how about at the last second of a game and you are down by one with seconds left on the clock and while you are trying to shoot a buzzer beater we can see the ball going in slow motion to the hoop sry for my bad english and in career mode how about interviews between half time and fights between players lol ohhh yeah and how about in career mod we can see twitter fights

Here's a couple random ideas i had:

How about retired/current players who had the floor general sig skill popping up as head and assistant coaches?
Former PG headcoaches like Avery Johnson/Jacque Vaughn gives some slight boost to the starting PG?

If players could come back after retirement, it would add a little spice to the game, I think. But it shouldn't be as common as trades or whatnot; maybe just about 3 in 100 players should be available to do so. Haha, just an idea. :D

If even half of the goals you guys have for this mod can be achieved then it would instantly become my favourite ever mod in my entire 10+ years at this site. I'm actually getting giddy just imagining the possibilities. Association mode has always been my favourite mode throughout my basketball video gaming days, but has always been neglected by the companies who are trying hard to produce games that sell (fair enough i suppose) which has left me feeling generally dissatisfied and wanting something deeper and more realistic.

So here's some of the things that comes to mind for a project like this. (It's not player personalities ideas but alas...)

- The integrity of winning seems to have no bearing in the game. If the Clippers win the title, then no way Chris Paul declines his player option and then signs with a losing team in free agency. A 30 year old 6th man will choose to sign with a playoff team over a losing team, whereas a 24 year old 6th man would choose to sign with a team where he can have the opportunity to start or have lots of money, regardless of win%. Teams should have an 'integrity' rating, that is dictated by their winning ways (maybe their win% over the past 3 or 5 years? (random idea, maybe integrity can be split into long-term and short-term. Short-term integrity is based on their win% over the past 3 years. Long-term integrity is based on their win% based on the past 10 years.)). Team integrity affects FA decisions, but also can have other perks (like maybe negotiation power? or more merch sales? ticket sales? or more likely to lure star players or something?)

- Teams seem to have no sense of direction when they trade. This can be fixed by applying a "team direction" attribute to teams. Kind of like player personality attribute, it dictates the teams ambitions in transactions. Team directions include:
1. Win-now phase (focused on short term winning, i.e. more likely to stack their rosters with vets, spend cap, trade draft picks away, etc, more focused on basketball strategy than economic strategy. - Think Lakers, Spurs, Boston, Heat, Mavs, you know the teams.
2. Rebuild phase (weak teams that are selling up shop. Trade aging stars/vets, more interested in draft picks/youth/assets and cap flexibility. They're looking to shed their skin and start fresh. - Think Orlando, Charlotte, probably Boston soon, probably Mavs soon etc
3. On the upward (Not sure what else to call it. These teams are the ones loaded with maybe 1 or 2 or 3 young stars, but the overall team isn't elite yet. They're trying to build around a guy or 2 and take the team to the next level. These guys sort of in between "rebuild" and "win-now". Their intentions share traits from both directions. They want to reserve flexibility but also try to build a winning team on the basketball court. They've already "shed their skin" in rebuild phase and now they're ready to take what they've built to the next level. They're looking to trade some of their young assets for a stud. - Think Houston, Cleveland, Minnesota, Philly, the OKC of 3 years ago, the Clippers before the signed Chris Paul, Memphis last year, Portland before Roy/Oden went down, etc
4. All Business (Not sure what else to call it. These are the teams that are less focused on the basketball strategy and more focused on generating dollars. Their owners see their teams as a brand. They're looking to improve their team's integrity, as to improve their brand. They're all about marketing, and all they want essentially is bums on seats. These are the teams that will trade for a highlight reel player who can score frequently but doesn't play defense or win games. These are the teams that will sign a player just so they can sell his jersey. They're more interested in name power than basketball ability. They're more interested in what a player can bring to the merch income than the actual basketball court, and often find that their teams are a directionless rabble. They often make moves that appear dumb to the general public. These teams will do anything within their power to stay under lux cap. (We'd have to create some sort of advantage to generating merch sales and stuff like that though for this particular attribute to make sense.) - Think Sacramento, Phoenix, Toronto, Detroit in the past, Milwaukee in the past, Washington in the past, Atlanta to an extent.

^I'm not sure exactly WHAT would dictate the CPU's teams "direction". Maybe their overall ranking? Maybe their W/L record? Maybe their place in the power rankings? Maybe their team's top 7 players ages vs the ovrl rating vs salary? Either way it would have to be a dynamic attribute that changes every once in a while based on their roster/results.

