KG and Rivers to the Clippers?

Indeed. If this trade shouldn't be happening, then Pat Riley shouldn't have ever gone to the Heat. Basically the same situation and terms.

Doc had a clause in his contract that stated he couldn't coach another team for 5 years if he didn't finish out his contract.

That's a pretty harsh clause.

So, I wonder what's next for KG if he can't join Rivers in Los Angeles? It seems like he was pretty keen on going wherever Rivers did and with his no-trade clause, he's either staying or only going somewhere he absolutely wants to go.

I dont understand how a coach can be traded and I feel like keeping it that way. Must be some weird technicality that wont make me feel much wiser to know about it.

Clippers and Celtics probably going to have a third team join the trade for KG and present it to Stern that IT'S A SEPARATE DEAL FROM THE COACH TRADE.

I dont understand how a coach can be traded and I feel like keeping it that way. Must be some weird technicality that wont make me feel much wiser to know about it.

It's not a trade, as such. It's more a matter of resigning their position to take another job, with their current team getting some compensation for agreeing to void their contract and waive any non-compete clauses.

The Celtics letting Rivers out of his contract, the Clippers signing him to be their head coach and trading a pick to the Celtics are technically three different deals/transactions, but all part of the same agreement/negotiations.
