Finally picked a team, thanks for the advice in the other thread guys.

Settings:
Rosters - Andrew's latest (top notch btw, I activated all the best players though, so it's an "uninjured" roster).
Sliders - Andrew's (gotta love what he does for the community...oh yeah I have 0 for auto subs, and increased the cpu mid-ranged shot to 45 in an effort to make them take more lol)
8 minute quarters (12 minute quarters for sim)
Superstar
56 game season
5 game series length
I am playing and acting as GM

BTW, what's the button to take screenshots for the PC version...I'll take some screenshots in my next games.

I personally prefer Cook over Dickau, as he's much more of a pure point guard, but I need Dickau's shooting when he comes in.

SAR to be Traded?

Shareef Abdur-Rahim, the new Blazer, could be dealt for a sharpshooter in the next few days. To be more exact, SAR could pack his bags and move a few miles north to Seattle, in a deal that would send Brent Barry and possibly Flip Murray back here to Portland. GM FanOfAll confirmed yesterday that he has been discussing a deal with Seattle’s GM, Rick Sund, but would not confirm or deny any names.

It has been known that FanOfAll covets Barry, a smooth handling, sharpshooting, and very versatile basketball player, who can play the point guard, shooting guard, or small forward position. The Blazers are in extreme need for a player like Barry, and his acquisition would go along with their recent trend of picking up good locker room players.

SAR’s primary position, power forward, is currently the position where Zach Randolph, Portland’s franchise player, starts. SAR can move to the 3 spot, but his outside shooting is not his strength, and Portland already has other wing men who struggle with their outside shot – naming Darius Miles, Ruben Patterson, and Qyntel Woods. Both Z-Bo and SAR require the ball to be in their hands to score, despite their contrasting style of play. Not to mention that both are widely considered around the league to be liabilities on defense, not assets.

One of the major problems with a trade between Portland and Seattle is the two teams must match the salary numbers. SAR currently makes an average of $14 million a year, while Barry makes $5.5 million. One possibility is for Seattle to package both Calvin Booth and Vitaly Potapenko (the former makes an average of $6 million for the next 4 years, while the latter makes an average of $6 million for the next 2 years). These two players are not players FanOfAll covets – due to their skill level and the length of their salary. The other roadblock to a possible trade is that Barry will be a free agent after this year; Portland was to be ensured that Barry will resign or will extend his contract so they will not have traded away SAR for two overpaid centers.

Blazers Win Season Opener

DELTA CENTER, UTAH -- Shareef Abdur-Rahim could not wait to get on the floor for his Blazer debut. “I was jumpin’ up and down before the game…I just couldn’t stop fidgeting around,” said the 6’9” forward from Cal. Maybe that helped him, as SAR, coming off the bench, scored 22 points on 10 of 16 shooting, grabbed 10 boards, and dished out 6 assists in 27 minutes, to go along with being named Player of the Game. Not at all daunted by pre-season rumors of him being shipped north to Seattle for Brent Barry, SAR showed up big in the first half, rallying the Blazers back from an early deficit of 11-2 to a double digit 2nd quarter lead.

“His versatility to play both the 3 and 4 spots really helped us out, and his unselfishness on the court was one of the main reasons we won this game,” said Portland head coach, Mo Cheeks. Jerry Sloan, head coach of the Jazz, added, “Abdur-Rahim was all over the court, driving, posting up, taking jump shots…none of our guys could stop him.”

It was, however, another Portland big that took over in the fourth quarter. “Z-bo (Zach Randolph) was a monster in the 4th…he was out there just dominating the offensive glass and converting post opportunities,” chirped Cheeks. After a quiet start with struggles on offense, rebounding, and defense, Randolph exploded late in the 3rd quarter (just when the Jazz were catching up), where he dominated Kirilenko, Collins, Ostertag and anyone the Jazz threw at him. Randolph also grabbed a team high of 3 offensive rebounds, all with less than 5 minutes to play, and led the team in blocks, with 2 (Theo Ratliff, Dale Davis, and Qyntel Woods all had 1 apiece).

