Good win, good to see the Hornets lose Belinelli, he's good in the game. Definitely a perfect example of Spurs-basketball.

CP3's turnovers prove costly; Spurs take 3-1 lead on New Orleans but lose Duncan to injury
Preview | Recap | Game Info | Full Play-by-Play | Boxscores (SAS :: NOH)

NEW ORLEANS, April 27 -- Tiago Splitter is learning to step up when Tim Duncan is out. Splitter scored 19 points and Corey Maggette once again showed why he is one the league's best dunkers, finishing with 14 points, as the Spurs took a 3-1 lead in their Western Conference first-round series against the New Orleans Hornets, with a 124-119 victory. After a collision with Emeka Okafor in the first minute of the fourth quarter, Duncan fell awkwardly and suffered a separated shoulder, which will keep him out for the rest of the series. “It was obvious that we needed to step up after Tim left the court,” said Splitter, after playing 28 minutes, 8-of-9 from the field, and helping pick up the offensive loss of Duncan. “Some guys needed to step up and some guys needed to log more minutes. We made out pretty well, if you ask me.” Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker scored 15 points apiece and rookie James Anderson added 13 for the Spurs, who shot 54 percent on the night and hit seven of eight free throws in the final two minutes of the game to assure the victory.

The Hornets were up by as many as eight in the entire game; San Antonio enjoyed a 15-point lead in the third quarter thanks to Ginobili and Splitter. The Hornets came close to four points, but Splitter's putback of a miss by Ginobili gave the Spurs a 113-107 lead that New Orleans couldn't overcome. “They hit a big play with the rebound that Splitter got,” said Trevor Ariza, who once again led New Orleans with 27 points. “They made a good play rebounding the ball. It gave them a momentum. At one point, I thought we had them, but that changed everything around, and they got some big shots falling.” The Hornets had a 12-4 lead to start the game, but San Antonio made some fixes and was clinging to a 61-55 lead at halftime, before scoring 8 of the third quarter's first 10 points. Ginobili had six points and Maggette added a dunk, for an 69-57 cushion and never be behind again. “It wasn't the prettiest of contests,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “We battled courageously and fought hard. We finally got some stops at the end to clinch the win, when it seemed as if Paul was going to score every time.” San Antonio essentially won the game from the line, where they made 20 of their final 22 attempts to cap a 29-of-33 performance from the charity stripe, and last but not least, riding their bench production: 58 points.

Chris Paul had a series-high 22 points, 14 in the last period, to go with 11 assists, but had 7 of his team's 12 turnovers. Antawn Jamison finished with a season-low 12 and Okafor added 12 of his own, before fouling out with 34.5 seconds left. David West, who posted 11 points, also fouled out with 18.1 seconds left. New Orleans played without guard Marco Belinelli, who sat out with a broken wrist. The Hornets also shot well, finishing the game at 55 percent, including Ariza's 9-of-16, Okafor's 6-of-10 and Jerryd Bayless' 4-of-6; Ariza made all four of his shots from 3-point range. The loss of Okafor and West, along with some desperate shots by the Hornets in the last moments of the game, allowed San Antonio to outrebound them, 39-28. “Obviously, we got beat up on the boards,” said Hornets coach Monty Williams said. The shooting touch for both squads extended to 3-point territory, as they shot a combined 15-of-27 from 3-point range (55 percent). San Antonio hosts Game 5 this Friday, April 29; the Spurs will look to finish the series as soon as possible. “We will play shorthanded, so we need to be concentrated, at 110 percent to close this,” said Ginobili.

I think 2-2 and then you will win 4-2. ;)

Thanks man... I was able to steal both games at their homecourt, but now Duncan is out, so I think they will win this game and then with a huge effort I'll close it 4-2.

I know. I stopped Jamison this time, but Ariza kills me every time, he's their go-to guy.

I stole both away games, but I am worried now, with TD out.

Yeah, I'm really worried that Duncan's out. Fact -- Duncan played in 73 of 82 games and I found a way to be 9-0 in those nine games. Still, you know, playoffs, different animal, and all that. :|

River Walk Chronicles ♦ Spurs Beat

Postby kibaxx7 on Sat Apr 30, 2011 10:50 am

Mr. Fundamental out, Tiago to start in Game 5
    nba.com/spurs/beat | April 28th, 2011

SAN ANTONIO -- With Tim Duncan ruled out because of a separated shoulder, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will gamble on Tiago Splitter being able to steer the team to the Western Conference Semifinals. Popovich said the Brazilian showed he is capable of taking the responsability, after Duncan was ruled out for at least 2 weeks with this injury, product of a collision with New Orleans' Emeka Okafor in the first minutes of the fourth quarter of San Antonio's Game 4 win, 124-119. Duncan didn't return and both Splitter and Drew Gooden played extended minutes. “You could tell right away. Even Manu (Ginobili) said he kind of heard it [pop out],” said Gooden. “You feel bad because he's leading the team and you can tell he wants that ring.” The Spurs play Game 5 tomorrow, at the AT&T Center.

Pop picked the former Spanish League MVP ahead of Gooden for the starting lineup slot. “Tiago, along with Drew off the bench, give us a good opportunity to win this game and the series,” Popovich added. “I talked to Drew about it -- he understands. That's his role. We had a couple of conversations about it. That's a personal thing between he and I, and I'm going to leave it there.” With the Spurs enjoying a 3-1 lead, Popovich has little to lose by taking a gamble with Tiago (which, by the way, gave him flawless results in the regular season). But the truth is, he would like to close the series as soon as possible; the Hornets gave the Spurs some issues, specially in Game 2, where they tied the series 1-1 with a big array of 3-pointers.

But the bigman from Brazil, who could give the Spurs some extra options in both offense and defense, said he wasn't surprised by his coach's decision. “The way that you prepare as a professional athlete,” he said, “you have to be prepared when the coach calls your number. And that's exactly where I'm at.” The Spurs will miss Duncan for the rest of the series, before taking either the Dallas Mavericks or the Utah Jazz in the West Semis, that is if they win this series against New Orleans. If that's the case, looks like Duncan will sit out at least the first two games of the Semifinals. He flew with his teammates back to San Antonio and spent the morning at the hospital, still with his arm in a sling. In four games, Duncan is averaging 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and a scary 3.5 blocks per game.

Yep it was a bad game for them at the rebounds. With my bench scoring a lot, they didn't get many boards.

I'd say I'm preparing myself for Game 6 already, so if I win Game 5 I explode in happiness. :) The Mavs have a tough series against the Jazz, will post all the series later.

shadowgrin wrote:You guys lack faith in Splitter, Blair, Matt Boner, and Bad Porno. :shake:

I never lose faith in Splitter (gotta find a nickname for him), DeJuan and Maggs. But I haven't been playing Bonner for quite a time; I'm testing him in the Trade Finder.

Hopefully Tiago gives me another great production. Okafor appeared in Game 4; West struggled a little, but I think he can bounce back. They have both Belinelli and Aaron Gray out, so I guess it will be a nice contest. The problem will come in the Semis against the Mavs/Jazz.

I believe that you can win this one...
Even with TD out you have a nice chance against NOLA, even more if you concentrate on D,now that you have Tim out...
Splitter can perform nicely,he has the potential and of course is the best choice for the starting 5...
