Why KG shouldn't be MVP by Lacy Banks

Postby Hannibal on Thu Apr 22, 2004 6:28 pm

It takes more than talent to earn one man's MVP vote

The reason he didn't vote for KG was:

because KG snubbed him for an interview.

What a moron.

I couldn't find the column following that link. But if that's the only reason he didn't vote for KG in the MVP voting, then it's a rather petty reason. I could understand if he was casting his vote for the All Interview Team, but his personal grudge should not outweigh the brilliant season KG has had. Credit should be given where credit is due. I don't particularly like Shaq, but I would never say he's a terrible player.

If the early balloting is anything to go by, one vote won't really matter. But I still think that's a pretty poor reason for asserting KG isn't worthy of being named the league's MVP.

If that's the guys reason then he shouldn't even be voting for any of the awards. That's just stupid.

LOL, if he's not voting for him 'cause he didn't gave him an interview, then Kobe is not the MVP 'cause he's a raper (example!), Shaq cusses in national TV, O'Neal is not happy with the media either (something about NBA TV), T-Mac has an awful record and Duncan was injured.

Try this link out:

He says KG is rude to the media. Wasn't KG in the all-interview team for 4 consecutive years now?

People like Banks think every athlete should kiss their butts because they're the media. By the way he writes his articles about athletes, I'm not surprised KG snubbed him.

He shouldn't be allowed to vote IMO.

KG might be the first unanimous MVP, and Banks might have ruined it all because of his one vote.

Thanks for the new link. (Y)

I always have had a policy of voting for the human qualities of an MVP candidate, as well as his basketball talent. I look at each candidate's character, professionalism and willingness to promote the product of which he is a part and which has made him quite wealthy.

I really don't think that's sensible criteria for deciding who is the Most Valuable Player in the league. Again, an All Interview Team selection would depend on some of these factors, but it's a really petty, self-centred reason for snubbing someone for the MVP award.

So when I entered the voting booth of my conscience and drew the curtains of reconsideration, I switched my vote with a clear mind and a warm feeling of moral accomplishment.

Garnett still is expected to win the MVP, so he doesn't need my vote anyway. But the Garnett I have come to know professionally is an arrogant ingrate who probably cares as little about those voting for him as he does about those who won't. He'll take the praise and awards, but that probably won't change how he views and treats the media.

I only wish the balloting was so close that it came down to one vote. My vote. Then I'd feel even better about the message I'm trying to send.

And that message is: It's so nice to be nice.

All I can say is: Ugh. (N)

I can understand that sports journalists have a job to do just like everybody else, and it would certainly be courteous of KG to be more accessible for interviews or even just a few words. But I still think his grudge and his "reasoning" for his MVP voting is foolish.
