Pippen calls it Quits

Pippen pact could hamper Bulls' free-agent effort

Scottie Pippen confirmed Thursday his playing days are done, but that wasn't the news of the day. Pippen, 38, told the Chicago Sun-Times on March 16 he didn't think he could play anymore after hinting at retirement all season.

The only question was what will happen with the $5 million owed Pippen for next season, and the answer likely will affect the Bulls' pursuit of free agents this summer.

Pippen was asked Thursday if he'll consider negotiating a buyout.

''A what?'' Pippen asked with a grin. ''I don't know the meaning of that word.

''I won't comment on that. I'm going to sit down and talk with [operations chief John] Paxson in the next day or so, and we'll make a decision as to what we're going to do.''

I know man, the guy is annoying me, make up your mind. First he said he will, then he said no he would come back, now he's saying he'll stay again.

Maybe by the end of the week he'll say he's decided to come back for one more year.

As I said before, if he can come back and play most of the season, and be effective, great. Otherwise, he should call it quits.

At least he's just talking about that stuff unlike his more famous friend who retired three times.

Pippen is extremely Annoying

Still, Pippen hasn't ruled out returning next season to the Bulls, with whom he signed a two-year contract last summer.

"There's always a chance," he said.

When asked about a timetable for making a decision, Pippen replied, "I'll know by the beginning of next season for sure and maybe before. I'm not quite sure yet."

I wanna strangle this guy, make up your mind are you leaving or not?

Pippen waves off season, not career

Scottie Pippen said he wouldn't travel to Indiana for the Bulls' season finale Wednesday. Thus, the future Hall of Famer could have attended his last game as a player Monday, albeit in street clothes.

"I'm done for the season, but I may not be waving goodbye," Pippen said.

Pippen finishes with averages of 5.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 23 games, all career lows.

It's hard to tell what Pippen will do, although his words suggest that accepting a buyout of his guaranteed second year is out of the question.

"I'll continue to work to get my knee better this summer," he said. "But I don't know what I'm going to do."

This is Pippen's 17th season and his first that won't end in a playoff berth.

"It's been a tough season," Pippen said. "We're all looking forward to it coming to an end."

why so frustrated? you seem quite fixed on reporting articles, even more so on pippen's possible retirement

pip has already stated that he and pax are supposed to have a meeting soon to discuss pip's future. perhaps you should wait for the article on that, hold off on all these other silly ones, and save yourself the anguish

my guess is that since pip knows pax did him a favor by giving him a guaranteed 2 year contract, he'll return the favor and accept a buyout, giving paxson a little more cap flexibility for this upcoming offseason.

i think it would be a major surprise if pip tried to comeback and play for another year

Pip's gotta be done, he couldn't put together more than three games in a row due to soreness and what not in the knee + whatever other area hurt.
Another year older, and I don't think he's going to be much healthier. As valuable as he could still be, a guy who could play 80 games would probably be nicer.

well the guy had a great career.....i think the best SF more much/all of the 90's, he put up numbers across the board, played excellent D, played the point, shit he could do everything

G Hill reminds me of him too, they both played some point, put digits across the board, but Pip was a better defender and more of an outside player....Hill only developed a 3 later in his career
