Blazers Show Sign Of Crumbling In Home Loss To Clippers
Eric Gordon scored 24 points in second half
Los Angeles 100, Portland 91
Posted April 1, 2012, 11:12 PM PST
In their first of two national television appearances this season, the home team and favorite Portland Trailblazers were defeated 100-91 at the hands of the last place Clippers. In a match-up that was hyped for the season's sole battle between high profile power forwards LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin, it was actually rising star Eric Gordon that would steal the show.
The game was going Portland's way in the first quarter, with Aldridge dropping 12 points and the Clippers offense being subdued early. A late run in the second quarter sparked by some Portland turnovers saw the Clippers come back to take a one point halftime lead despite Aldridge outscoring Blake Griffin 18 to 9 in the half.
Los Angeles opened up a lead late in the third as the Blazers could not find an answer for Eric Gordon. Roy got torched by him, and Wesley Matthews fared little better when switching on. Portland would come back to take a small lead early in the fourth before Gordon sank a pair of threes. The Clippers would not concede their lead as Portland could not put together enough stops or big plays. The Clips won 100-91, with Gordon taking player of the game honors.![]()
Big Man Beauty Pageant
Gordon, in his fourth season, had a huge year last season that was overshadowed by Blake Griffin and the team's losing record. Now averaging just under 25 points per game, Gordon has taken over as the Clippers' leader, with Blake Griffin having a solid, but underwhelming sophomore season. Gordon is a likely first time all-star. Fellow likely all-star debutant LaMarcus Aldridge also came to play, keeping Portland in it with 27 points and 3 blocks. However, the big man managed just 5 boards and 2 fourth quarter points.
The Clippers, at 4-8, entered the game in last place of the Western Conference. They improve to 5-8, 2.5 games behind 8th place, but tied in the loss column. Portland meanwhile falls to 8-9, a game and a half out of the playoffs. Coach Nate McMillan reportedly chewed out his team. A source close to the team claimed McMillan yelled for ten minutes about the poor defensive effort and turnovers, and cursed Don Nelson's name at least three dozen times.19 27 29 25 100 | PTS: Gordon (32); REBS: Griffin (14); ASTS: M. Brandon Roy To Be Suspended One Game
Roy stepped onto court in Clippers game
The Blazers will be without Brandon Roy in Tuesday's game against the Lakers. Roy got off the bench and ran out onto the court to celebrate a LaMarcus Aldridge dunk in the Blazers' loss to the Clippers. Roy will be fined $25,000 by the league and will be able to play in Thursday's game in Denver.
Huh.
April 3, 2012: Blazers (8-9) @ Lakers (10-8)
Blazers 106, Lakers 104
That Clippers loss really left me out of sorts. I had an epiphany: it didn't matter. It's just a game! It was a glorious day. I went skydiving! I went to the park and read a book. I made dinner for my girlfriend. For the first time in five years, I missed a Blazers game.
So apparently Raymond Felton hit a buzzer beater three for us to beat the Lakers 104-102 in Staples without the suspended Brandon Roy. Aldridge had 36 points and 12 boards on 14-21 from the field (perfect from the line too!).

Durant, Gasols Headline All-Star Reserves
Eastern Conference To Have Six Debutants
The NBA has announced the all-star reserves today. While the West team was largely as expected, there were some controversial picks in the Eastern Conference. The West is headlined by the Thunder's Kevin Durant and the Lakers' Pau Gasol. Gasol's brother Marc Gasol is joined by frontcourt partner Zach Randolph on the team. San Antonio's Manu Ginobili, the Wolves' Kevin Love and the Kings' Tyreke Evans round out the reserves. Manu Ginobili is injured and is likely to be replaced. Marc Gasol is also questionable.
The big surprise for the East is the trio of Milwaukee Bucks: Stephen Jackson, Andrew Bogut and Brandon Jennings. All three are having career seasons, but the Bucks are in the middle of the pack. First-timers John Wall and Andray Blatche are representing the Wizards, who are practically eliminated from playoff contention. Andre Iguodala is having a killer season for the lottery bound Sixers and is joined by the Nets' Deron Williams.
Western Conference

