Boozer to Jazz

Fri Jul 09, 2004 7:47 am

68 million for 6 years...Unbelievable...Its on front page of espn.com

Fri Jul 09, 2004 7:51 am

Now this is STRAIGHT UP WRONG!!! He told the Cavs that he was gonna come back.Him,King James and Big Z were suppose to be the new cornerstone of Cleveland. And he leaves because of money. Now Im pissed off for reals.Thats no loyalty at all. That greediness to the 3rd degree. And once again, another overpaid decent player.I admit, thats my boi now cuz he showed me that he was for real. But it was only for one year.He hasnt done it consistantly. If I was casual fan,not diehard like I am,I would stop watchin cuz of that.Thats f***** up for reals.I wanna know how Lebron feel about that.I think he would leave the Cavs if someone gave him 170 million.Anybody would leave their team for that much.Damn shame. And noboby better not go against me on this one at all.

Fri Jul 09, 2004 7:55 am

lol i wouldve like for him to stay in Cleveland. He wont look right with the Jazz. Next Karl Malone?

Fri Jul 09, 2004 7:58 am

that wasnt necessary. If they have an interview with Boozer soon,I wanna know what he gonna say his reason for leavin Cleveland. You and I know he gonna come up wit a bullshit excuse.Dont nobody say they leavin a team because of money

Fri Jul 09, 2004 8:35 am

Whoa, whoa let's not point fingers at Boozer just yet. I've heard rumors that the Cavs management backed out of teir verbal agreement and wanted to lowball Boozer. If this is true, and knowing Paxson's track record, then there are going to be some really pissed of Cavs fan. Either way, Big Z and his fat contract is traded, or Paxson I think will be gone sooner or later.

Fri Jul 09, 2004 8:37 am

FIRE HIM NOW.He gonna regret this move sooner or later

Fri Jul 09, 2004 8:42 am

Wait, didn't the Cavaliars opt Boozer out. Wasn't it a team option. Paxson is a dumbass, Boozer did what everyone else would have done. Take the cash and go.

Well they did and for a reason. There was a verbal agreement that would pay boozer more (around MLE) assuming he did re-sign. There are rumors that the Cavs FO wanted to pay him less, or maybe Boozer just turned around and backstabbed the Cavs (they would'have had him for 800k AND had his Bird's rights).

Fri Jul 09, 2004 8:45 am

Sounds like both Boozer and Paxson are at fault for this. If I was a Cav fan, I'd be pissed off. At Boozer, at Paxson at anything that breaths and moves.

I have to say though, atleast Utah didn't overpay him. I think that is the right price for Boozer.

Fri Jul 09, 2004 9:08 am

I pretty much am afraid for my cats life. I should have never named Boozie... Duke players never do us any good why did I think this would be different.

Fri Jul 09, 2004 9:10 am

WOW! There's a fiar bit of negativity floating around here. My view...

From what I can understand, the Cavs let him become a free agent based on the assumption that he would re-sign. I have also read that he was going to explore his options.

Everyone is so quick to have a go at him, but think about what the teams do. They trade players to suit their own needs. Very rarely do they demonstrate any kind of loyalty, always looking for the best deal right now. Yes there have been some exceptions, but for the most part it's true. If teams were loyal, there wouldn't be nearly as much trading going on. Players wouldn't need to 'explore' free ageny because they would feel as though they will receive fair compensation from their team. But it doesn't work that way.

And what about Boozer? Apparently he was going to receive around $40 million from Cleveland. The Jazz offered him (apparently) $68 odd million for the same duration (?). From a financial standpoint, it's not really a tough decision. Sure, there are other factors that come into it (PT, team members, etc). But if a Team is run on a financial basis, why can't a player decide on the same scale?

Yes, the Cavs had a young, solid and potentially great team with Boozer in the lineup. But now so do Utah. Potentailly great. Perhaps later on Boozer will regreat this decision, but then again it may be proove to be the right move.

Before you crucify Boozer, consider all sides......

Fri Jul 09, 2004 9:13 am

Boozer sold out dammit. Who is lebron gonna get to back him up now?

Fri Jul 09, 2004 9:21 am

UH yeah we are crucifying him because he was quoted by multiple sources asaying he would return to Cleveland and that he had reached a verbal agreement with them. He also said that he wanted this to be his home and how he loved the community. Cleveland is a hell of a long way from Salt Lake City now isn't it. Home verbal agreement... Bastard.

But we're only getting one side of the story. I'm defending Boozer here or anything, but we don't know yet who backed out of the verbal agreement. There's speculation Paxson wanted to lowball him so Boozer got mad and started shopping around.

BTW, what a great summer LBJ and Boozer will have in Athens.

Fri Jul 09, 2004 10:02 am

I really hope this doesn't go through! The Cavs had something going on and they were gonna dominate sooner or later! This isn't good!
