He doesn't suck right now?

He's going to get banged around by the physical NBA play.

He does. In the Euroleague and Spanish league, he has a lot of similar PGs, a lot of not very athletic white guys and he still averages just 6 and 3. He's gonna crash and burn against guys like Rose and Westbrook.

If coach gives him free reign with the basketball, I think he will be a positive impact offensively in a playmaking role. He's not a good shooter so that's going to limit him a lot but he will be great in the open court. Defensively, he will probably struggle a lot but we knew he hustles, has quick hands and so maybe he won't get killed too bad. I'm pretty sure he can hold his own. But only time will tell.

Good luck trying to do that in the Triangle offense. With Kurt Rambis as coach. With players like that in Minnesota.

Certainly could happen. I still think he'll last a couple of mediocre to terrible weeks into the new season though.

Judging from the stats this year, other than him being still young, I can't really see the upsides on this kid. Can anyone explain about what the hype is about?

Don't look at stats, watch him play. Granted I haven't seen him play since 2008, so hopefully his game hasn't slipped since he was 17/18 year old.

Aren't all the reports over the past two years saying that he just hasn't developed at all?

Most of the hype when he got drafted seemed to be about how at 18/19, he had already developed a fair part of his game, yet still supposedly had a shitload of potential to go elsewhere (especially in shooting)

And if he's going to be 21 this season and he's still the same player, well...

That seems to be what most people are saying. With all the naysayers, I'm starting to think he's either going to come in and blow everyone away, proving them wrong, or just be a tremendous flop and waste of a pick; no in-between where it's unlikely he'll be a star but you'd at least say he's pretty good.

His supporters?media handlers? are saying that being in the euro/spanish league isn't good enough to fast track his development that's why he decided to come to the NBA now, which brings us back to his stats, which isn't really eye catching for someone who's 'bored' of the competition.

Supporting conspiracies, he will develop well in the nba if he becomes/stays a media baby. Plus, the nba style seems to be more perimeter/guard based. He'll put up 12 and 6 if he gets to start.

Rubio will be much better in the NBA than Europe. His style fits the NBA game more than it does in Europe.

It's official.

Rubio officially announced in Barcelona on Friday that he would exercise a buyout of his contract and come to the NBA. A few hours later, Kahn tried to temper the soaring expectations from a fan base eagerly awaiting Rubio’s arrival.

“I think it’s very important, and you’ll probably here me say this constantly starting today and then throughout the summer and maybe even into next fall, it’s very important to me and I think for him to know that we not start getting ahead of ourselves,” Kahn said.

Rubio, he added, must be “allowed to break into the league just as any rookie would.”

Good for the team. 1, 2 punch in and out. Hope this guy lives up to his hype so Minny could finally get back on winning track.

just wondering how many great euro PG guards have there been in the NBA? sarunas marcilonus(sp?) marko jaric? tony parker? does rubio share any of their characteristics besides bad defense? what is his best skill? he's flashy? the nba is full of great athletes. they are going to eat this guy up alive. not only is he slow-he can't shoot lol how can someone be good at pick and roll if one can't shoot? silly euro defense.

rubios scouting report reads like dan dickau lmao
Lamrock wrote:Nice. Even though his ceiling seems to be a poor man's Rajon Rondo, it will still be cool to see Rubio make it, after following his career for like five years. And no matter how bad he pans out, he's still a massive upgrade over Jonny Flynn.

saying he's an upgrade for the pg minnesota situation is not saying much. ya know- i can score more points then Lorenzen Wright

Now that you mention it, Tony Parker's probably the only one of note.

I think he's going to surprise all the Euro haters. His basketball IQ is better than that of some All Stars in the NBA. Just hope he can adjust to the athletic play.

I don't think it's a case of people hating on Euroleague or whatever. He's not exactly tearing it up in Europe and he'll be coming to a league where he's likely to be outmatched athletically, so there are naturally going to be some doubts about him.

I don't know if athleticism is much of an issue here, most people seem to think he'll be fine in that regard and why he was so high in the draft in the first place. Brandon Jennings also stunk in Europe despite his athleticism.

I issue no judgement on whether or not Jennings stinks in America as well despite his athleticism.

I should have quoted Air Gordon, because I was relating to him and his definitely Euro-hostile post.