Speaking of Woods, the young man was 3rd on the team in scoring with 16 points. After an amazing Summer League where he lead all players with 28.3 points a game, Woods first entered the game late in the 1st quarter, with Randolph, SAR, and Anderson taking a breather on the bench. No worries, as Woods used his quickness and athletic ability to drive past Jazz players time and time again. “Qyntel was our spark plug out there…and our main scorer with some of our main guys on the bench,” responded Cheeks when asked about Qyntel’s play.

Cheeks also added, when a reporter posed the question of how he felt of his team’s play, “I thought we played great tonight. I thought we could use some work on some part of our game, like our boxing out the defensive end, or our team defense, but I thought we did a good job overall on both sides of the floor.” Sloan seemed to agree, “We had a tough time stopping their weapons…guys like Woods and Miles were on the break all the time, our low post defense just wasn’t good enough tonight to stop SAR and Z-bo…guys like SAR and Stoudamire did a nice job feeding their other players down low for easy buckets. I thought Carlos (Arroyo, 24 points on 11 for 18 shooting and 7 assists) played a great game though, nothing against Damon or Dan Dickau, but Carlos really lit them up tonight.”

Notes: Arroyo led all scorers with 24, and Giricek had 15 points for the Jazz, who shot as a team 40.5% from the field. The Blazers were led by SAR (22), Z-Bo (18), and Woods (16), while shooting a 58% clip from the field. Both teams struggled from the line, although neither team reached the line often (Utah had 3 attempts, Portland had 8). The Jazz took a team record of 39 3’s in the game, making only 6…Giricek was 3 for 15 and Hapring was 1 for 12 from behind the arc…Damon struggled with his jump shot until hitting a clutch 3 with under a minute to go that sealed the game for good…

Comments, suggestions, criticism of anything please. I would love some on format/structure of game reporting and stuff like that...enjoy the recap and newspaper format or should i use a different system?

Push f12 to take a screenshot. It'll be in Drive C. Use something like photoshop to resize and convert to different picture format.

Your way of doing it is easier than mine. You just cut it up, and paste it in fragments. I have to go back and forth and record the stats on my dynasty.

i just realized i forgot the score in my recap for the other game and I did the date wrong lol.

Tough Loss for the Trail Blazers

Season Record: 1-1

ROSE GARDEN, PORTLAND -- In their home opener, the Blazers donned their alternate, red jerseys, instead of their traditional white jerseys. The red jerseys seemed to provide luck to the team, as the team started off hot, especially Damon Stoudamire, who had 6 assists by the end of the 1st quarter. The luck also seemed to spread to LeBron James, as he scored 10 first quarter points, all off Derek Anderson. DA was put on the bench, and Darius Miles, LBJ's close friend and ex-teammate, was given the assignment of guarding LBJ. It seemed to work, as LBJ scored no more points through the second quarter before requiring a breather.

Zach Randolph, the team's leading scorer and rebounder (21 points, 7 boards, 6 assists) dominated the 1st half by muscling away Boozer/Nailon (why he was playing PF is beyond me) or driving past Ilgauskas. Big Z, however, also muscled around the Trail Blazer big men, in the likes of the Rattler, Z Bo, or DD and finished the game with 17 points, most coming in the first half.

The Blazers had a double digit half time lead and went into the 3rd quarter with a firm grasp on the game. Even through the 3rd quarter, where SAR and Woods scored the majority of their points (19 and 10, respectively), the Blazers kept ahead by in double digits. It was in the 4th quarter, however, when the Cavs started rallying. Z Bo was constantly doubled and missed just about every shot he took in the 4th, and SAR, Woods, and Damon were reduced to non-factors. Meanwhile, the wonder kid, LeBron James, took over with fast break baskets and nailing 2 clutch 3's. Mo Cheeks acknowledged however, that some of it may have been his mistake, "Maybe I shouldn't played SAR at small forward. Williams (Eric) seemed to do a good job negating him out of the equation...and nobody stepped up to make the shots we needed them to with Z Bo getting doubled every possession."

With less than 30 seconds, and the Blazers down 3, Damon Stoudamire missed a somewhat contested 3 pointer that would have tied the game. From there on out, the Cavs hit their free throws, and the Blazers could not hit their outside shots.

which reminds, since i wanted to have my blazers wear the alternate red, i was forced to make the cavs wear their '93 road jerseys, not their current road jerseys (also red).

