound card

download pax drivers google it. doin so will also boost ur performance

by about 40 to 60 percent in most cases.

no lets get back to crossfire: first thing go into catalyst control panel

and go to gaming 3d application settings

put texture filter to high quality turn of surface format optimization,

leave antialiasing method at multisampling because this is an hell of a performance hit.

turn opengl triplebuffering off i know it's helps sometimes

but i notice games are more stable and smoother without it lately.

leave tesselation on use application settings.

now the important part, click add on the upper left now search for the

Nba2k14.exe where ever you installed it on your computer and add it.

if anything pops up click yes it's ok to. now u should see nba2k14 in the list

you have to click on it in order to change settings. it will be highlighted when selected

now scroll down to where it says Crossfire Mode it will be in default mode change that and

click on use amd pre-defined profile you can type in the search

or click application profile to put list in alphabetical order to find what your looking for.

now look for nba2k12 click it and click save and then click yes.

right now i find it better using fifa13 profile but i get 60 while playing and 45-55 on time outs this is normal.

your game should run alot better now.

update: in your config file change and put -20 if it doesn't help performance change it back make a backup just in case

VIDEOSETTING_PLAYERLOD = -20
VIDEOSETTING_STADIUMLOD = -20

MORE OUT OF YOUR CPU CORES

GO INTO YOUR CONFIG.CFG FILE OPEN NIT IN NOTEPAD

THIS IS FOR QUAD CORE CPU's IF YOU HAVE MORE CORES PUT THE NUMBER Of CORES YOU HAVE JUST REPLACE THE 4'S THIS GAVE ME A HELL OF A BOOST IN PERFORMANCE AND I KIND OF ADDED MORE CLOTH LOGICAL THREAD JUST TO EXPERIMENT WITH IT I THINK THERES MORE MOVEMENT IN THE JERSEY'S BUT KINDA HARD TO TELL.

HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU GUYS

Code: Select all
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 4
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = 4
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_2 = 4
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_3 = 4
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_4 = 4
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_5 = 4
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_6 = 4
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_7 = 4
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_8 = 4

MAIN_LOGICAL_THREAD = 8 for this i multiplied my cores by 2 (4x2=8) each core has 2 threads so i have read
GPU_LOGICAL_THREAD = 5 My graphics card is GDDR5 so i put 5

i was able to max out my graphics and everythings still smooth

and i run in window mode that helps also in getting better performance

4 Cores put =4

6 Cores put = 6

Better graphics

Code: Select all
VIDEOSETTING_PLAYERLOD = 4
VIDEOSETTING_STADIUMLOD = 1
VIDEOSETTING_CROWDDETAIL = 2
VIDEOSETTING_SHADERDETAIL = 5
VIDEOSETTING_SIDELINECHARACTER = 0

VIDEOSETTING_PARTICLEFFECT = 2

also if you have a 1024mb graphics card you can raise your texture resolution.

texture resolution basically just eats up your memory on your graphics card if you have 1024mb of memory u can utilize the amounts not being used for nba 2k12 unlike Rage which uses alot more

VIDEOSETTING_MAXTEXTURESIZE = 4096 is default but you can raise it in increment by adding 512 to that number and see how far you can push it without any lags or you can add using 256 if 512 is too much

After saving config.cfg, right-click on it then PROPERTIES and check READ-ONLY on attributes.

Very useful. Thanks. But why some of the settings keep going back to original values like these
Yours
VIDEOSETTING_PLAYERLOD = 4
VIDEOSETTING_STADIUMLOD = 1
VIDEOSETTING_CROWDDETAIL = 2
VIDEOSETTING_SHADERDETAIL = 5
VIDEOSETTING_SIDELINECHARACTER = 0

go back to original values after i go back and check them after i exit/quit the game
default/original
VIDEOSETTING_PLAYERLOD = 0
VIDEOSETTING_STADIUMLOD = 1
VIDEOSETTING_CROWDDETAIL = 2
VIDEOSETTING_SHADERDETAIL = 1
VIDEOSETTING_SIDELINECHARACTER = 0

is it possible that some of those values are too high? 1st I thought that my video card settings had something to do with it because i have ani-aliasing mode and anisotropic filtering on "override application settings" but it wasn't that because i tested it by switching to "use application settings" but no luck.

it can definitely handle it. I got 1GB. So that's not a problem.

Main gain should be in FPS (apart from the "Texture size" the changes deal mostly with redistributing the processing load more evenly).

So, if i have 2 core processor I should set the numbers like this ??? :

Code: Select all
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 2
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = 2
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_2 = 2
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_3 = 2

Code: Select all
MAIN_LOGICAL_THREAD = 2

.. and anybody can confirm that this special setting make a difference?

Well, I have AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Radeon HD 7700
4gb of ram
and with all NBA 2k I get lag when player settings are high (jerseys are moving). Is it normal?

Yes. You need quad core processor for 60 fps at high player settings. Your videocard good, processor has not enough cores.

What are you talkin' about... I have core2duo processor , players at high settings and everything is smooth, no lags. You don't need quad core to play smooth.

I tried different MAXTEXTURESIZE values, including the one you have there, and that changes nothing at all. The game looks exactly the same and I'm getting the same fps for it (I did make the file "read only", so the changes stuck).

I don't know. Maybe it individually. Before i upgrade to quad core processor, i had core2duo and similar lags in NBA2K games that atrak5[LTU] have.

Pretty useless topic sorry.

The maxtex setting is already at it's highest setting and does nothing when increased.

You've also got the CPU threads wrong. You DO NOT want to put your number in every line. The game is optimised to use a separate thread for each task. What you've suggested just defeats the purpose of your high end CPU.

Then other things like turning on the intel gpu setting simply because you see HDR...

Yes, but 1024 gb of memory wouldn't hurt. :wink: It would make a great ramdisk.

Welcome to the forums. :)