April 9, 2012: Blazers [12-9] @ Grizzlies [13-8] (Played)
Memphis 97, Portland 86
This one was frustrating. Despite a career high 41 points from LaMarcus Aldridge, the Grizzlies were control the whole game, as they played excellent defense and team basketball. Even without the injured Marc Gasol, they dominated.
Memphis had a small lead for most of the first half, and it blew into double digits in the third. Portland made a couple runs, but Memphis would always match. Though Aldridge won the scoring battle, Rudy Gay was far more efficient and his team got the win. Gay is expected to join Aldridge on the all-star team as a replacement for Kevin Durant, who went down with a lower back strain and is sitting out the all-star game.23 14 21 28 86 | PTS: Aldridge (41); REBS: Wallace (8); ASTS: Felton (8)

February 17, 2012; Los Angeles, CA - John Wall was the only player in the rookie-sophomore game to also be named to the all-star game and he played like it. Western Conference 125, Eastern Conference 98
February 19, 2012, Los Angeles, CA - The Western Conference all-stars have defeated the Eastern Conference all-stars, ending a two year losing streak in blowout fashion. Despite having three injury replacement players, the West was favored due to some questionable East reserve picks. However, few expected this.
The game was actually quite close from the start, with a plethora of alley-oops, missed dunks, no defense and the usual hijinks. However, a 25-4 run for the West broke the game open, and the West led by 20+ for the remainder of the game. Game MVP Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and LaMarcus Aldridge had stand-out performances for the West. Meanwhile, Rookie Challenge MVP John Wall flourished in the losing effort with 30 points.
After the game, David Stern hinted his displeasure at the league's decision to have an all-star game. "We saw with the... I want to say... inconsistent quality of the rosters, and the fact that it was in last year's venue... it raises some questions". What that means is unknown. Scott Brooks coached the winning Western Conference squad, while Tom Thibodeau helmed the East. The West now trails the East 36-25 in the all-time series.

Rose Outduels Aldridge As Bulls Beat Portland
by Andy Beggs
Chicago (101) at Portland (93)
Carl Landry teabags the Bulls' front line
The Chicago Bulls have increased their winning streak to four games following a solid 101-93 win in Portland, improving to 14-7. The win came in a game that saw huge performances from stars Derrick Rose and LaMarcus Aldridge.
The Bulls got off to the better start, but could never pull away from the Blazers. Chicago would pull out to a nine point lead at the half, thanks to Portland committing a plethora of turnovers and Derrick Rose having a dominant half with 23 points. Our offense left something to be desired in the third however, with Nicolas Batum switching on to Rose. Despite getting another poor shooting night out of Brandon Roy, the Blazers were kept in the game by LaMarcus Aldridge.
The fourth period saw both teams playing very well. The Bulls continued to barely hold on to their lead, and it wouldn't be until a Carl Landry dunk with three minutes left in the game to put them up 90-89. Unfortunately, all that work getting back into the game would be for naught as a couple big offensive rebounds converted into threes put the Bulls on a 12-3 run to close out the game with the win, 101-93.
Derrick Rose outdueled fellow MVP candidate LaMarcus Aldridge with 38 points to Aldridge's 33. This game increased Rose's lead for the scoring title but also vaulted Aldridge into second place, with 25.9 points per contest (to Rose's 27.6). The Bulls also got a very strong game from Luol Deng, who chipped in 26 points, and sank the momentum shifting three late in the game.
The loss drops Portland to 14-12, and into a tie for the sixth seed (with New Orleans, who Portland defeated earlier in the year to win the tiebreaker). All three teams they face (OKC, NY, GSW) are playoff teams, but two of the three are at home, where they are 9-3. The Bulls meanwhile improve to 14-7 and take a one game lead for first in the conference over the 13-8 Magic.![]()

Kevin Durant came up big down the stretch as the Thunder clinched their division with a win in Portland. The Blazers wanted to win this one, facing their rivals at home. The close race for a playoff spot made this a must-win for the 14-12 Blazers, and Portland played like it. At least for the middle quarters.
The Thunder dominated defensively in the first, leading by double digits for most of it, and holding Portland to just 12 points. Things turned around in the second half, as Durant and Westbrook went cold from the field, and Brandon Roy started to play well. The score was 39-35 Thunder going into the half.
The third quarter saw LaMarcus Aldridge go to work, and Portland continuing with the good defense. Aldridge had 14 of his 25 in the third quarter as Portland led by five going into the fourth. The Blazers could not buy a bucket in the final period, with OKC playing excellent defense. On the other end, Kevin Durant was shaking off his poor start, and the Thunder were eating up the offensive boards. OKC won the game 83-76, clinching their division. Portland meanwhile moves into a tie with Denver for the 7th seed (Portland owns tiebreaker).23 16 17 27 83 | PTS: Durant (26); REBS: Perkins (12); ASTS: Westbrook (8)
