Noob Questions to help me understand the game better....

Postby Jack Bauer GB on Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:01 am

Hey all, been playing a while now but still have a few nooby questions that are bugging me and wondered if you can help.

82 game seasons... how is this made up? is it Your conference x 4 games per team plus twice from the opposing conference? and same question if you play a 58 game and 29 game season.

=/-... I see this in the box scores stat line, but what is it?

I still cant grasp the salary cap and hard cap when it comes to finding a trade that fits. Can someone explain in laymans terms and explain the restrictions of being above the cap.

What are the best defence strategies to use and when? Man 2 man makes most sense to me, but if someone with more knowledge of basketball could explain when it might be useful to use the zones and traps it would certainly be advantageous.

Also what's the difference between a 2-3 zone and a 3-2 zone and when should I use them?

All help is much appreciated. Sorry if these questions sound really dumb, but I'm learning.

One more... Weekly practice in association - do the attribute increases only apply to the next game?

29 games is 1 game against all teams, 58 is a home and away against all teams (i think), and I dont know the NBA regulations on 82 games other than you play every team once at home and once away.

+/-? no idea, but if you just leave the stat selected for a second usually a thing will pop up saying what it is.

When you attempt a trade that doesnt work, it will pop up a warning stating that team b will get $2.5 million more than is allowed, so you need to swing $2.5 million back to your team or make the salaries closer to 1:1.

the rest i dont know (well, I dont use in video games) so someone else can help
Opinions are my own.

2-3 zone is a type of zone defense (you know what zone def is right) where 2 players guard the top perimeter area of the court and 3 players guard the the lower half (2 players on the corners 1 player at the center)

3-2 is just the opposite

About when to use them. Zone def focuses on defending an area instead on defending player. Zone def is good for when the team has a strong inside offense and weak outside offense. But, zone def always leaves someone open for a jumpshot , and in 2k11 it is very easy to shoot jumpshots so I never really use it.

Half court Man to man is mostly used. You can use full court press to make the opponent take some time dribbling the ball down court w/c reduces the amount of time they have to set up their offense. A weakness of full court press is it can be prone to fast breaks since players are spread full court.

What Jao said. You also got it right, 3-4 conference games per team, 2 games (home-away) from other conference.

I still cant grasp the salary cap and hard cap when it comes to finding a trade that fits. Can someone explain in laymans terms and explain the restrictions of being above the cap.

Use Table of Contents.

What are the best defence strategies to use and when? Man 2 man makes most sense to me, but if someone with more knowledge of basketball could explain when it might be useful to use the zones and traps it would certainly be advantageous.

Zone is ineffective against a good (perimeter) shooting team. It's effective against a team that likes to drive/pound it inside. See recent Finals or recent Mavs vs. Lakers playoff matchup.
Use traps when an opposing team doesn't have decent passers and ball handlers.

Also what's the difference between a 2-3 zone and a 3-2 zone and when should I use them?

2-3 zone, best to use when attacking players come from the corners or baseline. Most balanced of the zone defenses (like the game says).
3-2, best to use when players come from the top. Baseline is left open and weak.
You can set any combination of defenses. Example, set man to man as the opposing team sets up their play. Once they make a move and you anticipate a player about to drive to the basket you quickly change to zone defense. If player is coming from the top set 3-2 immediately, if from the baseline set 2-3 zone, if player dishes out, change back to man to man. It's all up to you really.

Weekly practice in association - do the attribute increases only apply to the next game?

It applies for only a number of days. Light practice 2 days, Normal 3, Heavy 4.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll experiment with these defences over the next few days.