Nice franchise ! I like the boxscores, maybe you could compress them, keeping only the key stats (points, rebounds, assists and minutes) so it will stand in one block instead of 3, which is harder to follow

HonorGlow: I program and the editing program I use is also a text editor, and I use box select mode, where the selection is always a box.
alexboom: I was considering doing that, but I'm such a nitpicker, so I was more satisfied putting almost all of them in there. But I think I'll take you recommendation next time :wink:

I have a few questions for you guys...
- Would you like to see shorter recaps...a) newspaper style or b) just a summary of the game.
- What type of pictures would you prefer to see...highlights of game (like the two I posted above) or shots at key points during the game (would probably be more random)?
- More GM/Coach interaction? I'm thinking I'll keep the newspaper format for rumors and do a radio interview with myself periodically, where you guys can ask the questions...but I'm open to any input.

Blazers “very disappointing” in loss

ROSE GARDEN, PORTLAND – In a postgame conference, Coach FanOfAll seemed to have an instinctual response to a question posed regarding his team’s play, “Very disappointing. Even Z-Bo. There’s nothing more to say.”

Despite youngster Z Bo’s first ever triple double (18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists), the Trail Blazers were not able to overcome a lackluster 2nd quarter performance that put them behind for good. Led by Allen Iverson, who finished with 28, the 76ers were able to take advantage bad transition defense and nonexistent box outs by the Trail Blazers.

“Even Z-Bo (was disappointing)?” asked one surprised reporter.
“Even Z-Bo…he had a great game offensively, but he gave up critical offensive rebounds that swung momentum to their side or the one he gave up to Jackson in the 4th and fouled him…that put us behind by 12, instead of just 9,” countered the coach.

Other Portland bigs weren’t particularly effective either. The Rattler was pushed around by Derrick Coleman frequently and has not lived up to his shotblocking expectations since arriving in Portland. SAR was ineffective on offense when guarded by Kenny Thomas and Aaron McKie. Dale Davis had the best defensive game, altering many shots down low and playing solid defense on his man.

The blame cannot go only on the big men, however. Besides Woods (who scored 12 in the 4th quarter), the wing men struggled with their shot (especially Damon, who went 2 for 6 and missed key shots late). Both Darius Miles and Derek Anderson had terrible defensive performances; the former was bullied down low by Glenn Robinson constantly in the 1st quarter and latter was burned time and time again by Iverson.

Multiple Blazers left the locker room without addressing the press, although one of our staff members did happen to hear DA – one of those who left early – complaining to Damon regarding Z-Bo. DA was unhappy that Z Bo “kept hogging the ball” and compared him to a “black hole” in that once the ball went into him “it wouldn’t be coming back out(side).”

Notes: The Blazers started off hot in the 3rd quarter and cut the lead down to single digits, but the 76ers used the fast break to regain the double digit lead...Woods scored most of the Blazer 4th quarter points...Miles had 2 goaltends in the 1st quarter...FanOfAll was vividly disappointed by his players' defense...

Blazers lose a heartbreaker in OT

ROSE GARDEN, PORTLAND – With under a minute remaining in OT, SAR put up a 8 foot shot in the middle of lane and was hacked from behind by James Posey. There was no foul called and the entire Rose Garden began booing. SAR just shook his head in disbelief after he quickly fouled Jason Williams, who sank his two free throws that essentially ended the game.

This time, there was no triple double from youngster Z-Bo. Not even a double-double, as Z-Bo finished one rebound short of one and had 24 points to lead the Blazers. SAR chipped in 21, while Gasol and Miller each had 25 to lead the Grizz.

But how was the defense? “Terrible,” stated FanOfAll in the post-game conference, “So was our shot selection. And some of our guys just couldn’t hit open jump shots.” Coach did not state any specific names, but it was clear he alluded to Z-Bo, DA, and Damon.

There were some bright spots for the Blazers, however. Woods continued his steady play with 10 points and 5 assists, to go along with his excellent defense on Miller (who scored the majority of his points with DA guarding him). The Rattler also responded to criticism of his play and rumors of DD starting in front of him, with 9 boards and 6 blocked shots.

