"Spike TVs Top 52: NBA"

Tue Jun 01, 2004 5:13 am

annyone else see that? I dont think MJ's "The Shot" should have been #1, personally i think the Stilts 100 pts should have been at least in the top 10 what you guys think?

Tue Jun 01, 2004 9:21 am

Yeah! I don't know why I sat there and watch that bullshit! It was a waste of time. The D. Fisher shot at "0.4" should have been like number "10".

The number one shot should have gone to Kobe vs. Blazers, the game winning shots he made, at the last game of the season. When he got the Lakers the number two spot in the playoffs.

Spike Bullshited Us!!!

Is this spike's top 52 plays in nba?
If it is, wilt should for sure be in the top 10...
And JBalfour4 no way kobe is getting #1 with those shots against blazers even if they were great (im a kobe fan so don't think...)

Anyway it goes, the show was still a waste of time.

Yeah, I saw the show and also believed that it was a waste of time. they could have done a better show though.

Tue Jun 01, 2004 2:46 pm

yeah that show was complete BS.
Horry's shot in 2002 playoffs and Fish's shot this year should have been at least top 10. MJ's shot was not really a miracle ... nor was it surprising. I mean, we all expected it. I wonder why Bill Walton's teams were ranked so high??? And BTW, Carmelo Anthony is such a bad actor. A six year old could have done a better job at that show.

I know I'm biased when it comes to Michael Jordan, but I really have to disagree with this sentiment. It was by no means an easy shot, even though he had a little more time to get the shot off. The first "Shot" in 1989 (which is the one I presume was featured at #1) came before MJ really gained a reputation for last minute heroics. He certainly had some great clutch moments and game winning shots in the 80s, but some of his bigger shots (with more on the line) came after "The Shot" in 1989.

And even if it wasn't surprising...should that really take something away from the shot? After all, isn't it just as impressive to consistently live up to a reputation as a clutch performer and deliver time after time?

I'm not denying that it was a great shot. Of course it was under the circumstances. I'm just saying that it's not the best shot in NBA history.
Like I said before, everybody knew it was coming from MJ. It was certainly a memorable shot. But i'm not surprised that he made that shot ... after all it was destiny. By the way, it is hard to pick which play was #1 and I'm sure this selection was made due to MJ's reputation.
If Clyde Drexler had made that shot in game 6 of the NBA finals, it would not be considered #1.

I may be confused about which shot we're talking about as I didn't actually see the show. I'm referring to "The Shot" against Cleveland in the 1989 Playoffs in my last post. Was it the shot in the 1998 NBA Finals?

yeah mello can't act, he was all monotone and stuff lol Walton was funny tho

Walton Is Holding A Mello Bobblehead
Mello- Hey bill, what are you doin?
Walton- I'm buying this bobblehead of you.
Mello- Why?
Walton- I've got a garden Gnome whos scoring too manny points in the paint, and i need a defender!

that was pretty funny lol

The #1 Shot was MJ's Last bucket as a Bull (1998).

Wed Jun 02, 2004 12:21 pm

Well, the points in my previous post are irrelevant then.

The shot itself may not have been the most spectacular, but I believe the situation makes it one of the most significant shots in NBA history, certainly one of the most significant in recent NBA history. It would have been tough to win Game 7 in Utah. And as I said before, it's impressive to be able to consistently rise to the occasion. Even though it was expected, MJ still had to deliver, and did.

I can't prove that it should be considered the #1 shot/moment/play we've ever seen, as that's all a matter of opinion. But I believe it should be a candidate.

no flames, Jordan did hint he did push him when he said 'did the refees call it'? but who knows, it was still a great shot to end a great career...as a bull!

And as always, I'd like to mention that Reggie Miller has pushed off before some of his game winning shots and great clutch plays, yet nobody faults him for doing so. Some of his pushes were much more blatant than MJ's in the 1998 Finals.
