Today, I was just doing some tests as far as simulating seasons, and I was nooooot pleased with how the rookies ratings progressed. Many people told me to make player ratings a lot lower, and I understand why, but the ratings improve very very slow. Some of the rookies had A for pkg, and over a six year span, their ratings only imrpoved from 55 to 58. I also experimented and made Iverson, Kobe, Garnett, and Jermaine O'Neal rookies...I also made each of them eight years younger. I made Kobe a 72, Garnett about 74, O'Neal about 63, and Iverson like 70 or so. Kobe got to about 83 in five years with a A PKG...Garnett got to a 80 with a A in five years, O'Neal got to a 64 in five years with an A PKG, and Iverson mysteriously got worst by a few points. So I was not pleased with this, because some players who are a 62 may only end up a 68 or 72 in their prime. Also, I made Lebrons PKG an A, and he went from 69-76 in five years...Melo went from a 63 to a 77 in five years with an A PKG. So I am not gettin how it's supposed to work.

Maybe there is a need for them (rookies) to undergo training to improve their ratings? Also, maybe they went or played for a team that they were seldom used so their ratings didn't improved alot? :?

Does training really help? I always skip it because when I do it, it always makes their ratings lower. Kobe was a started so he was always used. Garnett, Melo, Lebron, and Jermaine started. I think Iverson got pushed to the bench. But true, most of the rookies were either on the bench or free agents, I didn't really mean to have them in the season, I was testing the veterans and current players for an experiment related to Andrew's 95-96 patch.

for one, maybe i'm being stupid, but what's a pkg?

either way, keep in mind lots and lots of rookies don't pan out. let's look at the 2000 draft...
KMart - very good, not superstar though
Swift - finally getting it, took him a long time to develop
Miles - bust until this season in POR where he fit in great...role player his entire career (Will be i mean)
Fizer - buried on the BULLS' bench...
Miller - 2nd option...good player
DeMarr Johnson - auto accidents, doing better
Mihm - bust, lacks intensity, consistency
Crawford - flashes of stardom, and flashes of sucking...
PRzybilla - bust
Dooling - bust so far
Moiso - bust, role player (actually IMO he played very well in his starts for the raptors, but he didn't play much)
Thomas - role player
Alexander - injuries, is a ?
Cleaves - bust, role player
Collier - bust...

I'll stop here...it's just an example that rookies a) take a long time to develop (unless you're some wonder kid, like LBJ or 'Melo) and b) for every LBJ, there's a DeShawn Steveson...

PKG is a rating that improves a players ratings or worsens them year by year during your dynasty. So if somebody is a 65 as a rookie, An A will make them get a lot better in the future, a B will get them better but not that good, a C is less than that, D is probabbly average, E is a little bit less than average, etc etc.

So with Live, they usually have somewhat accurate predictions for each player and their development for the years, although some players should have been predicted better through their PKG, such as Lebron, who only has a E. Thing is, yeah in real life you can't predict who is gonna do what, but being that this is a video game and you can control it, it should work better than it does since most people play the game for the dynasty mode.

I think training helps alot, you just need to download a patch to fix the bugs. Ex: I'm playing the NYK in my dynasty, Penny's rating at the start of the season was 65 overall, after training him like every after 10games (I played 56games for the season) he was about 70 overall next season. :)

Postby HonorGlow on Sat Apr 24, 2004 5:06 am

R-Tistic, if you can send the file to my email address at emocore@polarcomm.com I'd appreciate to. I'm surmising this doesn't include cyberfaces though(of course I hope I'm wrong!)...does anybody have any cyber faces of the potential draftees?

here's to anything to prevent another computer-generated draft full of unrealistic looking faces and players!

You guys are serious?

Postby GrnDynsty on Fri Apr 30, 2004 2:04 pm

Do the users here REALLY go by EA's Live ratings system? You guys are aware that they know nothing about basketball, right? So what if LeBron was rated a 69 overall by EA, they were WRONG! Therefore, DON'T rate future players based off of THOSE overall ratings (using Carmelo and LeBron as the incoming rookie Platinum and Gold standard). I have more than 500 CAP's and Edits for Live 2004 and I know that if you truly want to enjoy it you have to play it on a console system as opposed to a PC. You give up all the options AND all the headaches. All you have to do is reorder, create, and edit players. I've seen this guy rate incoming players in the 50's....and he still plays the game without tearing his hair out? Have you ever played a game of Live with just players rated in the 50's? I'm sure you weren't enjoying your experience. I rated Ha Seung Jin a 62 overall (Jin Seung Ha when inputing him) and he plays like a raw center. Having a player like Ben Gordon on your game and he isn't AT LEAST in the low 70's is sick! I have CAP's for Sebastian Telfair, Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Al Jefferson, Emeka Okafor, Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Luke Jackson, Jameer Nelson, Delonte West, Dorell Wright, Pavel Podkolzine, Ivan Chiriaev, Yi Jianlian, Mo Ke, etc. I've SEEN these guys play. If I have to guess I DON'T MAKE THEM!!! I have footage and pictures of all of these guys I make. I've been making CAP's since Live 96 and this will be my tenth live I've made CAP's for. My site is grndynsty.proboards7.com/index.cgi. One.

P.S. WeedManus And 1 Streetball Patch uses MY CAP's and he NEVER CREDITED ME. I'll find out what's up soon. One.