How could the team improve though? “Commit less touch fouls,” responded FanOfAll, “we were in the penalty too quickly in the 1st quarter and that sucked the momentum out of us. We couldn’t run the break with them shooting free throws every other possession.” Also, “Our big men need to call for help quicker. And help out on driving opponents quicker.

Notes: Gasol and Z-Bo seemed to have a duel going on between them throughout the game…in the end Gasol won with 25 points, 13 boards, 4 blocks, and the win…the Blazers had a tough time stopping Gasol in the post…the Rose Garden constantly booed the refs for non-calls...

Blazers Drop 4 Straight

(being the genius I am I forgot to save the game stats and forgot the score...it was something like 91 to 86 though...this season is much more challenging than i thought it would be, but that's definitely a good thing)

Season Record: 1-4

KEY ARENA, SEATTLE – Coach FanOfAll was once again, extremely disappointed with his team. He answered questions as quickly as possible and then boarded the bus back to Portland. Apparently somewhere between the press conference and the bus ride, he lost his temper, as he was clearly audible from outside the locker room.

Seattle’s Ray Allen led all scorers with 33 points on 15 for 20 shooting, doing this while torching the likes of Derek Anderson. Rashard Lewis chipped in with 24 points on 11 for 18 shooting, mostly on soft defense by Darius Miles, even though Miles later played excellent defense on Allen.

Zach Randolph led the Blazers with 22 points and SAR was the only other Blazer in double digits. Rookie forward Travis Outlaw made his debut and while he did not score much, he contributed with 4 quick assists and in-your-face defense on Lewis. He was the lone Blazer whose name made FanOfAll’s face light up in the post game conference. FanOfAll stated, “The kid can play for real. He’s definitely going to see more playing time.”

The Blazers cut it to single digits, even tieing the game in the 4th quarter, but later, with sloppy transition defense and bad shot selection gave it up.

The Blazers could have found their new backup point guard. DA played some point guard in the 4th quarter and FanOfAll commented on it, “Part of the reason was we needed DA in the game to shoot. But Allen was burning him time and time again…so we tried him at the point and Woods or Miles at the 2. We may see more of this lineup.”

Notes: The game started with 2 Z-Bo turnovers (both stolen by Ray Allen)…Brent Barry had 5 assists in the first quarter…Lewis had 11 points and 2 boards halfway through the first…the offense seemed stagnant once the ball was thrown to Z-Bo inside…

Blazers Snap Losing Streak

(again I was a genius and forgot to save both the player stats and game stats, so I forgot the final score…and there is no box score this time)

Season Record: 2-4

ROSE GARDEN, PORTLAND – The Trail Blazers finally snapped a 4 game losing streak with a win over the lowly Atlanta Hawks. Led by Z-Bo’s 24 points and 11 rebounds, the Blazers overcame a slow start and a single digit deficit at the end of the 1st half. In the 4th quarter however, it was the usual culprits: SAR and QW leading the charge. The Hawks, on the other hand, had point guard, Jason Terry pro-hopping his way to 35 points, pushing past DA and Damon with relative easy whenever he felt like it. Jason Collier added 11 rebounds and a few key putbacks late in the game as well.

Travis Outlaw’s 2nd pro game seemed to be more effective than his first. He again, showed excellent defense, as well as some highlight reel dunks and crisp passing, surprising for one who came straight out of high school. Coach FanOfAll appeared very high on his play, “I thought Travis played excellent today…he’s making huge strides in terms of court knowledge and his jump shot. His energy and defense are contagious to the rest of the team.”

FanOfAll also seemed a bit more pleased with the team’s effort on defense, “I thought we improved on defense…better than our past few games. We could’ve done a better job I felt, on Terry, but the kid is a very talented player who can shoot the lights out and blow past you before you realize it.”

Notes: DA showed good vision and passing at the point guard spot, although he lacked serious speed…the Blazers have been frequently frustrated with the refs of late, arguing frequently…the offense seemed to watch Z-Bo once he received the ball in the post…FanOfAll was visually irritated at some of the shots Z-Bo took…Cook maybe activated soon in favor of Patterson or Dickau…

Outlaw with a MONSTER slam...

