WEST: ROUND 1
LAC LEAD 3-0(7) PHOENIX SUNS vs. (2) LOS ANGELES
CLIPPERSUS Airways Center - Phoenix, AZ April 28, 2011 Matchups Steve Nash PG Baron Davis Vince Carter SG Eric Gordon Grant Hill SF Wilson Chandler Antonie Walker PF Blake Griffin Mehmet Okur C DeAndre Jordan Live by the 3, Die by the 3, Come back to life and kill with the 3
THE FACTS: Both teams seemed to struggle on offense, especially with Blake Griffin missing his first 4 attempts. But all of a sudden Eric Gordon got hot and hit 3 of 4 from 3Point land in the 1Q. But the Suns would rally back and take the lead and if not for a buzzer beater jumpshot by Nick Young they would of had a 1 point lead going into the 2Q. In the 2Q both teams kept exchanging baskets without either breaking away, until the Clippers lead by Baron Davis' passing went on an 18-4 run to take a 14 point lead going into halftime. In the 3Q, the Clippers missed all 6 of their 3Point attempts after being hot in the first half, but the Suns starter making their baskets. They would eventually take the lead late in the 3Q thanks to 20 points by Steve Nash. In the 4Q the Clippers were still struggling, but after going down by 10 points, they were able to keep the game close. With about 3 minutes left the Suns went on a run to push the lead back to 10 points. Then Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon gave the Clippers a run of their own to get within 2 point. With 30 seconds left, Baron Davis found Eric Gordon in the corner for a 3Pointer for the lead and he made it, only the 3rd 3Pointer for the Clippers in the half. With 20 seconds left, Steve Nash was trying to run the clock down to set up a game winning shot, but Baron Davis, who had 5 fouls reached in to poke the ball away. The two chased after the ball, but Baron picked it up and had a clear path to the basket for a slam dunk and to put the Clippers up by 3. Steve Nash had a chance to tie the game with 8 seconds left, but DeAndre Jordan came in and swatted the ball into the 3rd row. With only 5 seconds left, Antonie Walker had his 3Point attempt bounce off the rim and the Clippers escape Game 3 with a commanding 3-0 lead.
THE STAT: Tale of two halves: Clippers made 7 3Pointers in the first half and the Suns 3, in the second half the Clippers made only 3 and the Suns made 7
QUOTABLE: Baron Davis, "Its the playoffs, you forget you have 5 fouls and just go for the steal. For better or for worse. Good thing in this case it was for the better."
HOT: The Phoenix Suns scored 40 points in the 3Q to get back into the game
NOT: Aaron Brooks scored only 4 points on 1-6 shooting and did not attempt a single 3Pointer
GOOD MOVE: With the Clippers down 2, Eric Gordon hits a 3 pointer with only 20 seconds left, Steve Nash then holds the ball letting time tick away for a last second game winner, but Baron Davis tips the ball and steals it away for a break away slam dunk to give the Clippers a 3 point lead that would lead to a win
BAD MOVE: In the 4Q both teams found themselves intercepting passes between leading to about a minute of back and forth at the half court line before the Clippers were finally able to stabilize a play with the ball
