Pistons lose Okur to Jazz

Postby Matt on Tue Jul 06, 2004 9:50 pm

The Pistons are on the clock for restricted free-agent center Mehmet Okur.

The Utah Jazz and Okur agreed Monday on terms of an offer sheet, believed to be for five years and $50 million.

The Pistons will have 15 days to match, beginning July 14, the first day free agents can officially sign with teams.

If they do not match the Jazz’s offer, the Pistons would lose Okur

wow, he gets $10 mill......im sad and happy to see him go
sad because he's a talented big guy and happy because Milicic will see some time

i don't think Pistons will match, they'll resign Rasheed probly to a 4,5 yr deal, but i'll bet he won't make it past 3 yrs w/o being traded

oh well, i wish him luck in Utah, Utah is going Euro now...they got some white ballas now :D

I read somewhere, I think it was at RealGM, that if the Pistons lose Okur they'd offer McDyess a contract with all sorts of incentives.

If they do lose Okur, the Pistons may look to sign Antonio McDyess, the former All-Star power forward with a recent history of knee problems.

i like the sound of that, McDyess can maybe still play some good ball....

I think he'll stay. They need to resign Arroyo though.

10 million? isn't that a little too much? unless he turns into an allstar, i really dont think he should be making that. they should save those kind of money for AK47 and carlos arroyo.

Arroyo got a qualifying offer... Making him restricted

What about Adonal Foyle? 41 million per 5 years... Now that's overpaid

They have a verbal agreement...

Good pickup. I think Okur is a good fit in Utah w/Sloan there. It is a little bit too much IMO, but not a lot because he did play wel during the regular season. Plus, he's used to winning, which is a big theme...

I have no idea what Mullin was thinking when he signed Foyle to a contract starting a 6.5 million and having him make 10 million in the 6th year. Dude...

All-white team hey? Larry Bird might want to join the Jazz Management!
Jokes!

Good or Okur and the Jazz....Jazz are trying to get Ginobli...think of the team if they do:

C: I'm blank there!
PF: AK-47
SF: Giricek
SG: Manu
PG: Arryo...

Monstertag? :D

BTW, no way Manu goes to Utah... He will either stay put in San Antonio or head to Denver IMO.

Dumars wouldn’t comment on Mehmet Okur’s agreeing to a six-year, $50 million offer sheet with the Jazz. He said he still hasn’t heard from Okur’s agent, Marc Fleisher.

The Pistons are not expected to match that offer, even if Wallace opts to sign elsewhere.

The Pistons have had talks with free agent Antonio McDyess and are planning on talking to Memphis free agent Stromile Swift and Boston free agent Mark Blount. All three will be offered a contract starting at $5 million (the mid-level exception).

I'd like Swift out of those 3
Looks like Okur is out though, 10mill is overpaying, and Dumars won't do that

Yep, Pisstons likely won't match the Jazz offer anyways, even if Rasheed leaves, I read today (sorry no link)

Ginobili would start but his chances for being in a competitive team are better there in the Spurs, plus the team has lots of cap space too... If they don't sign good players now, there's always next season

He rejected any offer he received, he re-signed with the Spurs, thus logically, he rejected all offers made to him besides that of the Spurs. :)
