LeBron in SLAM

Postby Waz on Sun Apr 11, 2004 5:04 pm

has ne1 read the latest issue of Slam in particular the LeBron article by Scoop Jackson...neway if u did u woulda noticed that this
It happened on a date no one can exactly remember. Some say December. It happened in practice. Before the Ricky Davis trade. It was one of those moments, where greatness exceeds itself and something mystical turns mythical. Only the chosen few can bear witness. For it is in that the life of a legend finds breath.
"The ball got away from me on a pass." This is from JR Bremer, Cavs backup point. Co-signer. "See, I was at halfcourt playing the point, and he was playing the wing, DMiles was on him and I knew DMiles could jump, so I just threw it up there..."
"I was in the stands doing some paperwork and I just happenedto look up..." says Eric Patton, the Cavs Director of Basketball Administration. "And I saw LeBron jump..."
"It was easily over the top of the backboard. Kevin Ollie was under him," Bremer continues. "And, and Bron just went up there and got it with one hand..."
"He was off-balancexand that's what scared me," Patton tells. "I had never seen anyone's body that high in the air before, not even Vince. and Ollie was under him, so I knew he was going to fall..."
"He caught it" Carlos Boozer confirms. "I don't know how, but he caught it..." And, "He wa sup so high, I didn't think he was going to land correctly," Pauls Silas admits. " The ball was almost behind him at the top of the square..."
"And i swear his torso had to be rim high, because he was literally lookimg down into the basket." Here Patton catches his breath. "And then...he didn't dunk it because he was too far away from the basket, but he, like , threw the ball through the hoop..."
"With one hand, he threw it through," Bremer says. "Whew. I'm telling you, it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen."
"I have never seen anything in my life like that." Patton ends. "I just got up and walked out of the gym."
Asked if he'd ever make that mistake again." Bremer unsarcastically says. " Yep. If I get a chance to."

So wat does every1 think????

I dunno, he's always pissed me off. I mean he's so full of his own self importance, and the way he writes is so pretentious it's beyond belief. As far as the Lebron thing is, that'd be kinda cool to see.. I once did it when i climbed a ladder

I have a feeling it is exagerated a little bit. I have seen lebron on the fast break and when he takes off he doesn't get that much height.

With the height just described then he should be pulling off way sicker dunks than he actually does. Give me a break!!

Isn't it amazing how players are always hitting their heads on the rim and flying over the backboard when it's someone else's anecdote...but in games on tape it never seems to happen? Ever?

And on a side note...I hate Scoop Jackson. I think Slam magazine is starting to realize that their fan base hates him also...as he's writing less and less with each issue (despite now doing the backpage.)

And. Did. Anyone. Read his. Ricky Davis article? Completely. Unreadable. Worst. Thing. I've ever. Read.

Some of Scoop's writing is good. I liked his "Kobe Bryant: Season On The Brink". I haven't read the Lebron article because I'm pretty much getting sick of anything about him.

What's amazing about that issue is that it's already Lebron's third cover. He had one in high school, one after he got drafted, and now another one.

That unreadble shit he called writing was stupid. Maybe doing that for a paragragh if he wanted to be "original," But I didn't even read the whole thing.

I'm pretty sure most people already knew he could get higher, VC hops is/was like 42 inches, and Lebron's I think is 44. Lebron is also taller and has a much longer reach/wingspan that Carter, it really does make sense doesn't it?

Ehm, I wasnt knocking VC...I was knocking his admirers:

With the height just described then he should be pulling off way sicker dunks than he actually does. Give me a break!!

Point being, they said he jumps higher than VC...OMG!!!! :o

I dont believe it but if its true then why aren't his dunks half as good as Vince's were in his rookie season if he can jump so high.

Maybe when Lebron jumps over a 7 2" guy like Vince once did in the middle of a game then maybe I'll believe it.

He swung under the hoop and hit his head on one of the backboard supports. An impressive dunk nevertheless. Manute Bol actually did hit the rim face first, when his teammates first encouraged him to dunk.

It sounds pretty cool, but I too think it's a little exaggerated.

I dont know if you saw it but earlier in the season, Fred Jones hit his head on the back board blocking a shot.
