Shaq to the Heat

Postby twolvezfanfoever on Sun Jul 11, 2004 8:28 am

Shaq has supposedly ok'd a deal for him to go to Miami for Caron B,Grant, and Odom. The Lakers are gonna have no choice but to accept it.And shaq has said he would sign an extension with the Heat.

Im just happy he in the East and away from my Wolves.
But him and Wade, thats gonna be a good combo for the next couple of years

Hmm, him ok'ing it doesnt mean much if the management doesn't go with it, but it'll probably happen.

Yay, I'll probably catch a game of Shaq. I'll be flying to Miami next year. My best friend is studying there & asked me to go study there, we could be roomies. (I'm thinking about it..) but I'll be there for sure just to check out his pad.

I was born there too, nice...Shaq & Wade...hmm championships? I don't know. Playoffs? Yeah.

Van Gundy knows what he has to do to keep Shaq happy + Riley is always around.

I'll be rooting for Miami in the East.

Guess that's pretty good news for alot of people, Miami for one (duh), Lakers (they'll probably get back Kobe now), Kobe (he gets his team)...who else?

Oh, the rest of the whole Western Conference. The Kings must be wiping the sweat off their brows at this moment, why only the Kings? Whole of the Western Conference must be doing that. Coaches included, that's a few games less they have to worry about how to slow that ...[thing] down.

The Heat are reluctant to give up Butler, but it might be what's necessary. He's worth more than a future first (rumored to be a substitute for him)...

Finally Shaq won't whine about not getting his All-Star starting spot because China has over a billion people

Anyways.. not a bad move by Miami. They definitely have a stronger team now.

They might not get Butler, I think they'll get picks. Who knows..

If they don't get Butler, just replace Butler at the 3 with George.

Kobe's got what he wants and what suits his style of play, a running game. Fast break-up tempo game.

+ they've got inside rebounding in Grant and he doesn't demand the ball as much.

*sigh* It'll take some time to get used to...but it's all good.

Rock on LA.

Edit: If it does turn out this way, expect Payton to have a much better year compared to last season. He's a driver/running player...spot up shooting isn't his speciality.

That's no excuse for missing so many shots though, as Magic said, if you're given an open shot, you should be able to knock it down.

Anywho, that's in the past...he'll have a better statistical year. (Y)

The next season of NBA will definitely be worth watching. There'll be teams with new duos and I'm especially looking forward to watching Yao Ming and T-Mac play together.

This would be a nice situation for Shaq but Miami are giving up core guys which might make them a little thin... If it works out well though, we could be seeing Shaq V Yao in the finals :) And Shaq back with Eddie Jones (y)

Probably Udonis Haslem will start at PF...or maybe a FA (Swift?).

Miami would be giving up a group of guys who might make a much more formidable force in a few years for a player who should make them a much more formidable force for the next few years. It's a good move by the Lakers to get Shaq out of the East, while the lack of big men in the conference bodes well for Shaq's health, as he himself noted.

The Lakers could probably make better deals on paper, but it seems no one else is willing to break up their core and Shaq seems to be keen on this deal, and to get out of LA. LA shouldn't have to be exploring trade options for Shaq, but since it has come to that, I think it's a pretty good deal.

How could they not?? j/k! :D

I think that the trade is a bit uneven for a start, but then, It kinda works out. First, the Heat needed something big, something that would get them past the first round of the p/o's. So they offer Shaq for Odom, Butler and Grant. Sounds a bit one sided doesn't it? Well, not really.

LAKERS:
They get 3 good players in return for a player who's at his prime, but yet, he's only got a few years left in him. Then they get to keep Kobe with new coach, Rudy T. Odom and Grant will then have a good chance at a run for the Finals, with new players, it might help- it might not. But, everyone gets space to do their own thang. And they all get a chance to lead and perform like no one's seen before!

HEAT:
They get rippped off- or do they? They get Shaq... Shaq in return for a player who is a great PF in Odom, Butler who is still developing, and Grant, who has experience but is undersized and gets beaten by bigger men. But, as we saw last season, there were some rookies who came through and showed some excellent skills. Haslem is one, who will most likley replace Odom at the PF. Wade will be given a chacne to play the SG spot while Alston (if staying) will start at the PG. That only leaves the SF, that they can fill with a FA or maybe another trade. Either way, Miami is coming, just like Detroit did.

That's my analysis, anyone wanna add something, go ahead...

well, nothing is offical till July 14th, but it seems "offical" now
3 days till its a really done deal though. If Kobe steps up and say "I'd like for Shaq to remain in LA with me and I will pass him the ball since he is the most dominate player and I respect his talent" or some stuck up stuff like that then this might all change..

anyway Shaq's Agent said Shaq is headed to Miami so its a done deal more than likely.

Well it depends on what you mean by official. I'd bet a good deal of $$ that it's done right now, but if you want official (ie, on NBA.com, the respective teams' websites), then no it's not. It's done though. Everything above was just rumors, speculation, and likely possibilities. This is the deal. It just hasn't been announced besides ESPN.

So we're giving up Odom, Grant, Caron, well all I can say is Bye Bye Odom
We were hoping to build the next KG in you, except with better handles, but I guess not.

Anyways, Wade and Shaq baby!
Eddie Jones should just clear the way, and Rasual Butler better be re-signed.

PG - Wade / Sign Somone (Damon Jones?)
SG - Jones / Wright
SF - R.Butler / Wright
PF - Haslem / Allen
C - Shaq / Beasley or something.

Its gonna hurt obviously.
replacing shaq with a guy listed at 6'9(prolly really 6'7) is not gonna cut it out west.
I wouldnt be surprised to see him traded almost straight away.

Odom,Butler,Kobe(?),Payton is going to be awesome to watch.
Im hopin Kobe does stay, if not, then it will give rush the chance to maybe get some shine.
but without kobe, this new laker team, wont be much.

I honestly think kobe will excel with a team like this, more teammates to trust, and Butler and Odom are good all-round players, along kobe, and payton at times.

im lookin forward to it, and watchin shaq destroy the east big men will be fun.

Honestly, I think the Heat will have to add some players to make themselves a top team in the east IF this trade were to go through. This trade takes away youth and depth from the Heat. Riley will have to look to free agency....and he knows it. Most definitely, he will seek some 3 point sharp shooters.

If the Lakers are OK with making this deal, I'd say Kobe has given his word that he will re-sign.

I think Kobe's intention all along is to remain a Laker once he knows Shaq is gone. He's just making LA management sweat it.

i think Kobe will stay. He now has a good supporting cast, no Shaq, and doesn't have to relocate, will get top $$$.

This however deteriorates the Heat. They get Shaq but give up 3 starters. They also lost Rafer Alston.

Looks like East has 3 legit contenders so far, Pistons, Heat and Pacers...with one more team possibly emerging, most likely Nets if they can get everyone back though
