Latest URB-Specific Update: February 14th - Version 1.2.1

To view my slider sets, please visit my official thread at Operation Sports: http://www.operationsports.com/forums/nba-2k-sliders/588315-nba-2k13-eccentric-edition-all-star-slider-set.html#post2044369750

The aim of this slider set is to make the gameplay more difficult and varied while providing an authentic NBA experience. The user will have to adjust throughout the game, both on offense and on defense, in order to be successful. Some games will come down to the last shot, others will be decided by half-time, and each game will feel different than the last.

In order to expedite the update process (and save myself some un-needed frustration and annoyance), I will unfortunately only be posting slider-updates in my thread over at Operation Sports. I will always bump this thread when an update is available (as well as updating the version number of my slider set and the date it was posted, below), and I still STRONGLY ENCOURAGE your feedback, criticisms, and questions here in this thread. But other than that, this post will simply serve as a host for the link to my OS slider thread, and as a way to check if you have the latest update. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause any of you!

Important Note: I will NOT be uploading a settings file for others to download. The reason being that I plan to update these sliders regularly and people can set all of their other settings the way they want to without having to go through and change everything every time. Since many updates will only consist of a few slider changes, it is a waste of time to download, extract, copy/paste, load up the game, and then change all of your other settings to suit your needs before you can play a game. Simply put these values in manually, and check back every few days for a new update!

Any feedback is very much appreciated, as any help I can get expedites the fine-tuning process. However, be sure to keep the criticism as constructive and informative as possible. Try to point out what you are seeing too much of (ex. The AI attacks the basket too often), what you're not seeing enough of (ex. The AI does not go to the post often enough), etc.

Also, I noticed that a user here has uploaded a version of my sliders in the downloads section of this site. That download is for Version 1.0A of this slider set, and is therefore outdated. I highly recommend using the version posted in this thread and NOT the version in the downloads section. If anyone would like to upload a settings file with the updated sliders posted in this thread, feel free to do so. However, be warned: I tend to update my sliders quite frequently, so any files uploaded may quickly become obsolete!

Alright, enough reading. Enjoy my sliders!

I can't imagine playing with User Timing for Shooting, and I wonder how changing it to Real Player % would skew results.

I think true shooting percentage just isn't as involving for the player as it is with shot stick timing. But its a personal prefrence, its kinda hard to say what's better...

In my experience, once you learn to time a certain player's shot, you start shooting at way too high a % with that player. When you frequently use the same team, you start to do this with most of the entire team. The ratings for players' shooting suddenly becomes, at best, much less important. Real Shooting % brings the ratings more into play, and it becomes about finding open looks and good opportunities. It's definitely a matter of preference, which is why I'm curious on how these sliders work with it. Anybody have stat screens from games they can post to see what results look like?

But the thing is that CPU stil calculates how good the shot selection is and you can have perfect timing and still miss. Its not just about timing, you still have to play smart... :) But I think that you could use these sliders on real player % with no problem... Maybe I will try it myself :).

Just tried one game with real player percentage and gotta say it plays great... Try it out, unfortunately I didn't take any screens for stats...

As Onisak pointed out, these sliders work well with Real Player %, but I prefer Shot Stick Timing as it lets the user have more of an impact on the outcome. The defense, time left on the clock, momentum, etc. can all affect the user and his/her own timing on the jumpshot, and I feel that that adds a LOT to the gameplay.

If you are seeing too high of a shooting percentage when using Shot Stick Timing, simply DECREASE the user Consistency and you will start missing more jumpshots regardless of your timing.

Glad to see you made your way over to NLSC Eccentricmeat. I gave your sliders props in this forum before you posted. I have been using these sliders for a while now and they play just as well with real shot % also, for anyone thats wondering. I hate to rate peoples hard work but i will say these are the best sliders for 2k13 on a consistent bases.

Good to see you in here Eccentric, sorry I haven't be active in your OS thread but since I didn't have the console version I couldn't help you out much. Did you grab the PC version yet so you can get some of the mods people have developed?

Of course! I'm running most of the mods recommended in the URB v5 thread, all the CF packs I could find, the SJ1414 Global, etc.

Any other mods you would recommend?

