Is it about time we talked about a 2K12 NLSC Mod Pack?

Postby Leftos on Sat May 12, 2012 7:23 pm

This is an open invitation to all patchers, modders and converters that contribute to NLSC, for us as a community to build a big 2K12 mod pack containing everything that was made for this year's iteration, so that by June we can all have the ultimate 2K12 experience for the summer. Cyberfaces, arenas, rosters, shoes, everything.

I'm hoping to hear from as many of you as possible.

I'm going to keep a list of everything contributed by each modder so that the others know what's missing if someone wants to do a last minute new mod to get in the pack and to the community. There's going to be no disputes. If more than one modders contribute the CF for the same guy or the mod for the same arena, we're going to put every alternative in. In the end, I'm going to make an installer that will install all the mods, as well as keep backups, and in any element that has alternative mods for it in the pack, you'll be able to choose which one you want. Proper credits will be given to every modder.

I'd appreciate it if modders didn't just come and say "you can have all my mods", but named the exact mods they're going to contribute so we can put them in the list. If they could also 7zip the files and send them to me, all the better.

Let's show everyone what NLSC has to offer! This is a chance for all of us to show that we're doing this for the community, not just for ourselves.

P.S. Do not use this thread to suggest modders or mods. PM the modders or post in their threads and tell them about this initiative. Do not contact me with other people's work as a contribution, unless you've asked for their permission about this.

I am not a modder or so, but I've got to say this is a GREAT idea! Maybe it could be sorted by teams, but there are lots of options how to do it.

OK, so I am offering;
10 Court Basic Update (basic update, replace with better courts if you get them)
Complete Uniform Lighting Update (unless you use your JoeJames pack)
Rookie Arm Fix (obviously replaced by any good rookie CFs)
"Swish" Remover
Replay Target Remover (or use the n2km file for any gamedata.iff viewtopic.php?p=1431476#p1431476)
Unlock All - Including Retro Kings and Warriors (might want to use a modified version with sim settings and ABA ball off)
JaoSming's Balls (unless you use another ball)
Opinions are my own.

BS, if I don't have the time to get all the files, I'll PM you when the time comes to gather the final list.

Thanks for both your offers Jao and BS, I'll be compiling the first list in a few days. And as I said, Jao, worry not, no mod is getting replaced, we'll offer all alternatives that come up. If you see a "better", in your opinion, modder come up and want to have a mod of yours removed from the pack for theirs, just say so. Otherwise, all your mods are being included side-by-side with everybody else's.

sounds good,

I'm also going to offer up my street courts as additional Blacktop Courts for whatever roster you use. I'd have to custom make the download and edit the rosters you will be including for it to work though.
Opinions are my own.

I'll set a date as a submission deadline, so that when the list is finalized, you edit whatever rosters are included and send them back to me.

Think a month is good? June 12 as a deadline?

You're welcome to any or all of my conversions and the few cyberfaces I've made. There's about a dozen all up by now I think, they are all in the NLSC download section. Did you want me to link each one or are you OK to just grab 'em yourself?

Kieran, links are always useful, just so he can keep track and come back to them if needed.

You can use my portraits. Just tell me what roster are you going to use, so all the players can have their own portrait.

It would be awesome if we combined the Ultimate Base Roster with Alby 5.1 in this pack.

Here's my Ultimate All Time Franchise Mod.

viewtopic.php?f=143&t=83794

The last problem is the conflicting cf numbers from other modders. Please, Mr. Leftos, if you are to compile this mod make sure there are no conflicting cf numbers. Thanks. :D

I appreciate your effort.

To answer some of your questions, here's how the pack is going to be:

Things that we only gather one of will be installed automatically. Things that we gather more than one of (same arena or CF from different creators) will be given as a choice to the user.

All the things that work WITHOUT overwriting files of other parts of the pack will be put in one big default pack (for example the Street Mod by Jao ADDS to the 2K12 experience without overwriting anything, so it can be included with everything else). All big mods that install conflicting files as part of the mod will be put in separate folders so that they can be enabled JSGME.

So we can have multiple rosters in the main pack, as long as they don't use the same CF ID for different players for example.

Does NBA 2k12's performance get lower with higher amount of mods?

Only mods that change the texture resolution could actually worsen your framerate, but the only such mods that I know are shoes, and shoe textures are small enough not to matter that much.

The deadline will be put on June 2. I won't have any time after that as my exams start June 6 and should last until the first days of July. If someone else however wants to take over and put everything together later than that deadline, fine by me.
