PSA: 2K Community Site is Shutting Down

Postby JaoSming on Tue Jul 05, 2011 12:51 pm

Looks like the official community site is shutting down.

http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthre ... ost3496824
Hey all,
http://community.2ksports.com/community/index.cfm

This is the official 30 day notice for the removal of the Online Community Site.

We are looking towards overhauling this experience in the coming months to bring a brand new experience to all of you. In the short term, it has become necessary to pull this site down. This will effect those of you with leagues but the long term benefit will really be enjoyed. Feel free to e-mail me or tweet me if you'd like to discuss when this is pulled down. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Ronnie

I suggest everyone download their uploads and any favorites before they are gone forever.....and ever.....and ever.....and ever.....and ever

Thanks to Barackafella for the heads up

Does that mean league pages are gonna be wiped-out as well?

Don’t you love the chase? Sometimes it doesn’t work out; those are the stakes. But when it does work out, it’s like having that first cigarette: your head gets all dizzy, your heart pounds, your knees go weak. Remember that?

for now, it has been already :( I hate this lockout!

Looks like we wont have rookies and free agents in 2k12, if this lockout thingy takes forever. (N) (N)

Nah, what I'm referring to are the online leagues pages in NBA 2K11.

I think we will have rookies and all players in 2K12.

Good. Maybe they can use the extra resources towards the online experience of their games.

Probably not if the lockout lasts past the usual roster cutoff date.

Hopefully they can make them hidden, but that could create a legal mess :P

...or this might happen

"NBA Live 99 shipped with 1997/1998 season rosters due to the NBA Lockout of 1998/1999 putting a hold on player movements and rookie signings during the summer of 1998. Some prominent bugs led to the NBA Live Series Center submitting a patch petition to EA Sports which resulted in two official patches which included roster updates for the 98/99 season."

"Due to the NBA lockout, NBA Live 99 featured final 1997/1998 rosters rather than early 1998/1999 rosters featuring the draft class of 1998."

Since they said they are shutting the entire site down, yea I think so.

Pdub wrote:Good. Maybe they can use the extra resources towards the online experience of their games.

C'mon man, you know they've been using the same Community Site setup for 3 years now without any changes, this isn't freeing up bandwidth or online games or anything.

If anything it has to do with this, https://twitter.com/#!/Ronnie2K/status/ ... 1956182016
On a call with YouTube/Google reps. Some exciting stuff may be in store for coming year in terms of community.

Just trying to be optimistic. Hoping for better play online. I may end up getting the 360 version if the pc online experience isn't improved next year.

I will agree with that, that's why I'm glad owning the 360 version. My Player pick up games are sooooo much fun, even when your player sucks.

This sucks, another blow to the offline gamer. We don't want to play online. It's no fun playing online. Hopefully they patch 2k11 so that the Google/YouTube upload work in 2k11

Hey Jao, you still have the original 2K10 Reelmaker saved file of that one you made in Blacktop mode where you used flashing effects for the entirety of the clips?
Why bother downloading it when I can have the original, if it's still available of course.

What I meant was the saved reelmaker file itself from the game (forgot the file extension) not the uploaded one. If none, that'll will have to do. Curses you 2K.

Thanks Jao. Visited the community site and it looks much better now unlike the cluttered mess it was before. Just when the site looks better it shuts down.