- I don't know if there is a way to customize player progression, but it would be sweet if potential was more likely to be fulfilled IF THEY'RE GIVEN OPPORTUNITY. A rookie should not improve 4-5 points in the following offseason if they didn't get any playing time. But a rookie that was given 20-30mpg should (if they have a potential rating that allows for it). This makes player progression more of a "farming" thing. If you give a young player the necessary game experience, he will develop much faster than if he was limited to just training in the practice facilities. As it stands now, ANY player with a potential rating over 80 is going to end up being a star, which saturates the league in the future full of talent. In the NBA we all know that there is no such thing as a sure-thing. There are surprise stars and there are surprise busts. There are no busts in 2k.

That's all i got for now. I might brainstorm player personalities a bit later, but i just wanted to get the stuff i said above off my chest first.

Don't look for one. It'd be these plus the mentalities you suggested above. And not just current salary but long term salary situation. And past records and finishes.

You just have to conceptualize a formula then place the results. For theoretical sake let's take part of your suggestions above. And suggest teams that want to win now, get closer, tread water, add pieces and blow up things. You could setup something to factor in everything and then output that team A gets 75, B 55, etc. and it says to these teams "okay, look for a star" or "okay, call up the Knicks" or whatever.

If possible maybe change the Names on the Drills. (Dribbling will be like Tim Hardaway's Dribble Camp. etc.) But that would be not exactly working out with Legends, its the only way I can think this can be done lol

Retired players returning, how to determine?

Money problems based on real life? Chasing championship?

If you could make half of this work, that would be amazing :bowdown:

While at it, how about fixing the substitution method, there's way too much hockey like subs, changing the whole linup happends at least once a game, 2k12 was way better about that, although they has that bug where when a player got injured or ejected his sub would change after every game stop, and it used to be a bench warmer instead of the 6th man. Hope you get what I'm saying here.

This is a extremely awesome project (Y)

I would like to add some fundamental Ideas if they would be possible to implement.

Olympic games Association mode- every four years all stars that are american will be in team USA depending on how many all star apparences they made in the last 4 years overseas players would be put into there respected country's if there are not enough in each team players would be generated. if a country wins on each player from the NBA representing it they will will an Olympic metal and it will appear on there stats

Teams Changing state,expansion teams Association mode- teams will have to sign with there city to stay in there city if they cant afford to stay there they will have to move to another state in the country ex: New Orleans Hornets just signed a clause the the City of New Orleans to stay in the city threw 2024. another factor is Arena damage if the Arena is not suited for fans and players to be in it. the team/city that they are in would have to pay for another Arena to build if the City love the team and has enough money the build another arena the arena will be built if the team is not liked by the city the team would not be funded and would have to move to another city.
Team expansions would be just having the option to create a new team wile in Association mode and add the team to either to the east our west but after you make the team add players from the fa add a staff coach ex. this should be done on a off season wile expansion teams should not be made in mid season.

Coaches eventually get better after getting experience: Ok this has been annoying to me for a wile when you pick up a rookie coach ex: a coach with horrible stats F in everything. they never get better even Coaches that are already there they don't get better our worst in anything. that is why I be leave there should be some type of system to be able to make the Coach pool more enjoyable I think depending on a coaches history wins losses championship won years as a coach should have some play into this.


Some of this might be impossible but just wanting to give out some Ideas (Y)

If you're referring to my post...I meant sliders inside the tool...? (If I misunderstood anything or if anything's not feasible, I apologize)

So then you can adjust the extent of the affect of say,
-the effect of injuries on potential
-the effect of your locker room on players
-the effect of player emotions on FA signings/trades...
-perhaps some of the in game settings like the effect of potential itself can be tuned down

I think people might be requesting you to turn up or turn down certain things if you don't put these in.

Hope my post is constructive and not wishy washy.

we could modify coach stats (Y)

bfrombleacher, other people were talking about in-game sliders. Everything in the tool will be customizable ideally.


I'm not shutting down ideas I dont like btw, keep them coming even if they can't happen.

Can you have for player like Kobe who get injured (small injuries) but that doesn't bother them at all when playing? I mean, not affecting their shooting, but rather slightly athleticism?

Ratings are affected by the type of injury, so that would require studying how each injury affects the player and allowing you to pick one that only affects athleticism. We can't change how injuries affect each rating, that's hard-coded. We could only reverse the effect by editing the player's ratings, but then that's too much trouble for too little gain.

Thought so. Thanks for explanation. ;) One more idea - if, for example, Westbrook tears his ACL/MCL could you make it that his athleticism takes a (rating) hit and he becomes more prone to tearing ACL/MCL once again (think Michael Redd) if he comes back when he has 'yellow' injury in in-game roster.

we could probably set it up for MyCareer players that the uniforms swap out based on the day the game is played and such....but you can do either with the REDitor or swapping out the iff files. Since this is mostly Association focused, and we can choose uniforms in that mode, that would be low priority.
