Seems like the Nets have given up all hope of being able to get Howard, so they're scrambling to keep a roster that's just good enough to persuade Deron Williams from heading to Dallas.

The Nets are really fucking themselves up. Trying to get Joe Johnson 20-something million dollar contract, paying a 30-year-old Gerald Wallace $40M... Even though Crash is getting such a payday, I feel sorry for him, being stuck in another crappy team longterm. I'm pretty sure Deron's leaving.

Not unless the Mavs offer Deron a max contract which he wants. iirc the Mavs don't have a good history of giving max contracts even to their own players (Nash, Nowitzki). No max contract from the Mavs and a max contract from the Nets would make Deron stay in Brooklyn.

Lavoy Allen stays in Philly, $6M/2 years. A very fair deal, I think.

edit:

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Jrue Holiday is a member of the 2009 NBA Draft class, therefore he can sign a contract extension that would kick in starting with the 2013-14 season. It looks like Holiday is shooting high on the kind of contract he'd like to get, as Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Holiday is seeking "a max contract extension" from the 76ers.

You gotta be kidding me.

And there are rumors that the Pistons are approaching Beasley; not that it makes any sense with their current roster, as I've mentioned in the Pistons thread.

Harris dealt from Jazz to Hawks in exchange for Marvin Williams.

Not bad, opens up a spot for Mo Williams & Hawks get rid of money.

Well put. Still, seems like wishful thinking on Holiday's part.

If Deron doesn't go to the Mavs. I don't know if I have anything to look forward to this season.

Well there is the departure of Lamar Odom, but probably there won't be much to look forward as a Mavs fan...

Chris Broussard reports that the Nets & Magic are discussing a trade that would send Dwight Howard to Brooklyn for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks, and the Nets' first-round picks of 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Portland's about to sign Hibbert to a max offer sheet. I'd be okay with that happening and the Pacers not matching as long as Batum's offer isn't picked up. 12.5M/year for a role player like Batum (who I like a lot) will instantly have negative value, and it's hard to see Portland improve on a capped out 6th seed Lillard/Matthews/Batum/Aldridge/Hibbert core.

But Indiana will pick up the option and unfortunately, Batum's going to be getting paid 4 yr/50M now. The Joe Johnson trade opens the door for other teams to get Deron again but he ain't signing in Portland.

I think Deron re-signs, Dwight isn't traded, Nash goes back to Dallas and New Orleans matches a max offer to Eric Gordon. [/multiple sources]

I think Dwight will more likely join the Nets instead of staying in Orlando. But I agree on anything else.
