just wondering is it true that he can bench press 540pounds? If he can he would have no problem bench pressing Shaq lol

I could wear headbands on my arms.

Yeah, they would fall off, but that's not the point.

How much a player can bench is overrated. Yeah, Big Ben is a workout monster and a strong guy, but if you watched the Indy-Det series, you saw multiple times when guys like Al Harrington (actually he did it 2 or 3 consecutive times vs Big Ben for two straight baskets) or JO basically muscle down and bull away Big Ben for a basket.

Big Ben will not be guarding Shaq a lot for during this series. He is a better weak side defender, not to mention that 'Sheed has done among the best jobs on Shaq in the past few years, and if you ask me, no one, barring Sabonis, has done a better job on Shaq than 'Sheed. No one.

But yeah, those numbers are crazy :D.

How much does Ben Wallace weigh? I'm pretty sure Shaq weighs more, and even though Ben could bench press more then Shaq weighs, he's lighter, so doesn't that mean he has a tougher time? For example, Derek Fisher can bench press a crapload too (I forgot how much it was) but he's much lighter, so he couldn't hold his ground from Shaq.

Just because he can bench press more than Shaq weighs doesn't mean he's stronger than Shaq, though...

Whoa! NBA.com says Ben Wallace is only 240! It's probably 95% muscle too. He's a beast!

Earl Boykins can bench like 300.

Well if you bench press 300 you can push 300 lb w. your arms slone, rigt? And when your being backed down your really just pushing them trying to hold your ground.

If Earl Boykins can bench press 300 pounds, he can push someone who weight 300 poinds around. Be if Shaq is backing down, he is using his muscles too, so he's using a lot more force than 300 pounds that he weighs.

So according to your theory, Ben would be using his weight too...

Ben is probably stronger in a weightlifting sense, and Shaq obviously has more body weight, so I figure they'd be a close match (closer than most I should say).

The offensive player always has the advantage because he uses the momentum of his body. So a guy that is lighter than Wallace can still back him down. Besides, the most important part of defending the post is probably a strong lower body, that means legs because you have to stay grounded and absorb whatever the offensive player gives you

Still considering that, the defensive player has the advantage of leverage (leaning...like Madsen lol). And it's pretty obvious that Ben has a massive set of legs, with all the crazy blocks he gets.

Of course the Dream, but that was before Shaq reached the level of game intelligence he has and before he got Kobe.

They're not equal. Big Ben and Al Harrington, when Al Harrington is backing down Big Ben, that is not even a fair matchup. Harrington muscled around Big Ben in the low block during the Ind-Det series.
Keep in mind also that the block player has to anticipate and react to where the post player is moving. He doesn't want to push really hard against the post player, only to have the post player make a quick move to the right for a layup.
Also, the massive set of legs that help Big Ben get his blocks don't really apply here. They help him get up vertically, but not necessarily hold his ground.

What's also important here is the centre of mass....the lower the centre of mass the harder it is to push someone over.......i think
