Is it too bad if i say Spoelstra deserved it? Otherwise, Pop has done a great job.

When you coach LeBron, Wade, and Joel Anthony whom are the Heat's Big 3, there's not much "coaching" that needs to be done. Coaching a star-studded team to a 60-win season is far far easier to do than coaching aging veterans to a 60-win season. Congrats to Pop. (Y)

Spurs bounce back from 16-point deficit, but empty energy tanks down the stretch; Lakers take 2-1 lead
Preview | Recap | Game Info | Full Play-by-Play | Boxscores (SAS :: LAL)

LOS ANGELES, May 23 -- Manu Ginobili drove on Lamar Odom in the key, the two collided and the Los Angeles Lakers' reserve fell to the hardwood, grimacing in pain. When Odom limped off the court and disappeared into the tunnel, it didn't look good. A couple of minutes later, he was back, waiting at the scorer's table to return to the action. Although the Lakers absorbed some hits, they toppled the San Antonio Spurs, 95-89, in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals to hold a 2-1 advantage. Making up, once again, for Pau Gasol's struggles, Odom had seven points and five rebounds; he downplayed the injury and quick recovery, but coach Phil Jackson didn't. “I don't know what the medics did with him,” said Jackson, “But I'm glad it wasn't a serious injury.” Gasol said he was proud of the sixth man. “He didn't even make it back to the locker room,” said the Spaniard. “He came right out, showed a lot of courage and knew that we needed him.” Gasol, battling foul trouble -- he had three personal fouls in the first quarter -- , played only 14 minutes for eight points, one rebound and two blocks. Kobe Bryant added a game-high 26 points and Shannon Brown had 19 off the bench.

Prior to the Manu-Odom collision, it was a close game, but Brown pulled the Lakers up 60-50 in the first minutes of the third with a slam dunk. Odom himself then had a 3-pointer and Bryant added an And-1 for a 66-50 lead. The Spurs were falling behind, and could never got into a rhythm until a 12-2 fourth quarter rally. Tim Duncan made three layups in a row in just under 2 minutes, helping San Antonio tie the game at 82. But Los Angeles carried Brown and Bryant's free throws in the last minute to seal the victory. Odom said he got hit pretty hard and fell awkwardly on his left foot, but it wasn't an injury to really consider. “My left foot feels fine, thanks for asking, but there's no need to worry. I just need some ice on it,” he said. “The team had a great night. Everybody came out with a positive attitude and we did a great job on defense.” Andrew Bynum had easily his best game of the series, scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds, six of them on the offensive glass -- of the Lakers' seven offensive boards -- and scored eight of his team's first 10 points. “I think we were hungry to tie the series back in their home court,” Bynum commented. “We know we have to respect them. They will come back strong, trying to tie this battle again.”

Game 4 will be played here in Los Angeles and the Lakers will look for a decisive 3-1 lead in the series. “We blew some defensive assignments at key moments,” said Ginobili, who had 15 points and five rebounds for San Antonio. “They were able to slow us down in the fourth period and get the win.” Duncan had a monster outcome of 20 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, a block and even found time for two steals, while Corey Maggette posted 14 points, but it wasn't enough down the stretch. “I didn't like our first half at all,” said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “I didn't like our the way we tried to execute our offense or not execute it at all.” The Spurs started the game shooting 4-of-13, with the Lakers shooting 7-of-11 in those first minutes. DeJuan Blair, who scored 15 points of his own, said he's confident the team will bounce back. “To be honest, I don't know if we could play much worse,” he said. “Both teams shot the ball horrendously from beyond the arc, but still, from our case, they had a lot of blocks and I'm pretty sure we were outscored in the paint. Things that we have to do better if we want to get to the Finals.”

You gotta get back homecourt advantage. A split in L.A. is so important now. Let's hope your season does not end like the Spurs IRL: Earlier than expected. The Lakers are tough to beat, but for some reasons I beat them more often than for example the Hornets.

Nice to see Pop winning the COTY. (Y)

/Edit: wathcing the vid, goddam, you have to stop Brown's penetration and mid-range shot. Some nasty jams.

    2011 Most Valuable Player: LeBron James
    nba.com/spurs/beat | May 24th, 2011

    NEW YORK -- LeBron James of the Miami Heat is the winner of the Maurice Podoloff Trophy as the 2010-11 NBA Most Valuable Player presented by Kia Motors, the NBA announced today. James finished the season ranked fifth in the league in scoring at 25.4 ppg, having shot .494% from the field, .779% from the free-throw line and .342% from beyond the arc. In addition, James added 7.9 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game. The 6-8 versatile forward led the Heat to the franchise’s 8th Pacific Division title, posting the best record in the Eastern Conference at 63-19 (.768) in the process -- a 16-game improvement over last year, at 47-35, (.573); sweeped the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month awards and was named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week 11 times, including five in a row from November 14 - 20 to December 12 - 18; and also, is just the fourth player in NBA history to win three straight MVP awards: Bill Russell with Boston (1961, 1962, 1963), Wilt Chamberlain with Philadelphia (1966, 1967, 1968) and Larry Bird again with the Celtics (1984, 1985 and 1986).

    The NBA MVP trophy is named in honor of the late Maurice Podoloff, the first commissioner of the NBA who served from 1946 until his retirement in 1963. The 2010-11 NBA Most Valuable Player of the Year Award presented by Kia Motors is part of a series of on-court performance awards called “The NBA Performance Awards Presented by Kia Motors.” The awards, which are part of a multi-year marketing partnership between Kia Motors America and the NBA, also include the Most Improved Player, Sixth Man Award, and Defensive Player. The series also includes the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month presented by Kia Motors. A panel of 125 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada voted for James; rounding out the top five in voting for this season’s award were:

Yeah, their bench was better; Gasol struggled all three games.

Yeah, that was a problem. Fisher had a great game, I tried to keep Parker with him but he sucked, 41 minutes for TP. When I realized Hill was still in warmups (first minutes of the first quarter :shake: ) it was too late.
