Dear LiveJournal,

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I know, but it's five minutes I'd rather not spend on the install. Just let me play already.

Played the Jordan NBA's Greatest game. Lost. Now have to do it again. Only fitting, really, given the way the rest of the day has gone.

On the other hand, subs between quarters. About damn time.

So how is this thread different from Letting Off Steam at this point?

It wasn't steam initially. The two are basically interchangeable anyway. Wasn't this one created for things like this, so the steam thread could be for significant issues, anyway?

To add to my frustration, I was in the third quarter of my second game, doing well, and the power cut out. This is getting silly.

This went for 10 minutes, followed by an intermission, followed by another half-hour or so of actual QI, though still with recycled questions. In all, Stephen Fry's monologue was longer than both actual QI segments combined. Complete waste of $200.

Wow, $200? That's pretty steep for something that doesn't live up to expectations. I've paid less for longer and more impressive live performances so yeah, you've got to be disappointed with that, especially when the TV show is so good.

Some folks have been posting more positive stories and day-to-day stuff.

Oh, it was plenty long enough - over three hours from start to finish, including intermission. It's just that three quarters of it was a Stephen Fry standup routine that involved zero other people and had nothing to do with QI whatsoever. It actually went too long, really, particularly given that it didn't start until eight. If it'd been done in half the time, without the monologue, with new questions, and with decent guests, I'd have walked out happy.

Ah, fair enough. In any event, at that ticket price you definitely want to feel like you've got your money's worth, it's a shame that you didn't.

A couple of friends are hosting a Halloween party on Saturday. In honour of the lockout, I'll be going in NBA garb and a skeleton mask.

How many people will approach you on the night to ask what your costume represents?

So you're going as Latrell Sprewell since he starved to death after not being able to feed his family on $7 mill per year?

Probably a few. However, everyone knows I'm a basketball fan so if nothing else, I'd be a creepy/undead basketball player.

So, after a few months hiatus, I finally got myself another job. It involves three twelve hour shifts a week, Thursday to Saturday. I think the first week is going to be tough, but I'm glad to be back in the game, so to speak. My induction is next Wednesday :)

Wow, very long shifts, and I once complained about working nine hours, smh. On the bright side it's just three days a week. Congrats. (Y)

Shame you didn't know earlier as you could've got one cheap on eBay.

Congrats, a job is a job. Three 12 hour shifts aren't the bad, it's almost a full time week's wage & you get 4 days off per week. They'll be long days but if it's busy, it should be alright. Only downside is Thursday to Saturday. Monday to Wednesday would've been better, although that may be a possibility in future.

Thanks guys :)

The shifts are long, but I'm hoping the 4 day weekends and the tradesman's wage will make it worth it. It'll be nice to earn money again. I've missed being able to shop for things on Amazon and going for trips interstate. As for what the job is, it's a print machinist position. That's what I am by trade. Since the type of presses I'll be working with are fairly foreign to me, they're starting me as an offsider so I can learn everything and get rid of the cobwebs (I haven't been employed since the 30th of June). I was pretty honest about my abilities and limitations, so hopefully they'll know what to expect from me.

Sounds pretty good. Monday to Wednesday certainly would've been better but maybe you can still make a few Saturday nights out, running on energy drinks perhaps. ;)

Drove to Sydney last night for a friend's birthday, which included going out to see a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Pretty fun night, the theatre provided us with some props for audience participation and even though a lot of us hadn't seen it before and/or experienced the audience participation factor before, everyone was into it and seemed to have a good time. Long drive home in the early hours of the morning though.

I've been working 11 hour days every weekday for at least 3 months now, three 12 hour shifts a week is nothing...

Well, it's still a long work day no matter what, especially if you're not used to it. But I would say you win there. ;)

That's tough, you must be pretty wrecked. I know I was running 55-60 hour weeks for a couple of months straight, but mine was split where I'd work 8-9 hours at work, come home & have dinner with wife & child & when they went to sleep would do another 3 hours from home remotely. Have been avoiding that since it is shit for family life so now if I do a long day, I try to keep it at the office. I've been good & scaled back to an average 45 hour work week, maxing out at about 50 hours on a busy week. Want to try & avoid the 60+ hour weeks in future if at all possible.

i tihnk i'm in the doghouse at work.... after getting 5 days a week since early August, they scheduled me no shifts next week. :? so i'm losing out on about 400-500 dollars missing one week, but i guess it gives me time to look for (or interview for) another job plus i get to hang out with my cousin on saturday for dinner, which i wasn't sure i would be able to do before. so i guess it's not a complete loss

It's definitely exhausting, but it's partly my fault for probably having a bit of OCD and wanting to control everything...The extra money certainly helps right now though.