QW was the Blazers' best player in the 4th...(that 2nd one is one awesome dunk)

but SAR was just as important

haha when you have guys who can't shoot past 18 feet (Woods, Miles, Outlaw, ZBo) and high fliers (the first 3, Anderson), you can't help but not dunk

. but really, when the fast break is going, the team starts rolling, and guys get easy dunks/layups...thus lots of pics of fast breaks :wink:

Blazers blowout Raptors

Portland 90, Toronto 75

Season Record: 3-4

ROSE GARDEN, PORTLAND – Four Blazers reached double digits in points as the Blazers used a 2nd quarter run to take the lead from the Raptors and they never looked back. Qyntel Woods led the Blazers with 17, and Z-Bo was right behind him with 16 points and 9 boards. SAR and Miles added 14 and 13, respectively.

The Blazers caught a lucky break in the 1st quarter when Vince Carter picked up two quick fouls. With the Raptor superstar on the bench however, Jalen Rose picked up the slack, scoring a whopping 16 points in the 1st, mostly off of DA and, surprisingly, Woods. Vince re-entered the game late in the 2nd quarter and played most of the 3rd, until he yet again, picked up two quick fouls, which put him on the bench till the 4th. And surprise, surprise, he picked up his 5th foul less than 2 minutes back onto the floor and that put him out for the rest of the game.

Darius Miles excelled in the 1st quarter, scoring 8 points early on, most of them by driving past Morris Peterson for a dunk. Woods picked it up in the 2nd and 4th quarters, always leading a Blazer run to extend the lead. After a shaky first half on Rose, his defense improved throughout the game.

Blazer Ruben Patterson made his season debut in the 3rd quarter and responded by shutting down Jalen Rose, who went 0-5 with Patterson covering him. However, Patterson showed no offense, including a non-existant jump shot. Coach FanOfAll, “I loved the energy and defense Patterson brought us…he showed nice passing as well, but until he can either drive it like Woods, Miles, Outlaw can, or shoot, his playing time is going to be up in the air.”

Miles had a huge impact in the 1st (oh dang, I just remember...I took a pic of the basket after the Miles dunk and it was sloped downwards...but I was like why did I take this SS so i deleted it)

Z-Bo leads Blazers in romp of Kings

Portland 88, Sacramento 77

Season Record: 4-4

ROSE GARDEN, PORTLAND – Z-Bo started off red hot in the 1st quarter, with 8 points and 6 rebounds, as the Blazers jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. They never looked back, and neither did Z-Bo, who finished with a game high 33 points and 15 rebounds, pushing around Chris Webber and Vlade Divac.

Webber’s poor defensive play put him on the bench midway through the 1st quarter and he did not return until the start of the 2nd half. Peja, however, filled his void by nailing two straight 3’s once Webber took a seat and had 9 first quarter points.

A Blazer lineup of Ratliff, Z-Bo, SAR, Woods, and Damon dominated the Kings in the 2nd quarter, resulting in a 15 point Blazer lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Portland led by as many as 19 (twice) in the 2nd quarter.

Doug Christie made the game competitive with 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, though. He nailed 2 straight 3’s over Qyntel Woods and proceeded to hit 3 free throws to pull the Kings within 9. It never got any closer, however, as Randolph re-entered the game and, once again, dominated Webber down low. Z-Bo appeared pumped about, after recent criticism in the press regarding his selfish play.

The coach agreed, “Z-Bo was full of energy to start the game and it really showed…he hasn’t been happy with his play lately or the talk of him hogging the ball in the papers. He played excellent today…on both ends of the floor…played great team basketball, passing out of the double team (he finished with 5 assists), taking good shots, making nice feeds, rotating on defense, helping out down low, you name it.”

Notes: For the first time this season, the Blazers showed surprising offensive fluidity without the fastbreak…both Z-Bo and SAR played surprisingly good defense on Webber and Peja, respectively…Omar Cook made his debut with the Blazers after being activated in favor of Dan Dickau…he was unproductive in 2 minutes in play...SAR displayed the great team player, including dishing out 6 assists