I don't know what mods are recommended in the URB Thread, but ones I'm looking out for:

iamLillard is almost done with his Ultimate Jersey Pack project for each team.
Sixers85 is working on stadiums/courts, he make the TNT Logos I had in my screens in OS

Those are the biggest ones I'm waiting on at the moment.

Agree, the best sliders for 2K13, congrats! :applaud:

EccentricMeat could you please give us a hint about what is the secret in matching sliders with player's tendencies in the roster file and why your slider doesn't work with other roster files e.g. URB 2006-2007 roster?

It may not be what you want to hear, but the "secret" is just a lot of guess-work, trial and error, 50% knowledge and 50% luck.

I haven't played with any non-current rosters, so I don't know what differences there are between URB 2012-2013 and URB 2006-2007. Are the Coach Profile edits from the current roster not present in the 06-07 one? What are the differences in gameplay between current and "classic" rosters?

I don't know for sure, I wasn't happy with 2K13 from the beginning and I didn't want to waste my time with it the way I did last year with 2K12, I am big 2K11 fan you know. :) As far as I know Coach Profile doesn't solve everything so I guess you/we have to edit every player's attributes and...here my question applies: do you modify their fastbreak/attack the basket values or what? I wouldn't mind playing around with some editing but I'm sure the Reditor will come out soon and the real patching will start in our community.

I try not to edit Coach Profiles too much because it's EXTREMELY hard to find a balance between balanced gameplay and maintaining each individual team's identity. Once you get into trying to make over-arching Coach Profile changes, teams start to play far too similarly for my taste.

These sliders work perfectly with the current URB v5 rosters though, and the only changes I noticed in the Coach Profiles was that the Run Plays, Crash Boards, and Fastbreak sliders were all set to 0. Now, I'm sure that my console pre-patch Coach Profile edits would work well with URB's older rosters (such as those 2006-2007 rosters). But if the 06-07 roster already has the Coach Profile edits I just mentioned, then I'm not sure why my sliders are working poorly with it.

@EccentricMeat
What is your average FGA on 12 minute quarters?

It's been my experience on the couple of 12 min quarter games with your sliders I get 90-100 something which is not realistic.

Just so you know I am use to playing on 9 minute quarters in myplayer mode but I was wanting to switch to 12 on a new association i am about to start but not if I am going to constantly have 90+ FGA

I average between 75 and 85 FGA per game with 12 minute quarters (as does the CPU). I'm not sure how you're getting so many FGA, but that's mostly based off of your playstyle. If you play an up-tempo style on offense, it's absolutely realistic to get over 90 FGA per game. Or, if your defense constantly gives up easy buckets, you'll probably get a lot of FGA as well. Or the last possibility is that you and the CPU are not getting enough free throw attempts per game.

Could you post a picture of a team stats page after one your games? That way I'll be able to tell what's going on.

This is created team I am playing with is basically the houston rockets.

I did not take shot of 2nd game. This is the first and I am half way through another game that I will post when done.

I did have around 120 for this game so maybe its realistic I don't know.

Postby EccentricMeat on Sat Feb 09, 2013 6:05 pm

Yea, you have WAY too many steals, not quite enough fouls, WAY too many fastbreak points, and it looks like you tend to finish at the rim a lot (high points in the paint). If it's too easy for you to steal the ball from the CPU (which it looks like it obviously is), decrease the USER Steal and Steal Success by 1 each. However, even then, if you want to keep your up-tempo style then you're going to have to live with the high FGA, because that's realistic!

But yea, the main problem is undoubtedly your high number of steals and fastbreak points. By decreasing steals, most of your issues will go away. I'm not quite sure how you're getting too many steals, though, because almost everyone else using these sliders gets called for Reach-In fouls more often than they get steals. Are you sure you're using the URB v5 roster? Are all of these sliders put in correctly? Do you just spam the steal button on defense and get lucky?

I'm a little confused!

Ok I have started my association over with your full slider changes. I use meds 0.9 mainly because of the new player tendency he is putting in. and I also use slimms44 updated coaching profiles along with schnaidt1 coach profile recommendation.

Tell me what you think of this game. Game 1. The created team is the original houston rockets roster.

yes I do get a little impatient and spam the steal button at times. It just irritates me how the cpu just sometimes stands there like its holding its brain instead of a basketball.
